Australia [284 & 487/7d] beat England [374 & 146] by 251 runs in the 1st Ashes Test, lead series 1-0

Oh come on, India are the biggest HTBs ever!

If your team wins at home then whats the down side to that, remember only losers call winners bullies. Try to be a bigger HTB than every one.

Steve Smith is truly a different class than the other 21 batsmen playing here. Guy is playing Test after like 16 months, as if this is his 2nd innings in 3rd Test of that SAF tour.

He played ODI though. He was not out of cricket.

Siddle doing a good job too. Deserves credit for the application he's showing. Maybe some of the other Australians could learn a lesson from him too

I thought Aussies would play like this.

Aussies don't have what it takes to win in England (be it ODI or Test). These pitches and conditions are not suitable for them.

A solid, old fashioned innings from Smith here and just the type of application England require but it will not be enough because at some stage, he needs to look to score slightly quicker.

Just want to mention this innings from Smith again.

He has just missed a ball and berated himself...a slight blip in concentration. I once heard Cook speak about concentrating during a long innings and he mentioned how every single ball is starting from scrap, the toll it takes on the body and mind and the constant adjustment that goes with judging every ball on its merit. Smith has just done that for 149 deliveries. Ball after ball.

That is sapping for the soul and he really needs someone to play at the other end.

England can give Root or Denly 2-3 overs to see if they can get Siddle out.

These part-timers can sometimes struck out of nowhere.

i feel aus have made 40 runs too many already

think aus are ahead. feel cummins and pattinson will wreak havoc

Current Partnership - 71 runs, 17.4 overs, RR: 4.01 (Peter Siddle 36, Steven Smith 34).

Siddle is actually scoring more than Smith.

If aus 2nd inning score is matched with eng first innings, i cant see eng scoring 200 in last innings..

What happened to ANderson? INjury? Bowlers look worn out now. Great knock by SIddle. Who knows this could be a winning total as well. Without Anderson England will struggle.

Why are they playing two wicket keepers? Also what happened to Burns who scored 100 against SL.

Yeah he was coming off a calf injury and it didn't feel too comfortable so he's had scans on it and is taking it easy.

Hopefully England can bat through all of tomorrow and a bit more to give him as much time as possible to rest and get better.

There is no Starc either. Not sure about Pattinson's form. Siddle is not exactly a threatening bowler.

Smith once again showing why he is the best Test batsman of this decade.

Anyone know whats the difference if Anderson's injury is related to same one he recovered from before test match or a new one? commentators briefly mentioned it, but I didn't quite catch it. not sure if it means no sub fielder? anyone who knows the rule or any recent change on this rule can explain?

smith has dug aus out of a hole throughout the whole world cup.
he seems to love pressure situations.

Almost single handed SS has brought Aussies in this Test. I actually support Poms in Ashes exactly for this reason - no matter what, somehow Aussies often proves that Poms are underdog and my neutral support is for the weaker side :( But, I do believe Poms will win this Test and Series as well. Today, Smith fought really hard and batted brilliantly, but had Jimmy been there, don't see Aussies scoring 150.

The pride these Aussies take the field with is just amazing. Right down to the tail, they will fight tooth and nail just to squeeze every run out.

have to feel for eng. losing anderson is detrimental. aus could have been 150 all out if anderson was not injured.

smith's innings is a bigslap to the booing crowd

This is why you got to love Test Cricket, there are so many twist and turns, it's like watching a great movie. One team may be down but there have time and opportunity to come back and they players have chance to become hero. Test will always remain the pinnacle of the game.

pitch seems to have flattened

however, if conditiosn are similar to earlier today, then aus will easily win this match

crazy to think aus can possibly make 300 after being 121/8

dont know if any other batsmen other than smith is capable of reviving a score like this

Current Partnership - 57 runs, 10.1 overs, RR: 5.6 (Steven Smith 46, Nathan Lyon 8).

273/9.

Aussies are now in a good position. England just couldn't remove the tail quickly.

Got to love this, when Smith has this effect, (booing and abusing) you know its not because they are confident of winning.

If mints were illegal to suck on before shining the ball why didn't the ICC ban Steve Smith when he admitted his team did this or Virat Kohli when footage of him doing so emerged?

What has England winning the WC by the rules got to do with this?

England have had as many umpiring decisions go against them this game as Australia have.

More nonsense as usual from Tino.

Lol the game is far from over.

Hazelwood should have played. Australia seem to have been a little cautious with their bowling selection. Hope Pattinson can fire.

Jason Roy is showing positive intent. If he stays for 30-40 overs, it can be game over for Australia.
