Big day ahead for Pakistan as they look to remove the possibility of an Australian win out of the equation, with Imam looking for a possible double hundred as well.

Another bright & sunny day is expected with no chance of rain. The Peshawar blast had destroyed most of the excitement which I had for this test series. But life must go on.

Too slow. Azhar is a real buzz-killer. I went to sleep after Abdullah Shafique got out and woke up at 6 am. Took a guess, with a few overs left, that it would be 234-4. It was actually 235-1. Pathetic, test cricket is not supposed to be like this, who established this formula? It should be at least 300 or even 350 for a full day's play. Isn't it true that Azhar, in the last few years, has either cost Pakistan games because of slow batting in the first innings, or has almost cost them wins? Didn't it happen in Bangladesh recently, if I remember correctly? With younger players in the wings like Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel (whom they seem to have put on the Fawad Alam path), there is no reason, except sentimental, for Azhar to be there. Just way too slow, it hurts test cricket.

Life must go on if 56 people who died in Peshawar don't affect the play then why should the tragic death of Warne should. The match must go on.

You are right but I don't think Australia won't be in any frame of mind to compete today considering the loss.

I also remember Pakistan and New Zealand took a day off the 3rd test after Phil Hughes tragic death in 2014

Why would they stop a match because Warnie died?

Great cricketer, sad for his family.

But it's not a major world event.

Warne retired several years before any of these guys began playing internationals. I don't think they'll be too badly affected.

In modern days schedules are tight , Game should not be stopped with the death of Warne.

Pakistan need to accelerate here , yesterday they played very slow. It would have been better if they were 320 / 4

Pat Cummins reflecting on how the squad is dealing with the Rod Marsh and Shane Warne news and the upcoming day's play:

Haris Rauf has now rejoined the squad after end of his isolation and testing negative for COVID-19, whilst Faheem Ashraf and Hasan Ali have also joined the squad after end of their three-day isolation

Watched a few interviews of Cummins today after Warne's passing and for some reason get the impression Cummins doesn't care one bit which is sad and shocking at the same time because Warne had a regular and consistent presence in Australian Cricket as late as the past week and month.

If you were to put any other current Aussie player in his position I expect them to at least show some emotion and look down but this guy is just smiling and stuff, doesn't come across as guy that's affected at all.

Malcolm Marshall and Warne
Two greatest bowlers of all time left us a bit too early. In case of Marshall he was only 42.

Great news..

Imam strike rate is too low , its not going to win you games. He has not improved his strike rate , his range of shots he needs to improve

Spot on. Azhar is killing it for Pakistan. We scored 245 yesterday on a belter. We should have scored at minimum 300. Players like Azhar are way past their prime and this defensive approach will get us nowhere. It has been a pathetic test match to watch so far

Having Azhar Ali and Imam at 2 and 3 will kill games for Pakistan. Both lack initiative.

At this rate we’ll reach 500 by lunch on day 3 poor approach when your on top you put pressure on the opposition.

India despite losing more wickets still kept run rate high , Pakistan on the other hand playing negative cricket through out.

India have Pant Pakistan refuse to play attacking batsmen Umar and Haider are attacking test batsmen but only batsmen with strike rates below 50 are considered for selection.

Plenty of pace and uneven bounce today. Should get exciting with some wickets falling. Pakistan should definitely up the scoring rate, plenty of wickets to come. Target 500 and get Aussies in for good 10-15 overs before the end of play today.

Pakistan selectors have a serious problem, I do not understand what they see in a Bowler turned blocker Azhar Ali. He kills all momentum, mediocre in his prime , painful when past prime

Look at the vast differences in the bowling attacks.

India even after losing half the side of their first-choice players beat Australia in Australia , How many other teams have managed to do that with their first choice players ?

Pitch is starting to act funny. This defensive approach will lead to a collapse. I would have taken 320/4 yesterday, rather 245/1

If Australia bat through day 3 then
the draw is the most likely outcome which is a good result for them as they’ll take confidence and build on their experience here for the remaining two tests.

Rain is also likely to affect the game

Imam plays a shot and then goes into a shell. Azhar ali is just blocking everything. Aussies are bowling well here

We will probably reach 450/3 today and continue batting until lunch tomorrow. Most likely a draw.

This stadium is tiny. I think they host here so that that they can stay in Islamabad. It really needs its own stadium asap, 50k seater.

It would be much better to be 335/4 than 245/1 at the end of the day's play. What is this, winning games by torturing the opposition and spectators? Azhar had a period of brilliance under Mickey Arthur when he was playing ODIs and upped his game and also when he was opening in tests, but since dropping down to no. 3 he's been awful. What is the strategy, anyway? Don't these guys discuss it, or is there so much respect for a senior player that they can play selfishly? A first-innings score of 450 is more than enough, or even 400. Australia is batting last, and there could be weather issues. So get it on, because you want to declare by tea on the second day anyway. There is so much batting to come, Rizwan, Fawad, Babar, give them enough time instead of rushing them because you were too slow and selfish. I hope Australia make them crumble with all this defensiveness, because this is awful to watch.

When wickets fall, they will fall like a house of cards, we've seen that a million times. It's only start of day two, Aus won't be able to handle spin against a big total. Run-rate irrelevant at the moment.

Not gaining anything by tuck tucking away. Rather Accelerate and provide some entertainment for the fans.

Watch PSL highlights if you want entertainment. This is a test match, serious stuff for serious people. Entertainment comes much later, on day 4/5.

Like i said before this test, Azhar will suck the life out of the inns anytime he bats this pathetic stuff from pakistan.

Since 70 over pakistan were 200-1

next 10 overs - 30 runs
next 10 overs - 15 runs
next 10 overs - 19 runs

thats shamefully slow on a ideal batting surface, 1 wicket down.

Add two quick wickets to this score and all this needless blocking will look very stupid indeed, cant even rotate strike for singles.

This isn't gonna get the hordes in. You have to show intent!. Babar duck and they'll meander to 400

Crazy how Smith was once a proper leggie، wouldn't even bowl much in such conditions that might actually support him۔

Really wish we had a legspinner. There's a bit of nice rough already.

At this current snails pace it will take pakistan till close of play to get around 450. Pathetic stuff, pitch is at its best for batting now.

Hopefully we can get enough to put the Aussies in last hour of the day. Need the momentum to score runs at a quicker rate.

This is too slow

But it’s Pakistan.they will never change

Azhar Ali 86 from 216 balls !

Imam 142 from 322 balls ..

Very poor mentality. This is a drawing mentality not a winning one.

There is No explanation for this pathetic slow batting, considering match situation, pitch and fact that they have only lost one wicket, and the fact that their is good Chance of losing atleast half a day cricket due weather, makes it look even worse, it's like helping Oz cause on purpose, with this mindset we will never be consistently a top team. This is masterclass in purposeless and selfish batting. And I am no 12 year old LOI fan.

Can anyone help me get tickets for Day 3? They’re all sold out online. Major

Both are playing for personal milestones

Thats been obvious for most of the inns since tea yesterday, both players more interested in saving place in team then trying to get into a strong match winning position quickly.

PP: let's slog our way to 350 and lose the match olby day 4 in the name of entertainment, because we don't have the patience for a test match.

37 runs in 18 overs today, when starting day 245/1

You can't just escape in the name of Oh this is how test cricket is meant to play, there are situations when such a defensive batting is justified or even required but no justification for this in current scenario other than fact that both playing for personal milestones and their cementing their pace in side. And for sake of Pak cricket and fans we win despite this pathetic mentality otherwise this approach does not deserve a win.

Starc is a legend. Australians have toiled long and hard and they haven’t looked like they’ve given up. They will soon reap the rewards of their hard work.

Slog?

Pakistans 1st 100 runs came up in 30 overs yesterday (3 RPO)

pakistan were 200/1 after 70 overs (just below 3 RPO

no one is asking to slog but scoring at around 2 rpo on a good batting surface, 1 wicket down with 2 set batsmen is pathetic.

IF this test ends a draw in the end then this whole pathetic snail batting period can be blamed.
