What's new

Australia "A" vs Pakistan "A" | 2nd Test | Townsville | 03-06/07/2009

Damn!!! We are 5 down for 49
It's almost end of the day so play should stop soon but we have lost too many wickets, it's really tough for Akmal, Sarfarz to save us from disastrous total.

Thats was not good time to bat,for jokers like khalid latif.
Heck he is a tennis ball player

Wow I thought 230 was a pretty poor score but it looks pretty good now.

Bollinger trying to prove me wrong about his class by demolishing the Pak A top order with 4/33.

Mystifying that Talha was left out but that is Pakistan for you.

From the stats it seems Azeem Gumman is a special talent considering his age (17)and the average he is maintaining ,, around 51.
I think he will sooner get a call from national selectors.

hopefully.

Abdul Qadir was the one pushing Azeem, Azhar and Shehryar and looks like now he is out of the picture the 'tour management' playing their corrupt little games by choosing their favourites.

e.g.

"Muhammad Aamer is the future of Pakistan's fast bowling"

"Azhar Ali, Kashif Siddique, Naeem-ud-din all can look forward to be grab the opening slots"

"Lot of middle order talent is available with the likes of Umar Amin, Fawad Alam, Bazid Khan, Azeem Ghuman, Ashraf Ali, Usman Arshad in the ranks"

"Besides Kamran Akmal & Sarfaraz Ahmed, other wicketkeepers available are Zulifqar Jan, Salman Ahmed, Zulqarnain haider and Gulraiz Sadaf"

"Have high hopes from Wahab Riaz"

Australia A v Pakistan A, Townsville, 1st day

Bollinger rattles Pakistan A

Text size: A | A Pakistan A 5 for 49 (Bollinger 4-33) trail Australia A 230 (Ferguson 60, Mohammad Hafeez 3-20) by 181 runs
Scorecard

As Australia's fast men battle for Test spots in England, Doug Bollinger reminded them of the pressure coming from outside the squad as he rattled through Pakistan A's top order in Townsville. Bollinger grabbed 4 for 33 during a six-over spell leading up to stumps on the first day as the visitors stumbled to 5 for 49.

Pakistan were relieved when stumps was called and they will begin the second day with Umar Akmal on 9 and Fahad Iqbal on 1. Bollinger, who was outbowled in the first unofficial Test by Clint McKay, is keen to show the selectors he is the best fast man outside the Ashes squad after he was part of the touring party in South Africa.

Runs were difficult to come by on the first day and Australia, having been sent in, struggled to 230. Callum Ferguson was the only man to post a half-century and his 60, along with a handy 48 from the allrounder Moises Henriques, helped the hosts avoid disaster as Pakistan's seamers ran through the line-up.

The part-time offspinner Mohammad Hafeez then chipped in for three lower-order wickets to boost Pakistan before their own batting problems arose. The first unofficial Test, at the same venue, ended in a draw.

Hopefully Umar Akmal can show some of his 1st test heroics in this game.

Yes... He's one of the finest bowler in Australia at this moment..

what on earth is he doing in townsville then?? why dont they have in england right now

Did well to bowl them out for under 250. Unfortunately when two of your top three are suspect (Latif and Hafeez) a top order collapse is much more likely, especially if the ball is doing a bit.

Disappointed with Umar Amin, that's 3 failures in a row now. He had a chance to really impress on this tour, pity he's not taking it.

Still a bit of batting to come and it's imperative to chip away as much as possible at that lead. Morning session may decide the game.

If umar akmal can atleast score a half centuary under these circumstances then he should be in the national squad immediatly coz it would mean he has something special in him to perform well under pressure situations..

Again the nepotism on full display that Pakistan A's two best batsmen Shahriyar Ghani (No. 2 IMO after Umar Akmal) and Azeem Ghumman (No. 3 IMO after Umar Akmal and Shahriyar Ghani) were left out. Really shocking to see this and nobody in media complaining about it.

I think Talha might be injured? Check the scorecard from 1st test 1st bowling innings, but maybe I am wrong but who knows =P

can someone here please tell me what time the pakistan match with sri lanka starts ....british time?

Another counterattack by an Akmal. Umar on 50 off 47. Iqbal holding up the other end with 6 off 20.

Pak A: 95/5

135 behind

Umar Akmal should 'retire out' and get on the first flight to Lanka. Looks like we're gonna need him more than Pakistan 'A'!

Umar really is all action eh? He can change a match in a session. Looks to be a real asset. Bring him in for Bhanja!

Speaking of all action, Sarfraz ain't no slouch either.

Speaking of Bhanjas, Bhanja Junior is doing a job here. Just give Umar support, don't get out; play your part in the partnership.

He's exactly like his brother , i think saving pak from disaster is a family business for them :akmal

Of course Umer Akmal is the real deal.

The youngsters that really promise me after watching RBS Cup were Umer Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and Nasir Jamshed. These guys have some phenominal talent if they are used properly. These guys are world apart from all the Pakistan domestic talent in the batting department. There was another guy..but he isn't young but looked quite good. He was a middle order batsmen playing against Younis Khan team.. in the second match.

Second consecutive century for Akmal at a run a ball. What a knock.

Pak A: 172-5

58 behind

95 runs in a session for Umer :akmal , bhanja mark II also justifying selection. :bhanja

165/5 at lunch.
45 runs behind.

Umar Akmal dominated this session. Let's hope he makes it a really big one.

Awesome recovery. Hafeez should hang his head in shame, being the most experienced batsman on tour and failing like this. Dont even get me started on that one dimensional Khalid latif.

You don't need to say anything , The LEG-Master is making a statement himself.

I don't think we should rush U Akmal into the team just yet, but he looks like an amazing prospect!

Bhanja jr got out but he gave excellent support to Akmal.

It's quite an amazing fightback by Pakistan A and particularly Akmal's inning is simply amazing.

6/229 now and Akmal going strong, has now hit 3 6's and 14 4's.

I expected a bit of fightback but this is much better than i expected.

umar out on 129, pakistan 1 run behind, well played umar

Over 50.2: Bollinger to Umar Akmal, no run, OUT, attempts to cut the ball through the offside and has edged the ball straight to Michael Klinger in the gully

Akmal is OUT though for 129, just one run short of target but that was an amazing inning.

Bollinger gets Akmal but not before his economy rate was destroyed by Akmal to more than 5 an over.

You have done your job well Umar but , You played a gem of an innings that we are all proud of :akmal but don't consider the Job done , You still have a 2nd innings

Sarfraz hits a FOUR and Pakistan takes lead

233/7

We can still take 50-80 runs lead as Sarfraz is still there and Rehman, Masood, Wahab can all bat a bit.

Umar Akmal U ROOOOOOOOOOCK!

This talent must not go in waste. Pakistan should seriously consider giving him a call for Test and ODIs!

333 ao

well done to umar akmal, fahad iqbal and sarfraz ahmed

brilliant fight back

umar akmal should have booked himself a place on next tour !

Hmm from 41/5 to 333 allout. Not a bad effort at all, in fact super effort.

the other thing worth mentioning is the strike ratio

Australia scored 230 off 73 overs

Pakistan scored 333 off 77 overs over 4 an over

should definately be a result in this match now

wow...akmal a century...great...i wish wahab was playing in sri lanka instead of rauf...

aussies have now scored 36 runs in 17 overs, pathetic batting by aussies here

Another century from akmal and another half century by sarfaraz... bhanja batted well too! great effort by the batsmen after early debacle!

Akmal ton puts Pakistan A back on top

Umar Akmal celebrates his century for Pakistan A in Townsville

A second hundred in consecutive matches to Umar Akmal has given Pakistan A the initiative on day two of final four-day match against Australia A at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.

Resuming the day on 5-47 and staring down the barrel of a first innings loss, Akmal’s ton and half-centuries to Fahad Iqbal and Sarfraz Ahmed took Pakistan to 333 and a lead of 102 over the hosts.

Akmal’s 129 from just 145 deliveries overshadowed Aussie quick Doug Bollinger’s 5-82, which included four wickets late yesterday.

It was Akmal’s day though, the right-hander plundered the Australian attack early on day two, in a knock that included 14 fours and three sixes, showing no concern to the dicey position the team started the day at.

He received great support from Ahmed (61), and Iqbal (52) who joined Akmal for a partnership of 161 for the sixth wicket.

Tasmanian Off-spinner Jason Krejza was the only other multiple wicket-taker for the home side, finishing with 2-76 from his 18.2 overs.

The hosts went in to bat about an hour after tea, with 21 overs to face in the day and were 0-44 at the close play, needing another 58 to pass the Pakistan score.

Ryan Broad was 22 not out, with Michael Klinger with him on an unbeaten 16. Play resumes at 10am tomorrow.

Akmal seems to be fast tracking himself towards a possible senior call up with performances like this!
