Australia beat West Indies by 9 wickets in the first Test

Lead of 83, Windies batsmen will have to play out of their skin to put a competitive total.

Hussey, Rogers now Voges, leave it to Australia to produce batsmen at 30+ who start producing match-winning innings from game 1. A testament to their ridiculously strong FC cricket.

Don't think England can confidently say that their lower-order is stronger than the Aussies. That means Australia are ahead in all departments.

Three Western Australians as well

You rippa Voges!

Well done.

Being in brilliant form since 2013.

voges has just 25 centuries in 160 fc games. that's a shockingly low century tally.

Like the rest of WA he was allowed to be too comfortable and not pushed earlier in his career.

He has a lot of centuries over the past few years when he was made to take more responsibility and Langer brought a more professional attitude to the Warriors

Aussies well on top now. Just shows how crucial it was to strike after the Starc dismissal. Those runs Samuels leaked in 4-5 overs have cost Windies the game. Poor captaincy from Ramdin after he'd done so well to get to that position.

Coming into this match this was his 'recent' first class record

And now a century today

Hopefully Voges can hang around for Hazlewood's century

Really made up for Voges scoring a hundred here, he will remember his debut for a long time to come.

Bowled :((

Would have loved to see him get a half-century, fully deserved it with the way he played.

Magnificent innings from Adam Voges and he got good support from the tail enders too.

Well I will just eat my words about Voges. Well done, this kid could be something.

35 year old super kid :D

out of curiosity why hasn't he been given a chance uptil now? its not like Aus didn't have a spot open.

secondly he has a pretty good ODI avg of 46 at a SR of 87 too. And he averaged 66 in his last 4 games too. Why was he dropped then in 2013? I didn't really follow him but I do remember him playing a few ODIs

He didn't deserve selection before Random Aussie was right about that.

Unfortunately for much of the last decade Western Australia had a culture of mediocrity and players were allowed to be pretty comfortable with their spots and not pushed.
So Voges stayed as one of the better players at domestic level but never good enough to make the jump up.

Players mastered the doing just enough to not get dropped and WA did just enough to not finish last.

Langer came in around 2013 and changed that culture a lot and unsurprisingly Voges, Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh and a whole lot of young players started making big improvements.

When Voges played ODIs he was always in as an injury replacement so never could secure a spot

What has happened to Haddin's test average? How did it get down to 33.7. Didn't it used to be 40+? Has he played on too long?

It was never really 40 odd and yes he has played on too long (on pure cricket terms) but he's been kept on for other reasons.

Haddin would be the first player to move on if he thought he was surplus to requirements.

Top knock by Voges. Hitting 130 not out when the next highest score in the match is 39 is not a bad effort. Well played! Wouldn't be at all surprised if Windies lose by an inning here.

Not just that - modern batting averages over-estimate each batsman by 10, so 33.7 equates to 23.7 in real terms.

funny because it's true, haddin averages a pretty poor 27 with the bat in the last 4 years but take the poms out and his average the last 4 years goes down to an abysmal 19.

Haddin has always performed better against England than anyone else.

damn our catching has been amazing this match, forget just the regulation ones every half chance has been taken.

Lyon is so consistent, 7 overs, 6 maidens, 1 run . Doesn't try too many variations, holds a line and bowls it till death.

Smith conceded 8 runs in the one over he bowled. Lyon conceded 8 runs in 9 overs. Why are there part time wrist spinners? Its hard enough to be a full time leggy as it is. Even they end up bowling long hops and full toss deliveries every now and then.

Bravo fails to contribute in this game like most of the other WI bats.

Decent effort by Warner too.

Can Samuels & dowrich do here what azhar and shafiq did against England?

Going past their first innings score with wickets in hand will give them confidence, next task is Australia's score....

Windies for once showing some spine, and mighty Oz the world champions are being shown their worth in the real format, can't even get out a debutant and a fixer, such an overhyped bowling unit. If windies somehow get 200 lead than it's all Over for kings of playing spin, Oz. Go windies!

Don't point fingers mate. Your lot gave a 10-fer to MARK FREAKIN' CRAIG!!! I can even forgive Marcus North and Nathan Hauritz but of all the people, Craig???

W.I best two batsmen out in the middle at moment and both will need to get big scores here if they are to try and set Aussies any sort of challenging total.

Typical W.I they seem to have the mental capcity to play test or ODI cricket.

True but some of the young players have shown good temperament. I was expecting better from Blackwood who scored a century and 80 last series.

Windies would be 150 ahead had it not been for poor captaincy from Ramdin yesterday and now he's fudged up with the bat as well.

Warner in t20 mode here with a four and a six in 1st over

Poor captaincy and poor bowling at tail has pretty much cost W.I a chance of being competative in this match, the 1st inns lead they gifted away cost them the match.

West Indies didn't bowl particularly bad against the Australian tail enders. They just batted very well with Voges.

Windies got back to back wickets of Johnson and Starc around 178. Bishoo injured his finger and had to leave the field for 5-6 overs. Instead of bringing two pacers from both sides, Ramdin brought on Samuels who leaked around 30 runs and released all the pressure. That's where they lost the game.

Glad our bowlers stuck well to the task all day and the catching all match was as good as it gets but but jeez the windies are soft, game should have gone well into day 4 from the spot they were in at tea.

150-175 chase on this deck could have been a classic.

Not really, this was a good fightback, they're just inexperienced.
It was a good fightback till Dowrich and Samuels were there. After that, it was the customary laying down of the arms.

Ironically, the inexperienced Dowrich was the better performer. Others like Bravo, Brathwaite and Ramdin who have been around for a while just didn't have the stomach for a fight.

Poor performance from the Windies overall as expected. Ambrose and Simmons will be fuming.
