Ugh, wanted to see India chase. Been too long since we saw a Kohli/Dhoni masterclass in that regard.

Not bad to lose the toss. India won all their matches in MCG by batting first.

This is an acid test for Indian batting myths. Today, in a D/N series winner, under bright sunshine, Aussie Captain has thrown the challenge - bat first today, with that extra pressure of do or die match, if you are good enough, post again 300+, ..............................

I might be wrong, but, if IND posts 300+ again, AUS is not going to chase that down this time, though I am not sure if IND'll post 300+

I quite don't understand what you mean by batting myths. Batting has always been our stronger suit.

These Indian fans in the stadium are so cringeworthy. Losing every games and still shouting "Jeetega bhai jeetega, India jeetega". Waving placards as "King Kohli", some woman even carrying a banner "Marry me Virat".

Someone should show them the series result till now. When will we desis learn manners yaar.

Just shut up and watch the game. And stop embarrasing fellow Indians globally. Pathetic

I've always hated those chants.

Lol stop getting embarrassed then, why do you have such an inferiority complex? Why are you embarrassed by the behaviour of others, have some self esteem, they can behave whatever way they like, results don't matter, passion does

Me too. NRI crowds are worse than Indian crowds in India. Indians who lives overseas try to overdo the patriotic bit and make joke of themselves. I mean its fine to do all hallaballa if your team is winning. But you getting thrashed all games..just shut up and watch it calmly. I am sure Aussies laughing their heart out secretly. :))

I analyze batting a bit deeper than

runs cored / (innings played - innings not out).

IND plays most of their ODI matches on absolute belters, be at home or away (most where, why I can explain, but let's not go there - you can simply run a stat-guru quarry & check average match scores involving IND), therefore statistics 'll always look great (in fact matches involving IND often is a statisticians dream).

I see batsmen, when chips are down or something is on stake.

In almost every country pitches are flat in ODIs. So by that measure every batsman's statistics are inflated right now.

All the ODIs these days are on belters. Anyway, there is a reason why opposition teams lay out flat wickets for Indians. Indians have the capability to bat reasonably well on any surface. However, their bowlers who are pretty average usually become cobras on green pitches or turning wickets. ALso, the quality of batsmanship around the world has gone down. Aussies crumbled to 60 All out and 130 all out when the pitches had a tinge of green and it's to their own advantage to lay out belters.

India looking to keep wickets in hand for late attack here.
Even if India scores 350 (which they wont) India will loose. Aussies can chase any target, more so in a huge stadium like G where 3s are always availble and fielders can easily get tired.

Lets see if King Kohli can save us though :najam

AUS should have batted 1st today. However, I think Smith's decision was due to the absence of Ashwin. Unless injured, it's insane to drop him at MCG.

Probably 275 would have been interesting, but absence of Ash probably gives 35 runs handicap to Aussies. I didn't understand India's game strategy today - what's the point of picking 4 seemers & dropping Ash? That 3+2+1 (Kohli) wasn't a bad tactics; only that Aussies are too good. Fortunately Smith has put IND in today - otherwise IND would have chased with a lineup that has Jadeja at 6 & Ishant coming at 8, while I am not sure about the new guy - must be tremendous batsmen, otherwise you don't drop world's No. 1 spinner for an all-rounder with 11 wickets in 47 List A matches.

Both of you are correct, however, I watch cricket from late 80s.....................

Dhawan lives in Melbourne, ( I think ), and looks like he is playing for Australia !!!!!!

It is a change made by media pressure.

I also am surprised Ashwin not played , probably rested :)

This one is a more superior knock than the previous two 50s from kohli..

Duller than Sri Lankan team? I don't think that is possible

dont be so offended over the smallest thing. yes, it has been duller because sl will lose the match in 10 overs while this goes on all day and the result is never in doubt.

If you say Indian batsmen struggle against lateral movement and genuine bounce, that is true (which is true for most Asian batsmen as well).

But if you say that they can only play on flat tracks and there is a concerted effort by the BCCI to strong arm other boards to produce flat tracks for inflating the averages if their batsmen, then I'm afraid you are going down the conspiracy route that a few Pakistani fans like to subscribe to.

I can see the view that India playing 5 days gives profit for all boards and the economic pov, but I've seen India get their fair share of spicy pitches too and I'm sure the likes of Gavaskar, Jimmy Amarnath, Sachin, Dravid, etc. have their fair share of knocks under difficult situations too.

What a pathetic innings by Dhawan. His SR should've been 85-90 at least. Looked like he was trying to get out.

Onus on these two now and I'm not sure they can deliver. I hope they do and India win this though but it seems like we're headed for a three-peat!

this series has been unbelievably dull

Ohh don't worry. NZ is touring India this year and you will see Guptill's break dance against Ashwin on a raging turner. It's only going to be entertaining here on.

We're going to end up below par yet again.

Third time unlucky.
