The best chance for Pakistan is Aus batting too long and Pakistan just bats for time.

Aussies will bat 70-75 overs i recon and will get 270+ - meaning 400 lead and 100+ overs to get 10 wickets.

First job is to be economical and not allowing Australia score runs freely. Aussies will not declare until and unless lead is 375+.

Aus will not get easy runs in this wicket. If we play it right, they might collapse in a similar manner.

And should that fail, if Babar the captain knows anything it's bowling negative trash. So it would be hard.

Aus will need to score @ 3.6 which I think is too much.

If they score @ 3 then the lead will be 360 with 100 overs to go and Pak needing to score @ 3.6, gettable but very risky.

Scoring runs on this pitch has not been easy. But you are right, we don't have any quality bowler to make it hard for them.

Pakistan should restrict Australia to 150 runs and back themselves to chase 285-290 runs. As they are playing in home.Should play with positive mindset with 2.8 runs per over

A team who just lost 6 wickets for 20 runs i am afraid not....such a long tail!

I actually thought the tail would wag on that wicket but got blown away.

If Aus bats for 75 overs then I will be extremely surprised if the run rate is 3. I will back Aus to score faster. Yes, it may not be easy, but Aus tries to win each game and scoring faster will allow Aus to win.

Fall of Pakistan wickets

Pakistan threw it away. They were looking good for a massive lead and even winning the game.

They probably can't win the game now. It should be a draw.

Pakistan after putting up a strong batting performance in the first two sessions lost momentum in the final session, as they went from 227/3 to 268/10 in the final session of Day 3. Australian skipper Cummins with his brilliant fifer helped Australia take a crucial 123 runs lead in the first innings.

Resuming day three on 90 for 1, Pakistan batters Azhar Ali and Abdullah Shafique continued to make the Australian bowlers toil and took their time in the opening session. The Australian pacers, unlike Naseem Shah on day two, were unable to find reverse swing in the opening session. Green, who opened the bowling at the start alongside Cummins, was immediately attacked by Azhar Ali, as he welcomed him with a flurry of boundaries.

Starc, who had struggled to find his rhythm on Day 2, came late into the attack and was successful in troubling Shafique. Coming around the wicket, Starc bowled several excellent deliveries outside off stump but failed to break through.

Just before lunch, leg spinner managed Mitchell Swepson extracted turn off the surface and was successful in troubling the batters but didn't have any wickets to show for it. Pakistan went unscathed into lunch at 159 for 1, with Shafique (75*) and Azhar (63*) standing strong with their 139-run partnership.

After lunch, Nathan Lyon provided the much-needed breakthrough for Australia. Lyon had been bowling some accurate length and his disciplined bowling finally paid off when he got a faint edge of Shafique's bat on 81, thus ending the 150-run partnership.

Despite coming off a match-saving 196 in the second Test, Babar Azam began nervously against Nathan Lyon. Azhar at the other end, was setting himself up a century at his home ground. But Pat Cummins shattered the dream homecoming by dismissing him on 78 with a brilliant return catch.

Although Australia did not have complete control of the game throughout the day, they picked wickets when the game seemed to be slipping away from them and were able to put the fight back in the series-deciding Test.

Babar and Fawad Alam batted out the rest of the session smartly, taking to tea on 227 for 3.

Pakistan looked in command before Australia staged a stunning comeback to seize complete control of the game. The reintroduction of Starc into the attack proved to be a brilliant decision as he dismissed Fawad Alam for 13 with a stunning inswinging delivery that sailed through the bat-pad gap and dislodged the stumps. Rizwan, the centurion from the previous game, couldn't replicate his heroics and fell early to Starc.

Things changed quickly as Pakistan’s tail was exposed after Rizwan’s wicket. Cummins and Starc then ran through the rest of the batting lineup – the skipper picked up three wickets in a span of two overs to complete his five-for while the left-arm pacer completed formalities by dismissing Babar for 67 and then rattling Naseem Shah's stumps with a yorker.

The final session turned out to be a game-changer for Australia as they took seven wickets, reducing Pakistan from 227/3 to 268/10, and taking full control of the game.

With a first-innings lead of 123 runs, Khawaja and Warner batted through to stumps without losing a wicket.

Australia in a solid position
Even Pak manage to somehow bring it in with their bowling, i still Aus making a minimum of 250 which puts total lead above 350 plus

You ain't draw a game no matter how long you can bat when you are collapsing 7-20 and tail is longer than eiffel tower only 4 proper batsman in the team Shafiq Azhar Babar Rizwan and most of them are snail paced Aussies were never under pressure it was a matter of time

We had Aussies 200 odd for 5 and they got 390. we were 220/2 and all out 260 odd.

There lies difference we let Aussies get to many runs then are long tail starting at 5 was exposed.

There are 180 overs left in the game.

For Sure Australia will not declare until lead is 375.

That is 241 runs away.
241/3.5 = 68 overs
2 overs for change.

They will give us 20 overs tomorrow
And 90 on Friday to chase
375.

So another survival battle is on.
Just a tip.
Send Fawad alam as an opener and Drop imam at 5.

It might work. As both are failing, may be changing of slot might help the cause.

To survive 110 overs, pak will need 1 big partnership of 50 overs.

Aus are in momentum and I think if Warner sticks around, they could inch up to 4 rpo. If it was a better wicket then they would bat 5+ rpo.

But either way, Pak looks dead so congrats and thanks for coming.

Mitchell Starc presser:

"I don't think this wicket helps the fast bowlers at all"

"The key is reverse swing and both teams have used that well.

"We've got to stay patient, it's a hard slog, and things are going to happen quicker as the game goes on."

"Last week (in Karachi) we thought the wicket may break up a lot more than it actually did"

"Credit to Pakistan, they played really well, but we're in another position of opportunity...we'd rather be in those positions where we've got options and we're pressing the issue than having to survive."

"It's a huge positive for this group in foreign conditions to be pushing the game."

"That's why he's No. 1 in the world, Cummins started it for us."

"It's having a really calm approach"

"Patty's been fantastic in his captaincy. There have been times where they've built partnerships and played really nicely. It's about staying calm and not letting that scoreboard get out of control and take our chances and moments when they come."

"Once we get a sniff we want to try and ram that home"

"So to work in a fantastic partnership for those few overs is what we're about."

Hasan Ali's poor form with the ball has meant the decision to keep Faheem Ashraf out has backfired.

Hasan Ali was a waste to start off with and to think he is ahead of Naseem Shah in one days is unthinkable...but people like nauman and Sajid who are spinners and cant bat is even more sad.

Azhar Ali speaking to the press:

“Tomorrow is an important day for us and we need to bowl well. No target is easy in the fourth innings as Australia are already leading by more than 130 runs"

"The collapse we had after tea has dented our chances a little bit in the game but Test cricket is like that - it goes up and down"

"That's the beauty of Test cricket and hopefully we can turn things around tomorrow."

"We have to give credit to them. We always knew how good they are, especially Starc when it comes to reverse-swing. Cummins, he's an all-round very good bowler - he is the top bowler in the world right now, and he exploited the conditions really well.

"It was hard work for the fast bowlers but there was always a kind of low bounce and reverse-swing was going on since yesterday. They kept on bowling on the right areas and kept asking questions, even to the set batsmen as well, and late in the day there was some good results for them. It was lovely to see good, fast, reverse-swing bowling, and unfortunately we were on the receiving end."

"When you play on these pitches you have to bat long, because runs don't come very quickly. Our intent was to maximise the partnerships because it becomes a little difficult for the new batsman, because runs don't come quickly, you don't become set, and reverse-swing starts very early. So I think against a quality bowling side like Australia who have Cummins and Starc, they can cause problems in these conditions especially for new batsmen.

"Our 80s, we wanted to convert them into 150s and 170s because it was difficult for the new batsmen. Once our partnership [Azhar-Shafique] was broken, it wasn't easy for the new batsmen who came in. Unfortunately the collapse happened very early, and yes, we are in some trouble. But we will try to change [our situation] and in a similar way we have the opportunity to take quick wickets and change things around."

"The conditions basically dictate how you play cricket - If you compare across all three Test matches, both teams have been batting similarly. Even when we used to play in the UAE, one question was always asked, why we score so slowly. When you get slow pitches it's not easy to score quickly. It's easier when the ball is new, but when the ball gets old and there are straight fields [more fielders in front of the wicket], and when there are low-bounce pitches, it's not easy to score quick runs."

"You have to take a chance sometimes - I think it was a positive move from the management, they wanted five bowlers because you win Test matches only by taking 20 wickets. Our top six were the ones scoring maximum runs and we wanted to take [extra] responsibility as a batting unit. Unfortunately this collapse happened, but it doesn't mean the team selection was wrong. Naseem Shah proved that decision to play him as a fifth bowler paid off; he took four wickets and bowled very well. So sometimes, while taking a positive decision, you have to sacrifice something else, and we stand behind the decision as a team and and optimistic that it will pay off."

Stunning collapse.

But Pak can take heart from 2nd Test rearguard.

Not sure what's the surprise here.

Your tail starts at No 6 with no specialist all rounder.

Once the target is set and when he comes out to bat will wet his trousers and go back to the shower... Comedy king batsman:asif

Stunning collapse.

But Pak can take heart from 2nd Test rearguard.

You can’t take heart from draws at home whilst getting dominated a 2-1 series win is much better than this approach hopefully in future we will see better pitches and a more aggressive approach.

We had Aussies 200 odd for 5 and they got 390. we were 220/2 and all out 260 odd.

Astonishing collapse and Cummins continues to impress as a bowler! Totally agree that the difference was how both teams dealt with the opposition's lower order. Time and time again we've let the lower order take the game away from us!

Pakistan were 220 for 2!! I just couldn't believe the score once I switched on!! Pathetic!! No excuse. Australia should win and they deserve it

Poor selection not play chacha ifti at 6. Batting looks thread bare, 5 out, all out.

I think Faheem adds just as much with the bat and is currently a better bowler than Hasan Ali. Would have improved both the bowling and batting for Pakistan.

Lousy batting performance. Looked absolutely clueless when the ball started to reverse. It was almost like they had never seen reverse swing before.

Chacha is street wise, Faheem offers little against top off spinners. Hasan Ali offers little and hss done nothing to justify his selection. The selection of 2 journeyman spinners after the 1st test is shocking

Aus deserve to win this series. Pak have played defensively throughout, even from the preparation of the pitches which has lead to a very boring series to watch.

Amazing collapse from 1/170… should have taken a lead or at least scored 350-400 from there. I was even thinking in terms of a decent first innings lead.I think Australia will win. They will bat for 2 sessions and a bit on day 4 leaving Pakistan 110-120 overs to survive. Pak managed to bat for 171.4 overs in the 4th innings in Karachi but this might a different pitch and with the series on the line, the Aussies will be more ruthless this time. Pak themselves to blame for this mess
