Australia v England [Super 8s/Match 11] - Updates

In case you've forgotten, the number one batsman in the world reached his century

Top knock by the number one batsman in the world

The number one player in the world needs to really open up now

number one player in the world is a selfish player should have gone after the bowling a few overs ago

what a waste, such a positive start and the f up, PItersen was just looking to make a century at the end.

They've lost the match...

Last two overs I wanna see six sixes in both of them.
Or hit 20 or 15 in both of them.

#1 out. acknowledges the crowd and goes back to pavillion
240-7 after 483

Rest of the team letting it peter out to crap as per. Why bother letting KP get a hundred when it's gonna be pointless? Rubbish cricket from England.

Nixon hits a six and then gets out trying to hit another one
246-9 after 49.2

248 to win; England have failed to capitalize on KP's brilliance once again.

You forgot to mention hes the #1 batsman in the world. Please dont next time

like it should have been easy for South Africa yesterday,

It is a testing total, but it should have been a lot bigger. They were well set for 300 plus but collapsed. Apart from Bell and Pieterson, England's batsmen haven't done well at all.

a different wicket, a different day, watch the aussies chase the score down by the 42nd over...

Pietersen just a selfish mercenary. Didn't even bother to cross to allow Nixon the strike.

I don't think you can criticise a player who has done consistently well and thoroughly deserves his world number 1 ranking in one dayer's. England's other batsmen failed today, and if it wasn't for Bell and Pietersen, they would have been looking at a very low score.

Well #1 played very well till he got to 70 something. he was still batting at 90+ something strike rate. Then he didn't do what Ponting or Gibbs might do is control the game/batting and up the rate. He looked more interested in his 100. Was taking a single on first or second ball and the new batsman coming in Flintoff and Bopara couldn't rotate the strike. After Bell got out they had a spell of only 43 runs in 14 overs.

England is not out of the game but could have (should have) got to 260+ easily

He looked like an idiot, celebrating like he won the WC. It was a good innings but I think he went OTT

He did kind of over celebrate his 100.

selfish knock at the end. but I guess since Pieterson is the number one batsman in the world, it's kinda ok for him to play for himself and screw the team. yay for England.

and what was with the celebrations. it's just a hundred and probably in a losing cause at that. not the first time someone scored a hundred...

I remember when he scored one of the worst hundreds against us last summer. He was dropped multiple times, decisions going his way and then celebrated like he was on top of the world.

Oh get over yourself. It's a hundred, he can celebrate however the hell he wants.

Guy scores a hundred - no celebrations please if you're a knob. And since when was a s/r of 85 selfish? Between the scores of 80 and 100 KP scored at a s/r of 96, so what's the problem?

You have to admit that it wasn't a particularly good knock in the context of team benefit.

Oh come on, were you watching the same match as us? Did you see the last ten overs and how Pietersen was trundling for singles?

Look it was a gritty innings, not pretty but he scored a hundred which is what England needed to bloody do for a change. He might have gone off the boil towards the end but if it wasn't for the brilliance at the beginning, we wouldn't even have 200.

The problem is that some people (not all) can't let the fact that he 'cheated' at Headingley out of their heads.

Now lets stop bitching and get on with the bloody game.

Rather than accelerating in the last 8 odd overs he was picking up singles and twos and trying to maintain strike to ensure he got to his hundred when boundaries where needed. 249 is a definitely a below par score on this pitch.

He played fantastically well until he got to 80; from then on he only took singles and doubles to balls that would normally be hit out of the park by him so he could register a 100. Selfish play, but the thing is - would England be anywhere without his 100? Absolutely not.

Only 3 bats got into double figures. They're the ones that deserve the critisism.

Sure Pietersen's knock wasn't perfect but if he'd got out going for the big one with 8 or 9 overs to go then England might have folded for even less. The damage was done earlier in the game when Colly and Fred got out.

Last ball of Anderson's over was plumb. Bowden's eyes have gone.

Mahmood's last ball was probably out in law, but an okay decision.

England need Hayden, and they need Hayden fast.
