What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 1st Test | Brisbane | Dec 15-19, 2016 | Day 2

According to Waqar, a batsman after facing 181 balls is still "relatively new".

2 catches dropped off Yasir!

Anyone keeping track of his hypothetical average?

Handscomb reminds me a bit of Guptill.

I wish Guptill was given a chance to bat at 5, Neesham should be number 6.

Hcomb knows how to survive, a bit like Steve - not graceful but effective. Martin knows how to get out, a bit like Carl Hooper - always looks in great touch, then somehow gets out.

Guptill is class when he gets going and the ball isn't moving around. He should be batting at 5, he could score some handy runs against the older ball and tired bowlers.

Don't see Azhar fans rejoice when their favourite drops one

My words hold true, aisay fans dushman ko bhi na milien

Going by the QA final, I think there is a good chance this match might end in a draw. However, don't think there is any dew at Gabba. More than anything, in South Asia, dew is the biggest factor for D/N Test. I was thinking if it's possible to build roofed stadium in Asia - indoor Cricket stadium is financially feasible only in South Asia.

Wow, so many unknown Aussie newbies in this side. Pakistan must take advantage of this. :amir

Maddinson is so bad :)))

Pakistan back in this.

How I wish we faced this team when we toured, their batting is all on 3 batsmen atm.

PAK fielders don't enjoy fielding - in old times, I knew PAK players who were playing in Dhaka league & in between play fringe matches in tournaments across Bangladesh - most of them would put a clause that they won't field. Since both teams had such hiered players, it was manageable. But, it looked so funny that a player will bowl his quota at one go and then rest in tent.

No matter how much one practices, unless the passion is there catching won't improve, unless players enjoy catching & expect catches to come at them. Before this tour, I was almost certain that the major gap is in Catching - PAK lost a Test to Mugab Zimboks for catching; Aussies are a bit better team than ZIM.

Aussies have enough runs on the board with our 1 dimensional batting

It seems Pakistan bowlers are slow starters. Take their sweet time to get in to the rhythm.

Interesting, when was this ? Who were some players that wouldn't field ?

Wahab picked up another wicket Wish I could have watched it but Willow is now showing the Ind Eng Match!

With our defensive opening duo upfront it'll be just a matter of time before they get bounced or blitzed out by Starc or outfoxed by Hazlewood.

Fully expect Azhar to play out a session but only score 10 runs

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I don't rate anyone in this AUS batting lineup apart from Warner, Khwaja, Renshaw and Smith. Get 2-3 of them cheaply and you'll be staring at a par or maybe sub-par score.

Why is he bowling with 6 men on the leg side!

I remember in Sri Lanka he was bowling with a 7-2 field on the off side he should do that again.

Handscomb is the 3rd best batsmen in this side.
Others will be found out soon enough.
Especially Khawajas overseas other than vs a feeble NZ side.

I guess Ian Healy can't hold a candle to the experts on PP who think this leg stump line is excellent..

Interesting, when was this ? Who were some players that wouldn't field ?

More or less everyone, I won't put names. They are superstars considering a 25 overs match on club grounds at Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur or Sylhet - where a single player could change the match with a 60 and 5 overs spell, so no one complained. And during bowling, they'll stand at slip (forced to keep a slip in 25 overs match to acomodate 4 overs). Among PAK players, Malik is the only player who'll field every ball, anywhere captain wants him to stand. Even at top level - be sure, if someone hits a 100; he is not going to field. Indian players were not at this level but Malhotra would move so slow that Captsin will put him at slip. Srilankans were absolute comited - they'll clap, cheer, run, smile & often would stand at firing lines - short leg, short cover.

TBH, that 85* is the most fidgety and unsure knock that I've seen in years.

Ian Healey is the biggest clown in the world of commentators.

Never been anyone so biased and so annoying.

Thankfully it didnt carry otherwise it would have been dropped

Crazy field from Misbah. How can you blame Yasir for bowing that defensive line TBH. That ball that went for 4 was perfect but Misbah wants Yasir to bowl on leg stump

Misbah needs to pack that off side field and tell Yasir to bowl on off stump

I wonder if there's a difference in first innings conditions in Sri Lanka and Australia?

I know this is actually making me mad at Misbah! Yasir was pleading for another man at off stump!

Misbah has surrendered - he is trying to delay the scoring. If he had guts could have thought otherwise - this Aussie bottom half can be knocked below 400...

Exactly. Why is Misbah afraid of Wade and the tailenders??

This is probably the most vital time of the test match if we want to a come back of sorts. We hv to get them all out maximum one hour after tea and then try to take the shine of the ball by playing our attritional cricket for today coz I hope the soft ball won't move around too much under lights as compared to a new hard pinky.

He is not afraid of tail - he is afraid of being hit for boundary. Recall how many times he conceded 5/6 singles in an ODI with 2 new batsmen on wicket. MoYo and Afridi were same - only captain in recent times I saw who really forced batsmen to go after was MoHa - sometimes in CT T20, he made teams struggle to chase 120ish scores. I am just trying to think what Azhar will do in same situation ...

Ahh!!! I can't watch this kind of defensive cricket from Misbah!
