Australia v Pakistan | 1st Test | Brisbane | Dec 15-19, 2016 | Day 2

This match can end in a draw with some proper application from the Pakistani batters. They just shouldn't lose the game in their head.

Scoreboard pressure can be daunting in Australia but you can always score runs if you're disciplined enough. This wicket doesn't seem to have too many demons. Pak batsmen shouldn't get intimidated with Starc and Hazelwood and look to apply themselves more, runs are there for the taking.

Sami trying a wild slog sweep.

The ball is turning for sure.

Lyon getting some good bounce. Sami will have to be careful against him although he is a really good player of spin

Babar looking really determined. What a special player. Sami looking good too

if I'm Amir I am literally studying the way Starc & Hazlewood are bowling on this wicket. This is exactly how he should be bowling. Got to make the batsmen play.

Let me tell you folks.

it's LYON who will get all them wickets!!

I believe your talking about Salman Bhat playing in the QAE final where the conditions are completely opposite. Remember Azhar Ali has scored a triple ton with the same technique 3 tests ago. I think with our batters it's more about a mental disintegration than technique when they tour out side Asia barring Younis khan whose technique warrants a lot of reassessment. Mentally you can say he is still a tough nut to crack.

I am talking about batting technique - balance, feet movement, leaving ball doesn't depend on wicket. Azhar got a triple in UAE & he'll average 60+ there - on wickets where batting success is a factor of patience & time, whole day you might not get one unplayable ball. Even in that 300, I didn't see him playing one back foot drive or a hit on the rise. Fundamental mistake that everyone makes is, technical batting is not about dogged defense, shot making ability is big part of it. Gavasker didn't score 14 hundres against WI with high elbow, steady head, eyes on line only - he scored off them as well. Azhar's first mantra is survival, which won't work in AUS - didn't work in NZ with 31 in 4.5 hours.

Lyon will be a lot to handle for our batsmen who cannot handle anything that seams, swings, spins, or deviates even a bit :yk2

Sami looks so far out of his depth here...

Seems like a very limited batsmen.

Are you even watching the match? :))

For months I've been writing that a new ball can reduce you to 95-6 under lights.

And that that is why players like Aamer Yamin and Hasan Ali were crucial here, for their ability to turn 95-6 at the end of play into 300 all out by Dinner the next day. A bit like Bird and Lyon converted 380/9 into 429.

I'm not sure that Rahat Ali will be much help with the bat.

I think instead of Starc or Hazelwood, Pakistan will find it tough against Lyon.

The only batsmen who will be at ease will be Younis Khan, but he has to survive Starc first :)

The pitch has bounce, and that's gonna be the only problem.

Otherwise, this pitch has 300-350 runs on offer.

Also the rate at which we generally bat, is going to be a problem, because if you bat 100 odd overs and score only 200 runs, you are going to be bowled out for 220 even batting that many overs.

Need to target a RR of around 3 in Australia.

Strac is a whole different proposition, it's going to be worse under lights. I had my worries of Azhar facing Strac, and he lost his wicket in the very first ball.

Lyon will cause problems with Sami the most, because of been lefty. Others should do better. Pakistan has to play him sensibly and not try to over attack, he knows how to bowl here. Pakistan has tendency to go after spinners, since they don't do much against seamers.

I did not see the match earlier,Why the hell last pair batted for 40 odd runs ?? 👺👺

How on earth did Aus manage to score 400+ runs against this "world class" bowling unit?

I think Hazzlewood and Bird will be ineffective against Pakistan, Pakistan have net bowlers like Hazzlewood and Bird. Lyon will retire after this match. Only threat is Starc

Yeah, if Strac and HW gets injured and Lyon has stomach bug for next four days and all this has to happen now 🤓

Even playing spin here is problem. Bounce is killing us even in this department 🤧🤧

Let's go, boys! Dikhado hymaray naujavaano ka jose aur junoon!!!

Need to get to 350 by hook or by crook if we're to stay in this. Can't afford any more dismissals today.

Babar has good skills, but needs to leave the wider balls.

He is playing balls that he should be leaving.

Babar looks so comfortable out there in his very first tour of Aus, that too against a strong Aussie pace attack.

He looks like the real deal.

I just couldn't agree more with u on this. There's none denying the fact that our batsmen hv abysmal technique to play on hard and bouncy pitches and when there's a bit of a side wise movement we probably are worse than Zimbabwe but what I m trying to put across is that cricket has changed a lot over the years and batsmen even with faulty technique have made it big on international level their mental strength. The likes of Haydens, gillys, sehwags etc have been extremely successful cricketers in the last decade or two and we all know how good they technically were. If we talk of this test match, I m sure u will be the first one to say that Smith doesn't come across as a technically sound player but look how's he fared over the last couple of years as a batsman. So to me if u are sound mentally and know your game, know your weaknesses and strengths you can be a success story in international cricket.

Sami needs to rotate the strike here and look for singles, this is going to end up causing extra pressure on our batting here. You cant just occupy the crease and not look to score runs.

I can see a daft shot coming up from Sami pretty soon!

The turn on the wicket

Well well well nathan lyon is getting a big turn from the wicket, this wicket all of a sudden is good for spinners and its day 2.

Could yasir become dangerous here?

Not sure if Mitchell Starc or Conner McGregor. Uncanny similarity in both looks and body language.

Great learning curve for Sami and Babar. Both of them would never have faced pace like this on such a quick and bouncy wicket. Whatever happens they'll come out better players from this tour.

Sami should really get going. Spending time at the crease is good but atleast rotate the damn strike.

Chris Rogers on ABC Radio just decribed Asif in the top three bowlers he ever faced.

Said that him and Shaun Pollock were the only two who could control which way the Ball seamed off the pitch.

Sami and azhar , i bet no one will wakw up to see these guys bat together.

This is true but only because nobody could possibly sleep if you knew you these two were going to bat the next day. It would be like a kid going to Disney World, you'd be up all night because you're unable to contain the excitement.

Why don't you tweet Faf and ask him to select Pollock for the next series.

When did he face Mohammad Aasif. May be in the county.

Just watched Babar Azam for the first time, the kid has it in him to be the next Kohli, ok time to sleep now

Lol! Keep 'em coming, bro! :)))

Our best bet is to try and play for a draw from here on. No point in trying to score fast, bore the hell out of the Aussies.

I like how Sami is frustrating not only the Aussies but also the wrist slitters on PP who have no idea of Test cricket, that too in Australia on a first tour.

Jealous much, haters? :akhtar

This strategy cost us 2 straight matches and a series defeat in NZ yet we don't learn. No one is asking to go t20 mode for the umpteenth time. Simple rotation of strike would do. Kid can't even do that ... even worse then Azhar!

LOL! I love it! Sami is getting on Australian nerves. Starc is going to explode any second.

Wow, shots fired. Did anyone catch the sarcasm when the commie referred to Sami as a batsman?

Really dont understand why Sami keeps playing slog sweep, such a risky shot which hes likely to throw his wicket away to,

I'm with the commentator... Sami is batting like a nightwatchmen who is out there to protect the batsmen.

He got a boundary but I don't like that shot from Sami, Lyon is getting a lot of bounce and the risk/reward ratio isn't in the batsman's favour. Lyon will be happy to see us sweeping and slog sweeping.
