What's new

Australia v Pakistan | 1st Test | Brisbane | Dec 15-19, 2016 | Day 4

I think he'd have been and gone before dark! :)

I'm just very conscious not just of Umar Akmal's Test record in Australia, but also his A Test record here. He likes the extra pace and bounce.

That Umar Akmal has died boss, you are watching his clone - unfortunately Lord has goofed up the gins & made this one with every bad habits that the original one had. I do watch his batting - last probably was 2013, I saw him playing a proper cut shot - now he plays every thing to squire leg crowd, at least try for that ..... on top of that, for some reason, now he watches 2 balls from left-arm spinners - always picks the fake one..........

Wait.......What ???? :20:

Just an idea. After misbah and yk retire , one replacement i guess will be haris sohail/usman salahuddin and there still will be a place open. For number 6 guys like rizwan/umar akmal will be trying and i think shehzad too can try his luck at 6.

Why Sarfaraz bat so low? He seems so positive and can play some genuinely good looking proper strokes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marsh brothers in for India with Khawaja (who couldn't even pick Azhar at the Gabba) and Maddinson out.

1. Warner
2. Renshaw
3. Smith*
4. S.Marsh
5. Handscomb
6. Wade/Nevill+
7. M.Marsh
8. O'Keefe
9. Starc
10. Hazlewood
11. Lyon

imo

That's probably best unit, but a big issue is the number of Lefti, something I mentioned categorically before Poms toured BD & then to IND. In fact, our fat selector missed the trick by not picking couple of offies, other wsie we would have won the ODI series.

No Wade - he'll not survive against Ashwin; Nevins FC record is better & he is far better WK. Probably, I'll drop Renshaw for a right hander & play him in middle order (Shaun to open); rest team is possibly best available.

It would be great if we can take this to day 5.

I'd say that would be a genuine morale boosting effort to say the least....

Playing at down under in after more than half a decade and you get to a day five at the paciest wicket in Australia. Would be quite an effort tbh :14:

That too after batting under lights 3 days in a row

37 overs left with 2 overs old ball under light & 5 wickets down - these are win win situation. ...... Day 5 was scheduled on Sunday night .. :)

This is a lovely batting pitch.

In my opinion, Misbah and Younis both need to be retired. Misbah averages 22.10 outside Asia in his last ten innings while Younis, who was always a classier batsman, has lost his consistency.

I recognise that Shafiq has lost it psychologically too.

Is the question whether Umar Akmal would have thrown it away here?

Probably. But Misbah is no longer capable and Younis just threw it away.

I suspect that Umar Akmal would have made 20 in the first innings and 80 in the second innings here. Which is more than Younis and Misbah combined.

For the record, in four innings here Younis and Misbah have contributed 74 runs.

Umar simply doesn't have the temperament, he would have thrown his wicket charging Lyon after 30 runs

We are not gonna get close to 490 lol...

Getting to day 5 I would say Pakistan has created doubts in mind of Aussies, they are not going to be pushovers as it seemed in first innings, also MCB and SCG are usually flat, this might end up being the best Pakistani tour to Aus in a while.

Best thing you can do now is to play as many overs as you can and tired theirs bowlers for the next matches.

Yeah i am happy that we battled it out today, but 490 is beyond our reach... though getting 300+ will be a morale booster for sure

I have seen enough to say this with a bit confidence that it will be the bowling and fielding which will be main culprit and not the batting, even though this batting isn't ideal but it's the bowling and fielding which is more mediocre.

If we somehow end up around 300/5 will you guys think the unthinkable? I defo would have if we don't had the worst tail in the world, even a single sher khan would have given me enough confidence.

But their goes the last hope, sorry guys i think i was expecting too much on my birthday and got a bit high.

Awful batting performance again apart from that partnership between Azhar and Younis

In my three days at this match I found that the toughest time for batting was from 6 pm (after Dinner) through to 7.30 pm, as the last bits of natural light were replaced by total floodlight illumination.

7.30 pm to the 8.30 pm close was not too hard.

Unfortunately Sarfraz just got bowled at 7.27 pm!

It may have not prevented this defeat but the fact our batsmen have improved the more time they've spent at the crease shows a couple more practice matches would've been massively beneficial.

Its criminal how little time there was between the end of the end of a WI series, NZ series and Australia series.

WI series should've been 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 1 T20 to allow us more preparation time for these Southern Hemisphere tours.

Well looking at the batting performance in the second innings I think we will do much better in the second test.

Are we watching a different match?

I saw Azhar and Younis edging an awful lot of balls in broad daylight.

I think the three best batsmen have been Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz.

Floodlights and a new ball.

This is tough.

Poor Pakistan have had to bat in the Night session on 3 of the 4 days.

Shafiq at number 6 with this poor tail isnt compatible.

Shafiq needs to move up , we need someone who can play a little quick at number 6.

we need four 50 run partnerships now !!

Would be a very good confidence booster

New hard shiny pink ball under lights becomes a different proposition all together. Huge disadvantage for the batting team.

This is why rain has been terrible

Stop and start routine disrupted the batsmens momentum

Azhar certainly got out due to loss in concentration

And now the new ball is in the toughest part of the day.

If there hadn't been rain then new ball would have been used when it was sunny

Rain is useless unless it washes out a couple of sessions

They tried him up the order it didn't work so I guess it's going to remain like this for the rest of his career.

How much time left for today?

It was scheduled to finish in 25 minutes from now, but because of the rain they have been given an extra hour and a half!. So there could be up to 29 more overs left in 115 minutes!

It will finish tonight.

That's exactly what I was thinking when it started to rain. I was sure that this would only make it worse for us. Ball would hv already been 25 30 overs old by now and who knows what wd hv been the situation in the game.

Correct.

Without rain, the new ball would have been taken at 4.30 pm, and it would already be 25 overs old now, with only 12 overs left today.

But the rescheduling due to rain means that it's only 10 overs old, and Australia will get another 29 overs tonight.

Much to the dislike of Mamoon Amir's batting is improving.

Starc is bowling wonderfully here

Hate to admit but Amir doesn't get this momentum, shape or speed

I guess if amir really work hard both on his batting he may still not end up as good as wasim akram as batsman and bowler, but he can be poor man's akram or a little inferior version of wasim akram, and that would be still great achievement. And he can end up as pak great.

The bounce of the Gabba wicket isn't that good as before not sure if some changes were done.
