Why did Rauf come before Ajmal?
I think he thought he could of made up for his horrible bowling display by making runs!

if yusuf gets out, mach is literally over.. what he doing is right, there is still whole lot of time left (almost 5 hours..) and they should just keep taking singles patiently

First principle of batting with tail-enders is for the real batsman to try and bat the first 4 or 5 balls and then take a single, NOT take a single the first ball of the over.

Ajmal just hit. You have more chances of survival when you play your natural game and not trying to defend.

Beautifully placed between Haddin and slip for 4 runs, positive intent from the last ball before lunch. Well done Ajmal, into double figures for the first time in his test career and the Aussies will be getting nervous during the lunch break after seeing that

Honestly Pakistan survivng the first session is impressive itself............ so there is hope in this series.

Really? Someone forgot to tell Steve Waugh, a guy who batted with tailenders for a living.

I guess Inzi didn't get the memo either ;-)

Its not a "principle" set in stone - its just normal cricketing practice, to which there have been exceptions whenever warranted or appropriate.

we only play well when we have no hope of winning :D, at least under yousuf's captaincy.
such heartbreak, i couldn't sleep last night waiting eagerly for day 5, and look how they treat us :D

:ajmal brings up his highest score in test cricket with that beautiful late cut lol.

wait for the backlash. tommorrows headline would be . Dasti summons PCB on suspicions of match fixing

Or on Aus suspicions of cheating/ball tampering.... they love to have ridiculous reasoning for our shortcomings.

really unfortunate that not a single recognized batsman stayed with MoYo today. The match would have been really interesting if one player had made 50 today.

Time for yousef to pull a sehwag show here.... flat wicket and he is pretty much set so he should go after the bowlers rather then wait for ajmal to lose his wicket.

Couldn't agree more.

Just hit out and make some quick runs. The match is lost, might as well provide us some entertainment

Reviewing this session makes me sick, but it epitomises Pakistan through and through. We often fail when we most require grit.

he did an afridi but that was no excuse especially with his vice captain responsibility what does that say to other team members

Yousuf playing to improve his measly 30 average against Australia, not shepherding the strike whatsoever. And we criticise Sachin for playing for landmarks.

If he shepherds the strike, the average wont increase ? Thank you for the insight into finer nuances of the game.

that's the problem, he wasn't thinking, he did an afridi :D

Lol i'd say he did a Farhat.
Even AFRIDI doesn't do that now! He bats responsibly.

Kamran needs to spend some time in self-reflection, he is supposedly the vice captain and the last recognized batsman, he should learn a little patience from Yousef who had been on the wicket for hours.

itduzz said:
shame on kamran akmal...he should be sacked

Itduzzy , match was lost on first morning. We were hoping against the hope till now.

With Myk we will put up a better show

is it only me who thinks the both the deliveries of hautirz were no balls? They only showed the replays once from side view and both of them looked no balls.

yeah i noticed that only on aamer's wicket

Umar Akmal is fast becoming another Afridi or Nazir. I didn't want to mention this until i saw his dismissal, now that I have, I'd say that he needs to bring himself together or we'll have a nice collection of gormless hitters.

Whether a principle or normal cricketing practice, this situation certainly does not warrant an exception. Misbah batted beautifully with the tail-enders in the first innings. Yousuf on the other hand has given the majority of the strike to Rauf and Ajmal. Rauf is gone and Ajmal barely survived so far. So please explain how Yousuf's approach makes sense.

Misbah needs to be dropped asap.

Having said that, this match is far from over.

Yeah, that delivery from Johnson was terrible - I mean if one of our lads bowled that we would admonish the opposition batsmen wouldnt we?

If he attains a not out by his name, his avg. will go up (I think thats what he was alluding to)

as long as pak goes down with a fight It is ok. You win some and you lose some. But if we lose then we must rectify the mistakes in the 2nd and 3rd test and come after the Aussies even harder.

Oh it doesn't, at all!:) I just didn't think its the First Principle, that's all.

well same here, even my elder brother who has completely lost his interest in cricket being an expat, he was also so glued to watch the match today and what happened in first over completely ruined the atmosphere at home :(

Spirit! - Moyo's not even trying to do the whole 5-ball 1 single routine = hes given up.

Post of the minute

pak rr is still 3.55 but wickets are the problem. They need to bat for 50 over at this rate to win.

Chances are slim but not impossible. Moyo needs to protect the tail.

what if he had hit the ball for six?

But he didn't instead he stuck his middle finger up to the nation.

afridi only pulls an afridi when he has completed his job....kami didnt.

Watching the lunch time on geo super. Aamir Sohail is ripping into Miandad.

you know what you are talking about? let me make the maths complex.

we need to survive 384 balls and only 2 good balls can end the match anytime.

it's over, we've lost. come to peace with it, it'll hurt less when they take the final wicket.

Aamir: "Miandad is taking a huge salary from PCB, he needs to volunteer himself to help the batsmen."

Akmal is still young and new to International test cricket, he will learn with experience and then start to take responsibility with his batting. He has the technique and the ability, his temperament will build as he plays more and more.

no he hasn't..he would much rather keep taking singles than be selfish because once he's out, match is over for sure.

Fawad said:
But he didn't.

correct but the thing with akmal is that he is an aggressive player and he went for his shots as he did back in 2006 in karach and mohali before that besides this match was over by the time he came in to bat.

No, it wouldn't be our job to berate the other team's batsmen, I'd rather focus on Pakistan's performances. He was driving at the damn thing in the first over of the day's play today, atleast get your damn eye in before you attempt any aggresive strokes.

Like I say he is becoming another brainless hitter, didn't say he is. It's not just his second innings dismissal, his first innings showed his contempt and lack of respect for Test cricket. He was well set and going strong until he played that needless shot.

I specifically said he needs to collect himself and his thoughts before he continues on this tour. I hope he does, I say all this as a fan of his cricketing ability.
