What's new

Australia v South Africa | 1st Test | Perth | Nov 3-7, 2016 | Day 1

Shocking to see empty stands. 1st Test of home season but no enthusiasm?

Ground is 25% full..you'd expect it to be 65-70%

People in the members stands would be hanging out in the bars at this time of day

The WACA doesn't actually hold 20,000 anyway.

It's less than that

At 40-4 I wouldve taken anything over 200 so this isnt a bad comeback by South Africa. They can get 200 here

De Kock, what a talent this guy has turned out to be! Has to move up the order in place of Duminy.

Bavuma seems like the best non white/ brown batsman for SA I have watched so far :lara

Wow, 12000 ? Watching thise almost empty stands gives you a feel of 3-4000 and not more.

If the official figure is 12000, I was wrong. Good enough for a test

I watched the starting of match and it was some 70% full. May be post lunch spectators are hanging out in bar/ restaurants hence the empty spaces.

I expect good crowds for Saturday, forecast is for 34 deg :warne

A lot of people would be hanging around the bars and stuff inside the stands.

Very ordinary performance from SA to be fair..

Aussies favourites anyways.

SA's fortunate not to be facing a 100% fit Starc.. this innings could have already been over by now if they were..

Class bowler who always looks threatening.

South Africa look a shadow of their former self.

Might reach 250 with some luck.

I see Maharaj's FC batting avg is 22.91. If I was a betting man...

QDK has been solid
No AB will hurt SA hard
200 would be okay considering the situation they were in today
And if Aus bat today and they manage to pick up a couple

de cock is such a skilled player. wish we had somebody like him.

How effortlessly quinny has been playing.....epitome of supreme talent

completely dominating starc

Where are Jo_Don and vandokkum?

Not much lateral movement for Steyn or Philander. Proper swing bowling is so rare these days.

Steyn in good rhythm and cranking up some good pace but Philander is too slow for this pitch.

It's not Philander's pace, his strength is line and length and like Hazlewood he could be successful minus the bounce...

But when he errs in giving some width he'll be spanked..

and ofc, the goddamn no balls.

Steyn needs a series against hafeez
Get some wickets under his belts

havent seen vandokkum for ages.

was one of my favorite posters!

Must be pretty easy to bat when you're holding a freaking tree trunk and just slashing every ball to the boundary.

Wonder how good he'd be with a proper bat made for humans.

SA mainstays in next 5 years period :

Elgar
De Kock
Bavuma

These three have solid potential and will be their best bats after Amla and AB retirement.

Aman didn't you rate Philander? What happened? He is getting flogged like a government mule, RIGHT HERE IN PERTH! :19:

70% of Warner total runs come in the month between Nov - Jan..

And that too at a SR very hard to match even in odis let alone in the longer format of the game.

GeeZ

SA getting smashed here
Thought 200 was good to get with the position they were in and might get a wicket or 2 if Aus bat but right now they are getting crushed

The question is if there is any chance for SA to save this test?

Look on the bright side, we can't be much worse than Safrica

In SL Warner was looking kinda crap against spinners but he is a real beast in these conditions.....

only thing u can do is just watch n enjoy once he gets going

this is the first test in australia in almost 8 months and they can barely sell out half the ground. cricket in australia is in a bad shape.

This reminds me of the Aus-Ind series 2 years ago.

There was this one time when I woke up at 7 AM during the first day of the SCG test (match starts around 5 AM IST here) and as soon as I got out of the bed, I switched on the tv to eagerly know the match situation, hoping we got the Aussies 2 or 3 down for some 70 or 80 odd score.

What a surprise I had coming. The scoreboard read 130/0 at 25 overs and Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav were getting the phaintaa of their lifetime from Warner & co.:yk

12000 is about 70% capacity

lol is this for real?

I wish if we could have got stats for most runs scored in each of the 12 months.

Warner would be among top in those three months mentioned.

Doesn't he avg below 40 away from home?

And when you leave out SA where conditions are a bit similar to Aus with some swing initially in the game, that avg would be even worse.

12000 is about 70% capacity

12000/20000 = 60%

anyway, how many tests do they play in perth every year? it is worrying that australia can't even get a decent crowd on the first day of the test. i was just watching highlights of brendon julian's knock in a SS final in the mid 90s and the stadium was packed. this is only about test cricket, people seem to be in love with bbl tho.

The capacity is only 20,000 when they put up the temporary stands for the Ashes.

This was against Steyn, Philander and Rabada.

Imagine us :rahat
