Australia v South Africa | 1st Test | Perth | Nov 3-7, 2016 | Day 1

The capacity is only 20,000 when they put up the temporary stands for the Ashes.

u are probably right but according to waca.com.au

Ground dimensions and capacity
The Ground is 149 metres in length and 139 metres wide. It can accommodate 22,000 attendees, or 24,500 with temporary seating.

Look at the big bash league attendences (all sold out)

Gotta sympathize with Maharaj making his debut in Perth of all places.

well it's definitely over 20000 according to the attendance figures. so actually the ground wasnt even 60% full today.

Hint. They use the temp stands for big bash as well.

So 21000 is max with stands.

And more than 1.5 million people would have watched the third test

And in Perth there is the WACA effect where crowds are dpressed because its at the old stadium with horrible facilities (check Adelaide and Port Adelaide attendences before and after moving to the Adelaide Oval)

You really want to push this narrative that isn't backed

12,382 turned up today on a working day. brilliant crowd for a test match on a weekday.

lol then why did u tell me to check the BBL attendances? is there even a single source u can cite with the capacity that u claim the ground to be at?

i'll go with the official figures from waca until u do. 22000 it is.

The way Rabada,Philander,Steyn are being smacked ,think its time to reevaluate how Pakistani pacers will perform there.

AUSTRALIA dismissed Stephen Cook with the fourth ball of the match and they never looked back as they totally dominated the opening day of the first Test match against the Standard Bank Proteas at the WACA on Thursday.

Australia closed the day with a first innings deficit of 137 with all their wickets in hand.

It was a day on which very little went right for the Proteas after Faf du Plessis had won the toss and opted to bat first. In truth Australia were superior to them in all three disciplines. Their bowling was tight, their catching bordered on the exceptional and their opening pair of David Warner and Shaun Marsh have already posted the biggest partnership of the match with their unbeaten 105 in 21 overs.

It could have been slightly better as Vernon Philander trapped Warner lbw for 17 only for the delivery to be identified as a no ball when the Proteas did a review. Warner went on to finish the day on a very brisk 73 (62 balls, 13 fours and a six).

The Proteas were up against it from the time they lost four wickets for 32 runs in 13 overs. There was a slight recovery as Du Plessis and Temba Bavuma put on 49 for the fifth wicket and then Bavuma and Quinton de Kock a further 71 for the sixth wicket.

De Kock went on to make top score of 84 (101 balls, 11 fours and a six) and was only denied a second Test century by some careless batting by some of the lower order. As he ran out of partners he tried to force the pace and paid the inevitable price.

Bavuma was next best with his 51 (86 balls, 7 fours) which took his Test career average past the benchmark of 40. He was desperately unlucky to be dismissed by a sensational catch by Shaun Marsh at short leg.

Probably the best positive to come out of the match for the Proteas was the bowling of Dale Steyn who topped 150km/h for the first time since his injuries. His battle with Warner with the new ball provided the most compelling viewing of the day.

The Proteas will certainly need their attack leader to strike quickly and often on the second morning. The wicket of Warner will have to be an absolute priority.

Does this remind anyone of the India vs Australia 2011 test match at WACA?

Warner had a similar onslaught after India got bowled cheaply.

Theres an image in my mind which i cant ever forget. Dave Warner coming down the track and smashing Vinay Kumar for a six on what was actually a fast WACA pitch

South Africa will get back into this. Clutch test team.

The D/N test is first up for us and South Africa don't have a Wahab Riaz. Our pacers will be just fine and we have a leg-spinner for the third/fourth innings.

Good bowling performance by Aussies on the 1st day, they should be looking to bat big in this 1st inns in reply and really put the pressure on S.A it could be a very long day chasing leather around the park on day 2 if their bowlers dont buck up their ideas. Australia will always be a match for anyone still in home conditions.

Wahab bullying Watto (but not getting him out) really did leave a mark on you..

Smith was comfortable against him

Should of played Morkel instead of the spinner, he is great against left handers.
I hope he wasnt dropped because of the quota system becuase that would be stupid

Good to see Siddle comeback doesn't look as effective as before though.

Steyn and Rabada(currentlform) are better than Wahab in test cricket.

Australia will slaughter Pakistan

Anything less than 3-0 nil will be surprising to me tbh

If Amir doesn't get Warner early, Warner will take Wahab, Sohail and Yasir to the cleaners. Wahab will leak runs at the rate of 5 RPO every innings I bet.

Based on what has happened in Australia in past few years, winning/ drawing series here for now is out of question..

Only their bowlers seem to be able to extract something out of wickets which otherwise are so unforgiving to other bowlers. Their batsman know how to bat better than anyone else in home-conditions.. They pile up 400-500 at brisk rate which leaves plenty of time to get opposition out. It's a classic case of adaption.

Pakistan and England loss next year is on the card.. Only thing I am looking forward to is if they can escape the whitewash.

If Aus slaughter SA and Pakistan, I'll gladly take our defeats there.

We drew one Test and pushed them close in the D/N Test.

A tour of Australia really does demoralize fans :))

They were all over us when he toured last season.
