Look basically the bowlers r not good enough to exicute the plan, its As
Simple,
But im not surprised about faulkner i Saw tje the india v aus series, this guy could b a gun in all formats

Read Brearley's book on Captaincy.

Cook is a Ponting tier Captain. Ponting won two World Cups- doesn't make him a good captain.

You really dont know much about cricket Convict, Ponting was and is one of the best ODI captains to play international cricket, to put Cook in his tier is like putting Bresnan in the same tier as Garner.

I think he should be kept to shorter forms right now, his bowling still isn't good enough for a 4 man attack in tests and he isn't a test match number 6 yet.

I agree.

It is unfair and insulting to put Ponting on Cook's level.

Still wasn't a great captain and wasn't the best in the world.

Well I could take your word for it or I could take the word of players that played under him, I guess you lose on this one.

Talk to England's players and they will all say that Cook is a good Captain

For me has more to offer than baily

I think bailey needs to be replaced by a proper bat, faulkner may be able to match or even better bailey at number 6 but that doesn't make him a number 6 at test level.

Our top 6 batting is still a huge issue in tests and we don't have the batting depth to be playing bowlers at 6.

Anyone here has a license for a gun?

Surely, I need to be murdered for missing this :(

I dont care if Cook is a good or bad captain, I'm just letting you know how wrong you are when you say Ponting was not a good captain. He was one of the very best and one of the reasons he was made player of the decade (2000-2009) was because of his captaincy as voted by various ex-players, current players, cricket writers and commentators. This is a recorded fact not my opinion.

Almost felt sorry for the poms tonight, they were going absolutely nuts when they took those wickets near the end, even though it's just a one dayer this game clearly meant the world to them.

Cook must be at breaking point.

Amazing how quickly the one day game is changing, even 5 years ago i think the batting side would have been looking towards game 3 when they were 8 down, 300 just isn't the challenge it used to be not when teams have these tailenders who can score 50+ at a good clip.
In fairness, having 8 down doesn't mean much when you have tailenders like Johnson and Faulkner at the crease. The main change is that T20 has broken down mental barriers. Nowadays, expecting near 100 runs off the last 10 overs is reasonable whereas 60-70 used to be the norm.

Nothing going right for Eng atm. Not at all surprised by Faulkner's heroics actually. The guy gives it his all every time he goes out there. You can't ask for more than that. Brilliant knock!
