So this is where we stand:

Australia are 191/7 * (88 ov), trail by 59 runs with 3 wickets remaining in the innings

Travid Head is 61* along with M Starc on 8*

Head now holds the key to how close Australia will end up to India but can India remove him early on Day 3?

i think australia is going to earn a handsome lead here in the first innings

Nope, usually when a team comes out to bat the next day, they get out quickly. I expect India to have a lead going into 2nd innings and posting a total of 300+. Australia will be bowled out for less than 150 in second innings.

that's not going to happen sir...Australia are beasts at home, they cannot lose this game...they may bowl out India for less than 150 in the 2nd innings and chase down the target easily

8th wicket down and it started raining...lucky australia

Not much in it after first innings. But IND posted 250 from 40-4, must be in advantage here. Another 250 should win this game.

All out.

It's raining hard, but this is our big chance IMO.

Whenever we come out we need to score 350-400 minimum.

This might be blessing in disguise for Australian pacers. Perfect conditions to bowl.

India ahead in the game. Aussies Batting not likely to chase anything over 200 , 250 runs and India will win this easy

1.10pm We may have to wait for a bit before India resume because it's drizzling and the covers are coming on. Wonder if there's now a case for the lunch break to be advanced.

Its raining again , but good thing for India is that India have got Aussies all out

Lunch declared

Vijay practising with underarm throwdowns..
Rahul...ran back to pavilion

Outstanding effort by Indian bowlers, our comeback after that horrid 1st session on day 1 has been brilliant. Now up to the batsmen to make amends. Conditions may be overcast but unlike English bowlers the Aussies are hit the deck hard types, so may not exploit the conditions that well.

Ashwin has a great record against left handers. Bumrah and Ishanth have natural deliveries leaving the lefties. Shami apparently has an average of 22 against lefties this year. And...Australia have 4 lefties in top 6 and 6 in 11.

Ind gave advantage back to Aus again. They let the tail drag and get back into the game.

Australian tail is not a joke. Cummins can seriously bat, Starc and Lyon can smash the ball around. The way Lyon was batting it looked like the Aussies were gonna take a lead of 40 to 50 atleast

Cummins can. Starc can swing it too.

When was the last time India took a lead in first innings of a test against Australia in Australia?

Looks like the rain that fell has slowed the out field considerably.

4s are becoming 2s and 3s.

Lyon needs to pick some wickets here. It's turning a lot for him as long as he lands in right spot.

Rahul's playing his shots. A big innings on the cards for him.

He lives on the edge.

If his go to shot is the lofted cover drive against speedsters in Australia he's an idiot.

Wow, No wickets? I didnt expect this... 60-0

Rahul looks like he has been living on the edge, but more time he spends on the crease, the better for him and India.

Aussies could not capitalize while batting , now paying the price , they should have got at least 100 runs lead here

Finally. Now 2 more will come soon...

Repeat of the first innings for Vijay. If this continues then I don't think he'll be playing after this series.

One more wicket before Kohli pounds them...hopefully.

What do you make of the pitch ?

I doubt that Aus can chase 250+ here. It's turning from some spots and a bit uneven bounce.

India just need to not gift wicket and they should win. Lyon can pick wickets quickly here. Vijay was more equipped to deal with Lyon and got out with poor shot. India still in a good position, but 2 quick wickets here will bring Aus back.

Lyon needs to bowl in same area. Rahul needs to go quickly otherwise his quick scoring will take the game away.

That is the best way he should be playing. He is not a player who should play defensive cricket.

That's true. he should play his shots and I think if he stays for a while Aus will be too far behind in game. Rahul playing reverse is making it hard for Lyon to use that rough.

Wow, India in a great position here. Their match to lose.

Lyon needs to have patience here. Wickets will come.

2 more wicket here and Aus will be in good position.

that spot outside right handers off is really making the ball turn very sharply .
