Bangladesh tour of the West Indies (2022)

Seems a pretty poor batting effort today from the Windies.

You should not win if you drop these amount of catches...shows how poor windies are

West Indies finish at 149/9 after 41 overs.

BD need 150 runs to win from 41 overs.

Innings break.

BD - 53/2 (9 overs; target: 150).

WI 149/9 (41)
BAN 59/2 (9.5) CRR: 6 REQ: 2.92
Bangladesh need 91 runs - Match reduced to 41 overs due to wet outfield

BD on track at the moment so some good news coming their way soon.

Not sure why part-timer Pooran is bowling. West Indies should bowl their main bowlers here.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shoriful Islam combined for seven wickets as Bangladesh drew first blood in their ODI series against West Indies.

With veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan sitting out the 50-over component of Bangladesh's tour of the Caribbean against West Indies, it was left to their more than handy supporting cast to fill the void in Guyana.

Winning the toss and fielding first at Providence Stadium was extremely helpful for the visitors, as West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals and only crawled to 149/9 in a match that was reduced to 41 overs per side due to a wet outfield in the morning.

That was never going to be enough, with skipper Tamim Iqbal (33) getting the visitors off to a fast start and Mahmudullah (41*) using all his experience to ensure Bangladesh drew first blood in the three-match ODI series.

The hosts swept the two-match Test series against Bangladesh 2-0 and much was expected of them in the 50-over format given they won the T20I leg of the series via the same scoreline.

But West Indies failed to shine after being sent into bat first in Providence, with three of their top six batters unable to reach double figures.

No.3 Shamarh Brooks top-scored for West Indies with an overly cautious 33 and their total may have been even less if not for an unbeaten final-wicket stand of 39 between Anderson Phillip (21*) and Jayden Seales (16*) at the end of their innings.

Mehidy steps up for Bangladesh

Emerging spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the hero for Bangladesh with a brilliant spell that netted 3/36 and the 24-year-old was deservedly named Player of the Match.

Mehidy removed dangerous West Indies opener Kyle Mayers during his opening spell and then returned later on to claim the vital scalps of Rovman Powell (9) and West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran (18) to give Bangladesh the ascendancy.

It wasn't just with the ball that Mehidy impressed, with the Bangladesh off-spinner also picking up a catch at backward point and a brilliant run out to cap off a tremendous individual performance.

It boggles my mind how a team can be terrible in 2 formats of the game while being very competitive against the best in the ODI format. Someone needs to do a case study of the Bangladesh cricket team. Would be quite interesting to read it.

In T20: can't keep the short burst of performance going - about a 140-160 run team at best (in good days).
In Odi: very competitive. No team probably feels like they will walk over them.
In Test: Can't keep the intensity going for 5 straight days - other than a rare win here and there.

BD is poor in T20 because it doesn’t have power hitters. In T20 you can’t win by scoring ones and twos alone. You need to hit regular fours and some sixes .

ODI suits Bangladesh currently.

20-30 overs of spin + Mustafiz + Taskin + Shoriful = okay bowling attack in ODI.

Batting needs work though.

West Indies have been very poor in ODI for the past few years.

Their team suit T20 only.

Not sure why they started off with Mosaddek. This guy is a part-timer.

This is not T20.
