People would laugh at you if you speak 'proper english' in real life and i am talking about hindi speaking people. They will call you a weirdo. lol

Same with Urdu and other languages including even English, in normal life you never speak 'properly'.

Good point.

You`re effectively back to the middle ages/early 1900s if you wanna speak proper English, Hindi, Urdu.

Im pretty sure that none of Tamil, Gujrati or other languages are "proper" anymore since you`ll always find borrowed words from other languages, cultures.

what the hell...how is bollywood Indian cinema...when you have equally good industries in tamil/telugu and malyalam...and a rich bengali cinema and growing punjabi and kannada...being united does not mean not celebrating diversities...remember by saying bollwood is indian cinema...you are ignoring the industry that has given Rahman,Ilayaraja,Kamal Haasan, Mohan lal...sridevi ..maniratnam...Sp balasubrahmanyam...yesudas...even aishwarya...Ram gopal varma...raajev menon...list of legends is endless. So please...

They have all moved over to the Indian film industry from the regional cinema so respect to them.

You are mixing up regional cinema with national Navroks. How many Punjabi movies does a Tamil watch and vice versa?

But they ALL watch Bollywood. Is it because Bollywood is the best? Or is it because Bollywood is basically our Indian film industry?

Bro, there is no way of doing this in which regional bias comes out on top. Fact of the matter is Hindi cinema/Hindi news/ Hindi being the official language of the government apart from English all point out one thing.

One thing that wikipedia and constitution won't tell because people out there have been fed too much political crap.

There are FAR better artists in regional film industries bro. Ask Navroks!

Bollywood probably has the worst talent pool, as far as acting is concerned.

really? google market of Hindi movies in south india..it is not that high...large number of people do not watch dem!!! yes they are popular because more people know hindi than tamil and telugu...because both indistries confine to one state...does not mean you ignore them in " indian cinema"....they are as big as bollywood...with one state they collect close to 100 crores...do you can understand the impact on the audience...unlike bollywood on precentage who watch it in the audience it appeals to is far less..

If proper hindi is the same as that spoken in Ramayan tv series then its very difficult to understand many things even though u get the plot.

Agreed, its quite easy to understand what they are saying if you know urdu or punjabi. Used to watch Ramayan series when i was kid.

Getting it completely wrong. Have you thought for a moment why all those 'GREAT & 'INDIAN' stars went to Bollywood? Do they look at it as another 'REGIONAL' film industry?

Those were the times man. Watched a lot of thos Ramayan, Mahabharat. :kapil

If you're smart, you can understand dutch or german as an Englishman.

Point is, we're not talking about you, we're talking about our Friend Ambi who, despite knowing Hindi, needs a dictionary to understand Bollywood movies. Not even some cinema d'auteur with complexe themes and, maybe, long speeches.

Its not much but its a lot. Google market of Tamil cinema in Punjab, you wont even get a result. This very thread is the living proof of whatever we are discussing.

Bollywood is synonymous with Indian cinema across the globe.

True..that is because of the language....does not mean it is right...and doesnt we also behave like the "globe" inspite of extra knowledge we have

nothing wrong in moving to earn more..it is not because they think bollywood is some national cinema so we must try our talent there...it is because of monetary reasons..even bollywood actors try their hand at other industries..sonu nigam, katrina, udit narayan they have worked in other industries too.

Obviously not. Are all Khans Mongol? lol

One thing I find interesting is that some rural Punjabis (mostly the gujjar ones), who have nothing to do with Pashtoos, are named Khan too. But it's pronounced differently without the ''n''. Wonder why it is so...

Are Punjabis Mongol too?

lol.

Well,

Im a punjabi named Khan(without the n), but im pretty sure that im not a mongol. :13:

You see, Many Rajputs have Khan as surnames as well.

Dont know much history on why so....

ofcourse...nothing wrong!! shreya goshal is a queen in south too ..she sings as many in south as in hindi... as you said sonu nigam sings many songs in kannada...adnan sami sings many telugu songs...point is many big wigs work on both indistries at the same time..which means south cinema is as important in indian cinema...we cannot just say bollywood is indian cinema...as FC is saying

Shreya would be a queen everywhere.

Beautiful voice

There are certain things which are just happily accepted without beating the drum. Certain issues are never addressed as aggressively as a random forumer like me would do, governments would just make little compromises here and there to keep everyone happy in their regions. Unfortunately people are giving in to British divide & rule policy and as a result regional forces are getting stronger.

F C from my child wood days i have seen actors from my state recieving national awards. They got national awards for acting in indian cinema

How much do you know about National awards? There are categories in there for each language from the 8th schedule and even from outside of it. Another classy ploy from the founders of the nation to keep all regions happy.

It would however be hard to see how a Masali can relate to Hunic ascendance (not in a pejorative manner, it just historical interest), it concerns specific casts of people and even those have mixed up with locals, therefor making it impossible to state ''Punjabis are Mongols'', same for Pashtuns.

we bengalis are artists by nature.. Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Shreya Ghosal..the best of the best..

and may be bit funny as well? I will let Pboy be the judge of it-

They had little to do with Indian SC actually, not bragging just saying.

That she is....I could marry her just for that voice !!! It is amazing how she is a bengali..but sings fluent hindi..tamil...telugu and kannada..normally when Asha bhosle or Lata try to sing tamil or Telugu...they are horrible...but shreya..she sings exactly like a Telugu/Tamil with zero pronounciatin errors....she is for me a bigger legend than Lata or Asha..or atleast will be at the end of her career!!!

My fav song of hers in Tamil..

Telugu...

Both amazing songs..she makes them ever more incredible!!!

Hmm...Really? Explain why Prakash Raj got a national award for Kanchivaram in 2008???? Kamal haasan has some 4 or 5..do you even think he got in regional cinema....as far as I know national awards for all languages...and they are not categorized!!

National award for best actor in indian cinema means what ?National award for best film means what ?

haha...i watched this season of roadies...this guy was a total nut job !!! his elimination from roadies was one the funniest ever as far as I can remember...

you and f_c are both partially right. National film awards have one award for all languages...and they also have categories for each language.. so the most prestigious is the one which has films for all languages contending for it.

They had little to do with Indian SC actually, not bragging just saying.

What I read suggests otherwise. If you're a Sikh for example, it's probable that you have more blood from Turco-Mongol tribes than Indo-aryan blood (if we consider most Sikhs to be Jutts) from 2 thousand years ago, which is represented by the local field workers in Punjab we usually call Masalis.

Then again, there is nothing proven about these matters and members who have read more about these issues than me (like Akher probably) must be able to give a more definite answer than me.

Because those traits don't come from any specific background. So stop generalizing.

sorry, saying that bengalis are in general artists doesnt mean it is exclusive only to bengalis.. in bengalis a lot of stress is put on learning an art right from childhood..classical dance, music, painting.. so i am right in generalizing.

I do not think there is a national award for best actor in Telugu...that does not make sense!!! atleast I have not heard of it..

ones that are always mentioned are the one is the one for all languages combined..when they say PRakash raj is a 2 time national award winnger or kamal is a 4 time winner...I think they are talking about all the languages ....no?

Do you know she was a participant in Zee sa re ga ma pa Juniors..and also Sa re ga ma pa seniors..and while she was participating as a senior...Sonu Nigam was the anchor of the show !!!! Even as a kid she sang beautifull....not in hindsight but you can almost say she was talented...

as a junior

yes, there is no such award..but there is a category of best feature film in telugu.. the best actor awards etc are chosen from all over and not from a language based category.

okay..that makes sense!!!

i think that is sensible to do..because while kamal hasan or mammoty etc will win the best actor award, other not so well developed industries like assamese, bhojpuri etc need some encouragement..for them there is language based categories.. just shows that these awards are TRULY national..awarding the best actor in whole of india, and also encouraging every industry, small or big.

That generalization is just not true. To say Bengalis are generally artistic would be like saying nigz are usually dumb. If its racist in a negative way, its also racist if you put it in a positive way for any community as simply put its all about an individual's inclination towards education, arts etc. More to do with the family.

Where was the general bengali stress on art and education when Eden Garden mob used to be the worst in the country?

People may not agree...but I think Lata Mangeshkar is over rated...atleast after getting old.

she has spoiled few amazing songs with her Squeaky kind of voice...for example... Lukka Chuppi From Rang De basanti...it is an amazing song...but I think it would have been more awesome if it was sung by any other...

you seldom agree with me, but i am not like you..and i agree 100%.. she might be good in her youth but since she made her comeback with DDLJ, she has ruined many songs with her squeaky and sugar syrup voice...i can barely tolerate her voice.

Came across this video in related...I have watched this before...Just sharing it with people

Ilaiyaraja creates a whole song on just three notes( Sa ri ga )...and SP Balasubrahmanyam and Shreya Goshal sing it.....SPB/Ilaiyaraja in Tamil and Shreya sings the telugu version...along with whole orchestra in 3 notes.....Great stuff from Legend Ilaiyaraja !!!! Shreya still holds her forte even among two of the biggest musical legends in the country..

It's not all about the quality of the voice, over time people also form some kind of association with certain voices. Lata ji's voice has a certain impact on people who have been listening to her for so long. She is iconic and whatever she sings becomes special, 50% because the great lady herself graced the song with her legendary voice.

I can't imagine anyone else singing 'Luka Chhupi' and 'Vande Mataram' apart from Lata Mangeshkar. Luka Chhupi in particularly being a motherly song, you can't have a 30 year old sister singing it. Lata ji pours all her affection and mother like feeling into it.

Same with Vande Mataram, that's your Mother India right there singing the patriotic song.

i dont have to convince you.. but your comparison is wrong.. there is nothing racial about it, i never said it is because of bengali genes.. but it is all cultural. bengali parents put a lot of stress on their children to learn some kind of art.. this is a fact, whether you like or not. chinese and japanese parents send their kids to learn violin and piano from childhood..you will see most violin prodigies from these countries.. back in india, most ias officers are biharis..because their families put a lot of stress for these jobs.. many communities have some chosen field where they like to do well..so stop making a social phenomena as something racist.

regarding eden gardens, who said that art and education can make you peaceloving, and how do you know those who did the violence were taught some art?? you are just trying too hard but come with something better!!

anyway......back to bollywood discussion...the music of race 2 is quite disapointing.......badly missing katrina's ''touch me touch me ,kiss me kiss me''

To have Lata Mangeshkar singing Vande Mataram instead of Shreya Ghoshyal is like Tendulkar hitting the winning run instead of a Yuvraj slog sweep six. Understand the feel behind it. :)

haha..I said before man...I agree with you in many things !!! and I am glad we are on same page on this...many people feel almost blasphemous whem I criticize Bharata Ratna Lata Mangeshkar...Sure was an incredible singer in youth..no doubt !!! but lately..last decade or so..she has spoilt many songs....

Yeah.

Be Intehaan was the only good song IMO(Not because of Atif)

Allah Duhai new version was awful.

Lat lag gaye was okay.

Party on my mind was atrocious!

Not disagreeing with the emotion ...I guess you are right !!! but for somebody who is not associated with Lata Ji's songs ...that was my opinion !!! if you put it this way ..you are right !!! she is ofcourse one of our biggest musical legends.....

Lat Lag gaye is strangely addicting....I like Be Intehan also...

Allah Dullai..the old version was better...

Part on my mind is meh...

Race album was awesome....Pehli Nazar...zara zara..Race sanson ki....Kwab Dekhe...Zara Zara..are all the songs which I still hear !!! not listening Race 2 after a month..except Lat lag gaye...

No hopes on the movie too...strangely not enough promotion either!!!!
