Karan Johar used the song in his 2012 movie Student of the Year, after licensing the song from Sa Re Ga Ma. It is now being contested by Nazia's family as they claim that HMV doesn't own the album because it was financed by them in London.

The point is he did buy the rights from whoever he figured had the rights . If Nazia's family says they do not...then the issue is between the music company and the family.

Here's the thing though, they don't claim the product to be theirs. Once they buy the rights, it's their choice to revamp it whichever way they please. If the original artist is so concerned with protecting their work, then they shouldn't sell their work in the first place but the reality is they get paid a hefty amount of sum to do so.

The problem is when the original artists don't get paid, which is then considered copying. There's a fine line but I'm pretty sure people like Pritam who have been leeching off the work of other foreign artists should be ashamed. He's a serial abuser of the CTRL+C and CTRL+V functions on the keyboard.

These guys think they can get away with stealing a classic Pakistani song so easily lol. Well, to be fair they have gotten away with it hundreds perhaps even thousands of times before. The average Indian loves to listen to Indianified Pakistani songs.

This is why Bollywood songs lyrics are cringe. No one uses words like Meheboob, Guzarish, khulasa, Muttafiq, Jannat etc in normal conversations. Thanks to the lyricists and music directors from pre-partition days, they introduced a trend and its influence can be see till today. All these Bollywood biggies and music directors and even Actors and producers are also from Pakistan originally. They encouraged the heavily arabic and farsi words in the songs.

Now it is Punjabi's turn in Bollywood songs. Every other song has Punjabi words in it. I hope they get back to Sanskrit and Prakrit words more regularly. Even South Indians will understand them.

Musician Farasat Anees accuses Indian music label T-Series of plagiarising his original Joyland song

Pakistani musician Farasat Anees has called out Indian music giant T-Series for plagiarising his song ‘BIBA,’ which was featured in film Joyland. He told Images he has the support of Indian fans as well as Pakistani fans and that T-Series has not responded to his emails calling them out.

Images has reached out to the record label for a comment.

On Wednesday, Anees shared bits of both songs for people to compare them. “What a disgrace! T-Series [is] stealing our work because it has been trending in the world. Me and my brothers, Toshi and Slick Trick, worked day and night to bring this song where it is. PLEASE HAVE SOME SHAME and stop ruining every good song from Pakistan,” he captioned his post.

He continued, “Even if you wanted to reproduce the song, you should have done [so] with [the] original stuff. [They] clearly stole chords, [the] intro [and] arrangements of our version. CLEAR THEFT! Really hoping someone responsible takes action from T-Series and I request all of our fans, friends and family to share this.”

The artist told Images that the label copied his track and are now “using bots in the OMV comments section”. He shared that they “didn’t even bother” contacting or asking him or his team for permission. For him, the similarities are far too obvious but he still listed them down, mentioning “the whole intro of my original version (instrumentation), arrangements (vocals and beat position) and tempo, key, scale and even the vocal arrangements”.

Anees said his team have reached out to T-Series via email last night but haven’t received a response yet. “I solely own 100 per cent rights of my song ‘BIBA’ (from my debut album 0FIVE1). My version has vocals by the powerful qawal duo Rizwan-Muazzam (I got their vocals from one of my sound packs),” he added.

He said fans of his version around the world are “pissed” at T-Series because of their “cheap move”. He pointed out they sadly have a history of doing this. Last year, the record label came under fire for copying Abrarul Haq’s song ‘Nach Punjaban’ and the iconic Nazia Hassan song ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’.

“I’ve been getting a lot of messages from India, hating on T-Series for [pulling] such an act since it is and has been a viral club desi hit. People now associate their lives and feelings to it,” he explained. “Fans from Pakistan are showing their support for our proud version of ‘BIBA’ [and] ranting [about] T-Series and associated artists on their cheap copy of ‘BIBA’.”

Popular Indian digital creator Diet Sabya and singer Annural Khalid also commented on the matter and called out T-Series for “blatantly copying” the track.

The artist is disappointed that “the world’s largest YouTube channel” is acting this way and getting away with it. “[They are being so] unprofessional, [by not] letting the copyright holders know. [They have the] guts [and] audacity to release it proudly by adding some semi-nude female models to it (in its OMV),” he concluded.

Anees’ song was released two years ago and has 25 million views on YouTube whereas T-Series’ song was released on Wednesday and has amassed 1.1 million views.

Pak Music has always been superior to Indian Music. I know Rafi, Kishore, Lata and Asha were great artists nonetheless Pak kills them in Music and Drama's. After the aforementioned Indian artists passed on they have struggled to produce anyone even close to them. We must also accept that Pak has copied many Indian tunes and lyrics too.

The recreation of Ali Sethi and Shae Gill's global hit song of Pakistani origin has faced criticism from some social media users, questioning why renowned singer Arijit Singh agreed to sing the remake.

However, amidst the debate, tweets from an unverified Twitter account allegedly belonging to Arijit have gone viral, shedding light on the singer's motivations behind his decision. In these tweets, Arijit mentions a commitment made by the makers of the film to support underprivileged children through a yearly fund for a school. It must be noted that the authenticity of the account remains uncertain.

According to the viral tweet, Arijit agreed to sing the Pasoori Nu remake because the film's makers promised him a yearly fund for a school for underprivileged children. In response to a tweet that asked him why he didn't reject a song as Bollywood's top singer, the artist allegedly tweeted in response, "Well, the maker has promised me a yearly fund for a school for [the] underprivileged. That's more important. We'll bear some abuses." Another tweet reads, "The maker has promised me a yearly fund for a school for [the] underprivileged."

Bollywood is seen as the premier face of the Indian film industry. Definitely outside India. Nobody knows abt tollywood or kollywood or whatever they are called outside the areas where they are run

also if you claim that the south indian film and music industry is so much better then why has only Bollywood found success abroad? Ok I understand Pakistan due to language but even in other countries if an indian film is ever going to get famous its going to be a Bollywood film. Its not like language is a help and plays a role there

Correction - Bollywood was seen as the premier face of the Indian Film Industry but not any longer. You either have no idea of indian films or are living under a rock.

With South Indian films released all over the world in multiple languages the language barrier was overcome. Bollywood had an edge over south industry only because it had a wier audience who understood hindi/urdu unlike south films which were constrained within their states. But after being dubbed to other languages this hagemony no longer exists and teh success of Bahubali, RRR, KGF, Pushpa etc are prime examples. Today actors like NTR, Ram Charan, Yash, Allu Arjun are known even in remote villages of hindi heartland. NTR's films in fact had huge releases in Japan even before RRR.

All that bollywood does mostly are remake movies or biographies. Originality no longer exists. The current crop of bollywood directors cannot think of life outside Bandra with Karan Johar leading the pack. No wonder Zoya Akhtar is making Archies with a star cast filled with star kids and costumes and charcaters which are no way representing India of 1960s. Bollywood has a total disconnect with the audience currently.
