England struggle to 84/5 on Day 2 of the rescheduled Test against India at Edgbaston

Please discuss particular details about Bumrah in the Bumrah thread, and leave the match thread for the match.

Reminder: please stop derailing

Post deletions will be next step.

So Bumrah's wicket taking ball is the no-ball lol.

Still no play announcement!

Another umpire inspection at 5:25pm.

Surely after this if there is no decision to resume then we will be looking at stumps.

Bit of a deflating day for the viewers thus far.

Apparently the sun is out in Bham.

Wonder if we will get a 17:30-19:30 evening session.

bit of an earthy theme some of the Eng line up's last names? ...u have Root, Leach, Potts, creepy crawley , stone :)

This is unfair to English batsmen. Stop start is no good. I know Indian players had to go through this too but this is too much now. Excessive.

It can be very difficult to bat in such conditions but unfortunately it’s part of the game.

Are we gonna get any more game today if no rain comes up? The ground staff still has some work to do before we could start. And if we go into the final hour with the game still to start, they might well call it stumps.

Just watching a brilliant convo between Harsha, sanjay and the ex fielding coach of india - Sridhar - fantastic info on fielding...

Drainage at Edgbaston perhaps requires improvement. It’s not exactly been shedding it down at any point, and these have been long breaks today.

England has the weakest top 3 barring the minnows. Crawley keeps getting chances after chances, take out his 267 against Pakistan and his stats are ten times ordinary.

I think cutrent india batting is as bad if not worse.
Gill is an average talent as an opener. He may be better in MO
Pujara is old. Kohli is not the same

Lot of Indian fans crying about no KL rahul and rohit. Really? You think they would have added more than the openers india had for this game? In these conditions? Rohit is known for struggling vs swing.
KL got out to boult. Anderson would do the same.

Rohit averaged 50+ and scored a hundred in the first four tests of this series. Rohit opening and Pujara at 3 would've been a lot better for sure.

Root has a start. Bairstow looks uncertain

Yeah I think they were superb last English summer and we would have done a lot better.

Great battle this between Shami/Bumrah versus Root/Bairstow.

Test cricket at its best.

Shami needs to turn up more often or needs to be replaced. Strays down leg and gets clipped off way too often.

This Indian attack is so so good. The skill set is top top draw. As a unit I'd say their equal to Aussies? Or maybe Australia with Cameron Green may just have the edge?

No doubt about it. Frightening thing is India have barely played any meaningful cricket leading up to this test, yet their bowling looks so impressive.

Crickey, what more do you want, every ball seems to be a dynamite, and I've not seen Root challenged recently like this!

Brute of a ball by Siraj miyan. Need to blast out the gingers now in quick succession.

England all over the place. Can barely get bat to ball. And now Leach batting at 6 to try and shield Stokes? England getting their rear ends absolutely handed to them in this match. The bowling is way way too good.

Cricket needs to be flexible. Its so bright out there, why not extend close of play time and make up for lost overs?

Bairstow milking an injury to try and eat up some time.

Leach won’t last long here

Why isn't Stokes in the middle? Or maybe Leach is in as night watchman.

As for Root's dismissal, what a brute of a delivery from Siraj!

India should win from now on. This is fierce bowling attack from India.

That is a regulation catch he put down. Kohli and drops. Can't believe how many drops he has at Test level.

Really poor effort from Kohli in slips, yet again.

Not only he can't bat, he can't even catch. That's been a recurring theme with him for last few years.

5-odd overs to be bowled before stumps. Would be so nice to snare Bairstow before that.

Kohli can’t do a thing right, time to go back to Ranji maybe?

No more luck for Leach, Shami gets him caught behind.

Oh thank god that drop didn’t cost us, the way England are playing where the opposition’s tailenders score and then next day you are 5 down coz rain etc , I recall for years India being like that.

Kohli can’t do a thing right, time to go back to Ranji maybe?
Lol, never ever. His ego is too big for that to happen.

Never seen such an egoistic person in my life.

Bumrah brings himself in for probably the last over of today.

Looks beautiful and they are going off. They could have easily played another 45 mins to make up for the lost time.

I'm a Dilliwala and have lived all my life in Delhi. However, this is true.
JaDed Kohli is yesterday's news. But how good has Jasprit been as skipper? Make him permanent test captain I say!

It is a travesty they leave the field in bright sunshine. I am sure nobody will complain (except may be English batsmen).

Not the performance or tactics. Seems like a natural leader and looks calm and composed and we need a character like that.
Yeah, that's true about Bumrah. Never gets angry or flustered.

Only time I saw him angry on a cricket field was last year in England.

Lots of India’s wins over the last few have been because the likes of pant or jadeja can actually bat- somehow we need to install this kind of cricket (ing) philosophy into Pakistan. At the end of the day, whoever scores the most runs wins

And Bumrah isn't laidback or someone who waits for things to happen.

However this is just his first day as a test captain on the field. We may have to wait for some while to form an opinion about his leadership qualities.
