England struggle to 84/5 on Day 2 of the rescheduled Test against India at Edgbaston

I think we would have won 2018 South Africa test series if Pant was part of it! We had Saha & harmless Partiv Patel in that series. Even Jadeja was perhaps missing in those matches (Ashwin was preferred)! I remember that series was all about Run Rate shoot out. And India (courtesy: Pujara) faced more overs than South Africa in most innings, but scored less and eventually lost with small margins! Pant would definitely have made a difference there (I know he couldn't do much in the last South Africa series though he scored a century but that series was different with different demands)

Series is done.

Only question is whether it'll be 2-1 or 3-1.

Congratulations to all my fellow Indian fans on another great series win. :moyo2

Far from over. India need to bowl them out first. Root and stokes still left.

I think he will be first to drop out next time a bowler gets dropped. Anderson is still leading the attack with high quality, and Potts has bags of potential. J Overton also adds a lot with the bat. Moreover these three (whether they have a good or bad day) all put in loads of effort. Whereas Stuart sometimes looks like he isn’t even taking the match seriously…

Think it's the end of the road for Broad.

Potts bowled too much tripe yesterday. Too full and too wide more often than not.

Ollie Robinson was pretty good last year. Any idea when he's be fit again?

Weather is too dicey for the next two days as well. There definitely won't be enough time left for England to score 550+ , and then skittle India out under 130.

And even if the weather holds up, there is no way on earth England are getting too close to 416 against this Indian bowling attack.

Resumption time: 15:15 local time | 19:45 IST. Play will now be extended even beyond the already-extended 7pm local time to 7:11pm local time now (11:41pm IST).

Junaids must be proud of Bumrah’s runs today his fav tailenders making runs.

My worry from Bumrah is that he'll overbowl himself now that he is captain.

Joe root looks in ominous form. Been middling all thats thrown at him. What a super streak he is on since 2021 - genius!!
if we knock over Root quick we have a gr8 chance

Bumrah and Shami have looked stellar. The only English bowler in their class is Anderson (and possibly a fit on form Archer)

Shami is very very good.
Bumrah, until I see the lab results that confirm hypertension, is not bowling legally

A left hander who leaves a huge gateway between bat & pad, and two right handers who are very flirty drivers.

Key technical deficiencies of the England top order exposed in all three dismissals.

It has happened twice in this innings that due to Bumrah's no-ball, an extra ball had to be bowled which fetched wickets of first Crawley and now Pope.

Also with Thakur in the Indian innings.

Yeah, for me the best bowling pair of their generation. Great to watch, too. This is a totally different game compared to NZ's attack.

The current overhead conditions make facing them even more difficult, but I think that England would be in a not dissimilar position either way.

A strange match for no balls. 14 no balls in the Indian innings and already 4 in the English innings. Something odd going on with the run ups and/or the landing point.

There's better calibre people sitting in better qualified seats than you who've given their approval over his action. Get over it m8 - sour grapes & the rest of it.

More like familiar culprits repeat their mistakes. If you notice most noballs were delivered by Stokes, Bumrah.

I thought ball would go soft and batsmen would thrash the bowlers after rain? lol Someone tossed out that theory casually after Pant's blitz.

Root is playing Bumrah with ease. Ominous signs for us.

Bumrah especially has been serial no-balls bowlers in all formats. English bowlers used to be very disciplined in this regard.

It is Root or bust here. He’s the number one player in the world and surely the only batter in the England team who is capable of getting a hundred in these bowling friendly conditions against such a good Indian attack.

HE is the best Test batsman in the world by some distance and in his best phase of his career playing against one of his favorite side. This was not totally unexpected

I wouldn't have bothered replying to you had you not mention "sour grapes".

Commentators, experts will never ever try and kill the golden goose

If we can at least take out Bairstow and Stokes as Root seems to be immovable object.

True. The cricketing world should show proofs of a legal action to Ppers before we can accept his record. :moyo

We need to string out a few dot deliveries especially against Bairstow.

apart from bouncy conditions, root is the best batsman i have ever seen alive.

what a class player root is. india should just bowl outside off vs him. channel ball. nothing else.

Root reminds me of Sachin Tendulkar of 1990s. So much similarities, even their bowling as well. Like Tendulkar, Root has got different variations in his bowling.

For me it's border line atleast. It needs a independent bio mechachnics test on him, I'm not convinced at all that Bumrah has a clean action.

Australia bullied Root by hanging the ball outside off stump consistently. But that was on their hard wickets with some high release bowlers bowling very fast. This current version
of Root has few weaknesses to exploit.

Rain again. Disappointing is this. Been a relatively low amount of rainfall since the beginning of the cricket season, but in this (the marquee Test) we are having frequent weather interruptions.

India keep having good mini sessions where they sneak a wicket and then their bowlers get another little rest. Lol

A beautiful batsmen - there have been better runscorers though. Sachin, Smith etc

Root is having a fantastic purple patch but so did Viv and Smith amongst 'modern era' players - and they succeeded in all conditions with no Australia size holes in their resumes

There is a child like innocence in Bumrah whenever he takes a wicket. So refreshing to see.

he is chucking as much as shoaib. i think starc chucks more than jazprit.

Yes thank you.
As a fan of cricket I would like to see the reports, otherwise there is far too much hypocrisy around this.
Only takes one person, on member of PP to question it.
So please post the results of his test

i know. but the amount of time he has to play shots is incredible. thakur owned him several times btw. bumrah did too before. hazelwood made him his bunny. cummins had success too.

to watch him bat though is so exciting. he is so pleasing to the eye. most technically correct player i have ever seen.

he does chuck a little but within the allowed limits. just like starcy does.

Not even close.
The videos they showed on Sky Sports around an hour ago, I'm sorry but I don't think any fast bowler was like that.

Rain break is ideal for India, hopefully not a long one. Only way I see Root's focus getting disturbed and we might luck out once players return.

I am not really fearing Bairstow against our attack. But only if they stick to their strengths, if they try to intimidate him with short stuff, he could well take them on too. Bairstow is technically very poor, so just keep it up and let conditions expose his bazballs.

watch shaheen bowl closely. he looks like a chucker. just as much as this jazprit. all bowlers chuck a little for effort balls.
shaheen always wears full sleeves too? why? to hide the chucking?
husnain was a definite chuck. shaheen and jaz dont look too obvious. i am sorry.

The moment Bumrah starts picking wickets, he becomes a chucker and the usual suspects come out asking for "reports" and "results" just because they're salty that he's pulling India into winning positinst.

Happened at Centurion, before that at Lords and then now again. :91:

Once a chucker, always a chucker.

starc actually chucked and remodelled btw.
i feel shaheen and jazprit chuck a little but within limits.
as for anyone else.

anyway even if they were chucking, nothing will be done. no one is going to say a word to bumrah, shaheen. they can only pick on average players like husnain.
what are we going to do about it? nothing

Golden Goose, hyper extension, sour grapes - yati yati yah. End of the day he's fab. Does'nt slegde. Plays with a smile. Plays in the demeanour and spirit you'd want any young kid to emulate. Is good for the game. take it in your pipe and smoke it m8's - and use the best waking hours for something +ve other than test results.

Things are so predictable over here it's actually sad and hilarious at the same time. :91:

I've seen similar footage of Shaheen, and it's the flick of his wrist not the arm.
Having said that I am all for him getting checked too.

Hasnain bowled in international cricket for three years before being called in Australia.
Many people were surprised as it never looked like he was chucking but this may have been because it was only when he bowled the bouncer that he was bending the elbow.

rabada and jas are my favourites to watch now. amazing cricketers.

King jimmy at 40 doing the business legitimately

Test them all then

Shaheen too

rabada
cummins
anderson
hazlewood
shami
lockie

these players have beautiful actions. perfect action. rabada in particular. poetry in motion. just beautiful. aesthetically the best to watch. steyn in the past.

How is it "chucking" if it's within the limits? At least read and try to comprehend what you're writing before hitting submit. :)

You shouldn't take things so personally

within the 15 degree limit. he does chuck on occasion. Look man, i got no problem with jas's action. I should have rephrased. I am not accusing him of chucking. he does bend within limits.

Please discuss particular details about Bumrah in the Bumrah thread, and leave the match thread for the match.

Yep agreed. Anderson has the most beautiful action for me. Part of having a great action is avoiding injuries and he is number 1. Early Cummins was a bit all of the place which lead to injuries but now it is much nice. Curtly had a beautiful action as well and was largely injury free

Tea will be taken at 16:30, so there will be no resumption until 16:50. This is rain-permitting.

My brother... it's not considered chucking if the elbow extends within 15° to the arm before straightening. So if you think Bumrah isn't crossing that limit, he ain't chucking as well. Simple logic. You can't just say "he chucks on occasion" and then say "I'm not accusing him of chucking" a moment later. Do you even realize how dumb that sounds?

Remind me to order you some tissues from Amazon this Christmas :))

Take it easy mate. Bumrah is world class and case for being the best in the world.

Another inspection at 17:00.
Not a great day of cricket.

Root is just on another level. Gotta get the engine room guys like him, bairstow stokes cheapely else if they play freely like in the NZ series -we will find our hold growing weaker.
Looked up the forecast for Birmingham and it says scattered showers for sunday and clear on monday and tuesday. Hopefully there wont be much more interruptions.

his effort ball bouncer does look suss. he chucks those over 15 degree but then so do lot of other bowlers. just from what i have seen. i like jas. i genuinely enjoy him bowl. i dont care if he chucks or not. i hope he doesnt get caught. shaheen bumrah all of them. they are all exciting for the game.

Will be interesting to see (in an interrupted game) if Eng are in a position to go for the draw under Brendon, whether they would do so.
