What's new

Brilliant fifties by Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha take Pakistan to 313/5 on Day 1 of the 1st Test against South Africa

This SA team is basically a 2 bowler attack.
Wiaan, Subrayen and Muthuswamy are all just glorified 5th bowlers.

Play without risk in 2nd session and then reap rewards in 3rd session when bowlers are tired

For the life of me, I don't understand why a third spinner like Abrar was not picked for this pitch instead of a second fast bowler

The only reason that comes to mind is nepotism...

People are overreacting. This is just the first session of Day 1.

Things can change in the new session. The same Subrayen and Muthuswamy will look like different bowlers if they pick two quick wickets anytime today.

I actually like Abdullah Shafique a lot

I think he is technically sound

But the technique has to be proven by the results too

He is justifying criticism on him by not performing. One has to perform otherwise should be replaced.

I don't think this pitch will deteriorate that dramatically. This is not the type of pitch we saw in the West Indies series. Unless Pakistan play really poor cricket, Day 1 is the best time to bat and there is no reason why you shouldn't reap the benefits.

County experience seems to have helped Shan and Imam. Is Imam trying to come back into ODI side as well. May be T20 side as well ?

How does that mean pitch is a road??
Misbah scored a 50 ball 100 on a spinning track also
Misbah's 58 ball 100 was on a road tbf. Still a great innings though.

This pitch is a spin track. SA is just bowling poorly. Their bowling way too quick and turn away from the batsmen doesnt seem to be affecting imam or shan.

Both are cutting it on the offside beautifully.

Yeah... So far the spin has been manageable... It will turn more as the game progresses... It is pretty dry pitch so we can expect more spin
how abrasive is the surface around spinners length ? [ too early for footmarks with just 1 pacer on show ]

nothing I can see personally .. should we expect Naqvi to come at midnight & dance a bit on the pitch like the legend Afridi ?
138/1 in 39

Both players dropped by with awful shots i dont understand what is the rush
..just take singles field is half back

Not enough deception in flight from Harmer. And that's really surprising for a bowler who's picked 940 FC wickets

I would have played Abrar just like India are playing Kuldeep again in tests. Abrar would have tested South African batters on these spinning tracks.

Time to give one of these ‘uncle’ spinners a rest.

With batting till 11 , Pak may well end up over 475 .. personally would have preffered if they got bowled out around 350 !
145/1 in 43

Pak should look to bat once esp. since 90 overs are not possible on most days in home tests

Obviously Maharaj is one of the best spinners in the world, but Harmer is a very different type of bowler. He relies more on accuracy, subtle variation and the stock ball
Harmer is the successor to Graeme Swann. Just got unlucky that he didn't get to play many tests.

It's a completely senseless decision. He has played one test match since 2024. And he hasn't been a good test bowler in atleast 4 years. When the last time South Africa toured here ironically enough.
Which is why Azhar and Shan should not be the ones making the decisions. If only somehow we could get someone like Stuart Law or Simon Katich or even Paul Nixon who could actually plan and have a vision.

Looks an okay wicket, nothing too threatening.

Shan missed an arm ball and threw his wicket away as usual, looked set for a good score.
