Torres went from sensational to disaster not because he switched clubs, but because of his knee injury before the 2010 World Cup due to which he lost several yards of pace.

He was a disaster at the 2010 World Cup and he was a disaster at Liverpool in the 2010/2011 season till January.

He simply carried his post-injury poor form to Chelsea; he did NOT lose his form at Chelsea.

Fergie is biased because he coached Ronaldo into a legend. The opinion of Fergie or Guardiola on Ronaldo and Messi cannot be taken seriously because of bias. However, most of the neutral managers and players from other teams rate Messi higher than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo might beat Messi in terms of longevity, but he will never reach the peak of Messi.

He doesnt need to he has passed it already.

As for Torress he went down hill, mainly because he wasnt playing with Gerrad, this is a fact. There whole team was built around them two. After he just lost confidence and got worse.

Which world class players did he play with at MU?

He had a midfield of Carrick (was very mediocre in those days), Flecthure, Anderson, Cleverly and Park.

Stop kidding yourself, Messi would be exposed in such a team.

Yeah right, I'm kidding myself:narine

Nice of you that you only mentioned the average teammates of Ronaldo (with some twisting of facts).

Cleverley began to start regularly for the United senior team only from 2010. You very well know where Ronaldo was then.

Anderson hardly was a regular starter. Only played about one season with Ronaldo, that too mostly from the bench.

You have conveniently ignored the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Nani, Nistelrooy, Tevez, Berbatov, Saha, Rooney, all of whom were good to great players.

If he didn't play with any world class players at Manchester United, then how did he manage to win 3 PL titles and 1 CL title with the same team. Don't tell me hell did it all by himself.

And how in the world did Messi manage to become the top scorer for the national team if he will get "exposed" in a different setup?

Anderson had two good seasons and played regularly with Ronaldo, then injury struck and he was never the same :(

Anderson and Park were pretty good players in their own right.

I remember Park having a huge stamina and used to run around the park without breaking a sweat for 90 mins. Wasn't called "Three lung Park" for nothing.

1. I was talking about MF which i clearly mentioned, but if you want to add disastrous Berbatov, mediocre Saha and average Tevez then you still are not doing yourself any favors.

2. You can add Scholes and Giggs or any other players but towards the end of his time at MU they didnt feature much and Ronaldo was still sensational with a very average MF

3. Anderson was a starter in 2009, he played in both CL finals with him and started in one.

4. No he didnt win it all himself, his manager did, who did it again and again without world class players, he even won the PL playing Cleverly and Anderson in CM, what to say more.

Messi won the player of the World Cup (although James deserved it ahead of him) and was clearly one of the best players in the tournament.

So when you say he was 'crap' in the World Cup, it shows your lack of credibility as far as this topic is concerned.

He wasn't one of the best players. He was average throughout the WC.. few lucky goals against weak opposition and in knockout stages, he did absoultey nothing.. and by calling him one of the best player in the WC you lost any credibility you had..

Come on, it's not like Ronaldo played for Blackburn Rovers in the PL or Granada in the La liga. He was surrounded by world class players at Manchester United and is surrounded by world class players at Madrid as well.

ya but he is not surrounded by Suarez or Neymar type of players..

LOL - I remember when he was announced as the player of the world cup, even the commentators where shocked. Anyway it doesn't really matter as it was decided by the sponsors for marketing reasons, even fool knew he had a bad tournament.

Messi's crowning glory was winning a medal for Argentina in an amateur tournament :yk2, that's what footballers are ultimately remembered for; what they did for their country at the international level.

Look like new hair colour not working for Maradonna wannabe? London_Lahori he hit post vs the great liverpool at the wembley :yk

He's going through an early mid life crisis. Tax issues, jail terms, missed pens and choking finals. It must be tough tbh.

Barcelona director got sacked for saying this:

As earlier reported by ESPN, Gratacos said: “Leo is one of the most important people in the team, but it’s not just about him.
“He would not be as good without [Andres] Iniesta, Neymar and company, but Messi is the best.”

A statement from Barcelona read: “FC Barcelona dismisses Pere Gratacós as head of Sports Institutional Relations with the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

“Pere Gratacós has been dismissed after being responsible for Sporting Institutional Relations of FC Barcelona with the Spanish Football Federation for having publicly expressed a personal opinion that does not coincide with that of the Institution after the draw for the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup Held today in Madrid.

:))) Gratacos knows what's up but he had to go because much like the rest of his followers, Messi's threw a hissy fit when faced with the truth given his insecurity. Messi is the most over protected footballer in history. This thread is evidence, also notice the sore loser mentality of folk much like Messi.

Doesn't exactly fit with the humble Messi and arrogant Ronaldo picture they try and paint, does it?

Funny thing is, he even said he's the best player in the world but his team mates have helped him get there. But nope, Messi throws a hissy fit over it.

Not only does Messi throw a hissy fit over it, he allows someone with a family and kids to get fired! I have many enemies as you would know Lahori but I'd never take food out of the mouths of my enemey and their kids dammit! that is inhumane on every level imaginable, who could do such a thing? Messi despite lacking skill remains an influential figure and for him to damage someones reputation in this fashion will also prevent opportunities in the future, absolutely disgraceful stuff!

Of course, it was Messi who threw a "hissy fit". I wonder who's your inside source at the club... :13:

At the end of the day, their footballing displays speak volumes, and I'm afraid only one player has a tendency to sulk when a teammate outshines him on the pitch. Hint: It's not the assist machine. :messi

Embarrassing to compare the two, there's a reason why the majority (including Ronaldos own countrymen) consider Messi better. You just need eyes to see the huge gulf. It's the equivalent of comparing Kohli to KW In LOIs.

Forever in Messi's shadow, it must drive Ronaldo nuts.

All the trophies in the world can't make up for the massive gulf in class and ability.

Also recall how insecure and pathetic Messi is by not attending that ceremony because he is a sore loser that is jealous of Ronaldo being far superior then him, so insecure much like all his fans

Messi own countryman vandalise and destroy his statue :))
And Ronaldo's own countrymen consider Messi the much better footballer :ronaldo

There's a reason why Messi's shadow is a thing, but don't be disappointed, there always has to be a number two for the best :messi

A Ballon d'or on Ronaldo (should be two, he performed much better than Ronaldo) despite being 2 years younger than him. He can poach every goal that comes his way, but he will never be in Messi's league.

Forever in Leo's shadow :)

I really didn't know Messi won so many accolades:(

All I have seen is Messi playing in a particular team in a particular style that fits the players & the league. The man who is credited for unleashing Messi is finding it a bit out of depth in other clubs with bottomless pocket.

Don't flatter yaar, but yes; I genuinely believe 10 years later people will remember CR of MU, CR or Real & CR of Pourtugal more than Messi of Barca. How many even recalls George Wiah now?

Also, from the Euro Final, I can categorically tell that this guy is going to management, may be at Real or MU & he'll be one of the most successful one.

Some people are born achievers, for that they get negative publicity more. What I can see is Messi gets lots of sympathy vote for his fruitless heroics in that Arges side, which was/is good enough to win 3/4 global events by now if there was a character like CR in that team.

Am not sure why people repeatedly overlook that point, it's arguably Arges greatest team ever which Maradona would have loved to have been a part off. No doubt he would do well in management but I get the feeling he may want to relax once he retires, am not sure if he'd be linked to football on a big scale maybe as a part time consultant

Ronaldo isn't even the best player in his team :))

There's a reason why the majority compare Messi with Pele and Maradona, while Ronaldo is only compared to Messi.

Bale is the reason why Real Madrid have 2 CL titles, not Ronaldo. He couldn't win them anything till Bale arrived.

It was a joke for him to win the Ballon d'or.

Complete fraud who uses his PR machine to win the Ballon d'or and be compared to Messi.

Comparing Ronaldo to Messi is like comparing Root to Kohli.

My favorite comment

Tbh needs us more than we need him. We're his only way to win another Ballon d'Or.

Ronaldo's PR team going to have to work over time to win another Ballon d'or :))

If the award went to the best player, Messi would have won ever year. He's the best footballer on the planet by a country mile.

Yes, yes, Ronaldo was the only one to take his team to the World Cup final... oh wait, has he even scored in a World Cup? :irfan

In the World Cup, i.e. the biggest stage, Messi has 5 goals and 3 assists in 15 caps compared to Ronaldo's 3 goals and 2 assists from 13 caps. Wonder which of them pads their stats by virtue of goals in friendlies... :yk2

All said and done, both have underachieved to some extent in international football, which is probably due to club football being prioritised far more highly than ever in the current era.

But but ronaldo has won an international trophy arguably the second biggest trophy after world cup

Ronaldo

Friendlies 14
UEFA Euro 9
UEFA Euro qualifying 20
FIFA World Cup qualification 24
FIFA World Cup tournaments 3
Total 70

Moreover ronaldo is not surrounded by players in the likes of Di maria, higuain, dybala, mascherano, romero, zabaleta, otamendi ,aguero, lavezzi etc

Wrong. Messi was playing in those games. Ronaldo was stretchered off in the final and therefore unable to impact it. May seem harsh, but it is what it is. At the most, you can credit him for taking his team to the Euro final.

Tbh Argentina are better off without Messi. Maybe if Messi wasn't playing they'd have won the WC, they did beat Chile in the Copa America group stage without Messi but couldn't repeat the trick when he was in the side.

Ronaldo captained Portugal to international success, he walked up there picked up the trophy and Messi fans aside is known for bringing Portugal its first major trophy.

What's Messi known for at International level? Bottling 4 finals with 0 goals :))) :))) :))) :)))

Exactly, I was thinking the same :)) they know that Messi's greatness is in doubt deep down so are constantly trying to come up with all these outrageous theories to say he's the best with some nonsensical fans suggesting he's greater then Pele as well lmao

They'd have won Copa America without him and if you know anything about football you'd know all teams struggle to play away to Bolivia due to the high altitude.

Not true. Higuain, in particular, always bottles it, with or without Messi. I remember Messi had set it up on a plate for him in the Copa final, but he bottled an easy finish. Argentina's big names like Aguero also tend to flop at international level. Messi and di Maria are probably their best offensive players and their only real hope of a trophy at this point.

Messi would have two international trophies and be the undisputed GOAT, if Higuain could finish.

Which he wasn't on the field to even win :)))

You would have given Messi the same grief if he was in Ronaldo's place, and I would have agreed. Wasn't on the field when the game was won. He did nothing in the Final, but that's nothing new for Ronaldo. We've seen him in Finals before.

Yes, Gonzalo Higuain with 281 career goals and signed last year for £75M can't finish, because Messi fans say so.

Messi has destroyed Real today. Got Ramos sent off and should've had Casemiro sent off multiple times.

King Messi burns Madrid into the ground.

The GOAT. Wipes the floor with Ronaldo. Only deluded Man United fans and salty Real Madrid fans think otherwise. You don't need to win a World Cup when you are King Messi.

Messi's last-gasp strike was his 500th Barcelona goal. What a dagger in the hearts of Real Madrid!
Another great victory at the Bernabeu, Barcelona's training ground. :aag
