What's new

England [277 & 361/5d] beat Windies [154 & 252] by 232 runs in the third Test, WI win series 2-1

These two batsmen at crease are best of WI , they need to play well here and get some runs.

BBC : Jos Buttler has dropped 10 of the 22 chances that have come his way since he returned to the Test side this summer.

fantastic , he is the 5th best batting option we have in England besides his keeping ability if Foakes our best keeper & Bairstow our 2nd best keeper break a hand or leg :)

England made right selections & for the first time their batting & bowling clicked in the series so now windies are on the edge of defeat despite playing 7 batsmen & yes they are also missing their 8th batsman holder.

You are missing the point. They missed bowlers not batsmen in the earlier match. It is the batting the let them down not the bowling. Wood's presence would not have made any difference with their batting. You cannot hide behind Mark wood for getting bowled out for 77 runs and two other sub par scores.

Truth.

classic case of butchering the job at hand dreaming about future my English friend Robert :)

I can assure you that the England players are trying to win every match.

while the expert commentators including past players talk mostly about Ashes as if THE current series is a minor nuisance . I am convinced by the 2-1 result , moral victory & selection policy obviously aimed at the larger & relevant picture which is ASHES :thumbsup

That's what I said in my post above. For the first time England's batting clicked in the series. I didn't meant that improvement is due to mark wood.
You specifically made dig at England playing 8 batsmen in last 2 tests I just made defending argument that west indies also played as much batsmen as England in every match. In the first two test Their batting clicked England's didn't.

It is clicking coincidentally with the absence of Holder in a dead rubber.

Talking about Ashes when they get canned in a series is the favorite of way English commies to heal themselves lol. It is always the case. Australians rarely do that. They value every series. They rarely talked about Ashes during Indian or SL series.

I’s say this series is a process goal. The Ashes is the big objective this year. Positives toward the Ashes include the re-emergence of Wood, Broad getting his groove back and Moeen’s advance as frontline spinner.

Roston Chase scoring some timely runs.

He has been totally out of form since his heroics in the Pakistan series.

Ian Chappell to Kim Hughes: “Lose to West Indies if you have to. Lose to India if you really must. But whatever you do, don’t lose to England”.

Roston Chase is far too inconsistent. On his day he is brilliant but he doesn’t put these performances regularly which hurts Windies. Chase and Hope overall have been pretty disappointing in tests.

Hosts playing like visitors finally .
The most pleasant part of this series were the pitches , conducive to bowling .
The most irritating part of the series was every single English commentator & expert on TV & BBC talking about Ashes right from day 1 of first Test till to date as if being rubbished 2-0 & the series at hand did not matter .

My theory is that it's to do with TV rights.

Sky will pay over the odds just to keep the home Ashes series exclusive to them. The Ashes is what drives the ratings and is when the general public tune in.

Played England. Could have succumbed to 0-3 really easily.

England are the new Pakistan. I've no idea which side will turn up - is it the team that beats India 4-1 and whitewashes Sri Lanka away, or the team that loses to West Indies 2-1 ?

That scoreline hides more than it shows.Except one test they were in a position to lose all the remaining 4 test despite winning all 5 tosses. Inspite of that but for sam curran's couple of late order fifties India would have comfortably won 3-2. Injuries and dropping of Pujara for a test didn't help either.

I love how indian fans keep using injuries and tosses as excuses for losing to england. Hilarious stuff.

Don't care if you find it hilarious. I will be shocked if you don't find it hilarious lol. Point was about how England 4-1 didn't mean they were way better than India so much so that they were expected to run over every other side in the world.

The home attack is easy to pick. The away one was arrived at too late and by accident.

Big big series win for WI

Hopefully this will bring a new crop of WI classy players

James Anderson, Moeen Ali help England to crushing win

James Anderson and Moeen Ali both picked up three wickets each to help England to a crushing 232-run win in the third Test against Windies in St Lucia.

Despite an excellent unbeaten hundred by Roston Chase, much of the Windies batting line-up crumbled in trying to chase a mammoth target of 485, helping England finish the series with a consolation victory.

England began the morning in a hurry to declare with the bat, having finished the previous evening with a lead of 448 runs. The third ball of the day, which saw Ben Stokes slap Kemar Roach down the ground for four, signalled the intent of the visitors, who were looking to finish the red-ball leg of their tour on a high.

While Joe Root starred on day three with his 16th Test hundred, it was Stokes (48*) who was at the forefront of England’s brief attack in the opening session, treating Roach to a pulled six over the leg side. Root (122) eventually fell clipping a full toss into the hands of Shimron Hetmyer at short mid-wicket, and with his departure called for the declaration.

As ever, Anderson was lethal with the new ball. John Campbell flashed hard at his first ball faced, only to see Moeen take a stunning diving catch at gully. Kraigg Brathwaite (8) and Darren Bravo’s (0) outside-edges were also drawn to leave Windies in tatters at 10/3 from just 6.1 overs.

After a brief period of resistance, things went from bad to worse for Windies when Shai Hope (14) fell to Mark Wood for the second time in the match, a short delivery seeing Hope hang his bat awkwardly, with the ball lobbing up to Stuart Broad at point, who made no mistake with a simple catch. Windies finished the session on 35/4, their hopes of saving the match all but over.

Nevertheless, Hetmyer and Chase managed to frustrate England after the break with a 45-run partnership, one that ended in dismal fashion for the home side. A full toss to Chase from Wood was sent towards the point boundary, with a seemingly easy three runs on offer. However, poor running between the wickets saw to a comfortable run out for England, with Hetmyer sent on his way for 19.

Shane Dowrich fell for the same score, with Moeen finding drift to catch the batsman’s edge, allowing Ben Stokes to demonstrate his catching skills at first slip. Despite the carnage unfolding at the other end, Chase kept battling and ended the session unbeaten on 53 from 138 deliveries.

Kemar Roach hung around for 29, but eventually departed to Moeen with a drive straight to Wood at extra cover. Alzarri Joseph and Chase hit some lusty blows to frustrate England, amassing the highest partnership (56) of the innings. Nevertheless, a massive heave across the line saw Joseph send the ball high into the air – Anderson taking a comfortable catch at mid-on to end an enterprising 30-ball knock of 34.

The dismissal of Shannon Gabriel (3) with Chase on 98 could have been heartbreaking, with Keemo Paul having suffered an injury yesterday, leaving his availability to bat in question. However, Paul emerged after Gabriel's fall to support Chase on his way to well-deserved hundred - a brief moment of joy for Windies on what was ultimately a disappointing day. Paul enjoyed himself at the crease with three boundaries, but eventually departed by returning a catch off of Stokes' bowling.

It signalled the end of the match and the conclusion of an excellent series of Test cricket.
