Pitch is very flat. Bowlers have to need lot of luck to find some rough patch where the ball snakes through the defenses of the batsmen.

But we were told by PP experts that Pant is rubbish.

He is not rubbish. He just cannot play moving ball. He needs to learn that aspect to succeed when the ball moves a lot like in England and SA.

But he is a very good T20 and ODI player. Should play a head of MSD there.

The defense of Rahul now looks absolutely solid & perfect! Hope it doesn't get spoiled after Asia Cup (ODIs) where he will asked to bat in middle order (with strangled bat)

Batting wise certainly - would be a good late middle order hitter in the side. Is he ready keeping wise? If not is his batting + glove work > Dhoni's batting + glove work.

166 runs to win in one session with the light going.

Big ask.

India could save it, though.

This is like batting on Indian surface where there is nothing for bowlers. Good to see him cash in on the situation like Root and Cook did yesterday.

Were wriddhiman saha and dinesh karthik good enough to play a knock like this on any pitch?
We have got a good wk batsman who can bat,ya he has many faults but age is on his side.
Wicketkeepers who can score 100 in eng against anderson, broad are rare and we have got one.

3 - 2 for me is a fairer reflection than 4-1 or 3-1 of this series. India haven't been that bad.

To be fair, he is much better than DK in ANY pitch.

I think a draw is looking possible but still think India are a long way away from winning this game.

First Indian Wicket-keeper to score test century in SENA countries!

It’s a nail biter but new ball is coming and india has to survive. Jadeja will be the kary for drawing this.

And the only way he can learn is by playing. He needs time. Can't call him a rubbish player because he fails in his first few games in unfamiliar conditions.

Everything now depends on the new ball, a guick burst by Anderson, Broad or Rahul/Rant doing the impossible

Pant's century will put an end to Test careers of Dinesh Karthik and Saha. I'm very delighted about this. No matter how good Saha is behind the stumps, I can never imagine him scoring a Dominant century like this one today. It doesn't matter whether it's a dead rubber or Broad is injured or whatever. Scoring a century in 1st Test series as a youngster in England is some feat. Pant is the future of Indian wicket keeper Batsmen, period. Goodbye Karthik and Saha.

I have to applaud this partnership. Well played to both of them. From 2-3 to this position in fourth innings chasing 464.

Hats off !

Why is Adil Rashid even playing cricket with that record? I am absolutely bamboozled! Even Pandya has some merit to be in the team! (to provide balance, to give rest to bowlers). That job can be done by Root (part time bowling) with the company of Moeen Ali.

England can only blame themselves for not being able to break through this Indian side.

They needed to give themselves around 150 overs if not more to get 10 wickets.

110 were never going to be enough.

If they had 150 overs then England probably would have lost, from the way it is going right now.

India were never going to chase even if they had declared with 400, England once again just carried on playing a little too longer and thought of India getting steam rolled in the 4th innings.

Big Mac are you watching bro? India snail their way to almost a record run chase?:misbah

I appreciate the innings from Pant and Rahul however, I don't rate innings when there is no pressure and series is already gone. Same was the case with Pandya's few sixes in CT 17 or India's win in SA series last test. Cant deny the performances but these are situations where nobody has anything to loose so it mentally frees you up.

Hopeless Rashis should already retire. One of the worst players to ever play for England.

This is just a confidence building innings by 2 youngsters who are trying to find their feet in Test Cricket.

There is nothing to lose and you are right that they are not under pressure to win or draw. But they were under pressure to save their Test careers.

Rahul would have been dropped had he not played this innings today. Even Saha would have comeback had Pant failed today.

200 run partnership, this has been brilliant from these two :salute

Saha might still find the way back as keeper for the home series against WI as more than the batting India needs his keeping on those spinning tracks. Though I think Pant deserves the no 6 spot instead of Vihari.

Singles and the odd boundary will do it for India.

The mirage of a win could be the down fall of Pant. He is too reckless at the moment. Probably wants to milk as many runs as possible when Rashid is on. Won't be easy to score against Anderson bowling with a new cherry.

Honestly, it seems like they're playing under the pressure of not losing the series by a bigger margin.

How will he learn wicket-keeping if the team can't even play him against WI at home?

It appears 6 bowlers is a must for a Test Team to be successful...!

As expected.

One wicket and the wheels are coming off.

Rashid shuts his critics in grand style by getting rid off both the danger men.

Could you believe it? Rashid is winning it for England!

Why? India was never going to win this game. Wickets had to fall from sonewhere. Just be happy with what we saw today from 2 youngsters. This is a victory for us and cant wait for Adelaide test in December.

That ball by Rashid to get rid of Rahul was amazing. I would like to see Alastair Cook bowl but somehow, don't think that will happen.

Exactly! India can go with better mood to Australia (They need some luck... There's luck there with two Australians not playing even if we lose all the tosses again :)) )

Bowled Rashid. Got both centurions. The first wicket was a magic ball.

Rashid has served humble pies to those bashing him earlier on here.

No need to go gaga on Pant. Was playing without any pressure
As soon as target came closer and overs reduced, panicked and started slogging

Are you kidding me, still no new new ball? Have the englishmen lost it
