What's new

England (387 & 192) defeat India (387 & 170) by 22 runs to take 2-1 lead in the 5-match Test series

India should have scored a 50-100 run lead.

Regardless, watch Bhumrah, Siraj, Akashdeep run through England on this wicket
India didn’t deserve a lead. Reddy was struggling badly and got a lucky 30. Both teams batted poorly. It’s a belter of a pitch.

I see some wannabe England supporters are trying Very hard to justified tullebaaz drama in last over :kp

This is just the ninth time in Test history that scores have been tied after both teams' first innings 😯

The last time was between England and New Zealand at Headingley in 2015 #ENGvIND

Tbf, India is right to be annoyed by the antics of English openers but you can’t fault them either, they did what anyone would have done.

Last thing any opener would want is to play a couple of overs right before close of play. It would have been a nightmare had they lost a wicket here.

India would have had a couple of tricks up their sleeves too if they were in the same situation, but the on-field captain will obviously be annoyed in the heat of the moment.

The game is in balance , England will look to attack tomorrow and get 300 runs lead , and even if they get bowled out , put India into bat and throw a challenge towards them to go for it. and if they are good enough win it.

It's just a ODI encounter now, spread over 2 days. India blew away a definite advantage. But game still in balance

He won the series in 2022 with 2-1 :kp
You mean the series where India ran away for IPL before the 5th Test and returned a year later and got smashed?

Only an Indian fan will be delusional enough to celebrate a series win with one Test left to play. Hysterical.

After Day 3, England are ahead.

India had the opportunity to bat England out of the game but that didn't happen.

You can celebrate one of test win while we celebrate 2-1 Series win in England :kp

This was ridiculous from the umpires.

There should be a rule stating that there must be a minimum of 4 overs of play in a new innings at the close of the day's play unless weather doesn't permit it.

Third Rothesay Test, Lord's (day three of five)

England 387: Root 104, Carse 56, Smith 51; Bumrah 5-74 & 2-0

India 387: Rahul 100, Pant 74, Jadeja 72; Woakes 3-84

England lead by two runs

Scorecard

England's tireless efforts were finally rewarded to leave a tetchy third Test against India hanging in the balance after three days at Lord's.

In sweltering conditions, England took the last four India wickets for 11 runs to dismiss the tourists for 387, meaning the scores were level on first innings.

The home side looked set to be defied by Ravindra Jadeja, but after he was caught down the leg side by Chris Woakes for 72, England surged.

Woakes, so prolific on this ground, ended with three wickets, while Jofra Archer's pace deserved more than the 2-52 he claimed on Test comeback.

In the lengthening shadows, Zak Crawley used some creative time-wasting tactics to ensure England faced only one over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Tempers flared, England closed 2-0.

Earlier, opener KL Rahul completed a controlled 100 and Rishabh Pant made 74, while Jadeja shared vitals stands of 72 with Nitish Kumar Reddy and 50 with Washington Sundar.

As usual, England found inspiration from captain Ben Stokes. Stokes produced a stunning direct hit to run out Pant and, in a tireless spell after tea, found the venom to have Reddy caught behind.

Crucially, England had already missed three opportunities to run out Reddy and one to dismiss Jadeja.

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir spent a prolonged period off the field with an injury to his left little finger.

It is not his bowling hand, so he should be fit for the fourth innings, when he would be important in a potential England push for victory.

Late drama in curious Test

Jadeja caught behind after tickling Woakes delivery down legside

This has been a curious Test, often characterised by a slow pitch, slow scoring and a slow over-rate.

The trench warfare has occasionally been interrupted by flashes of brilliance. On Saturday these came from Pant, Archer and Stokes. The words between Crawley and the India fielders in the dying moments provided the drama, demonstrating the high stakes of a tight game and level series.

The day looked to have been shaped by the innings of Rahul and Jadeja, who separately but similarly ground England down.

But, once more, the Test sprung to life. If there was an element of fortune in Woakes having Jadeja strangled down the leg side, England were ruthless in taking the final four wickets in six overs.

Now, just as in their second-Test defeat at Edgbaston, England face an examination of their philosophy. Whereas in Birmingham Stokes' team were not able to bat for the draw they view with such disdain, now they have the task of maneuvering themselves into a position from which they can win.

How will the home side weigh up the time needed to bowl out India on this pitch in the second innings against the target they are able to set?

Last overs tell us England Tullebaazs are really scared of India. Let's see how will they perform tomorrow. :kp

They did the same when root was one short of hundred. Left him high and dry

Again check where it came from ....go from monkeys and morons and then follow it through

If one cant take it then dont dish it.... caps lock or no caps lock.... :bhajji
You talk like you’re handing out heat, but all you’re serving is lukewarm drivel with emoji seasoning. Sit down, keyboard warrior , you couldn’t dish out a paper plate.

Well, hard luck to Momin-— man’s got nothing to show. Now stop replying, you're gonna get me banned. The forum’s already got too many 'I haven’t watched a ball today' kind of posters anyway.

Indian middle order did very well to get to level the first inning score. English bowling is fatigued especially Carse.
Eng will probably want to see out Bumrah and attack all others. Akash Deep in particular bowls one boundary ball every over.
Fantastic test in play.

Why stop at 4 Tests? Next time, celebrate a series win after the first Test.

I think you already did that in Australia this year before they woke up.
Pakistan who has managed to win ZERO tests in SENA since 2018 and is on a 20 match losing streak (I think 8 consecutive whitewashes) in the southern hemisphere shouldn't be commenting on other teams performance in SENA.

Pakistan should look to NOT LOSE a test in Australia before commenting.

And last time in England didn't Zak Crawley hit 250+ lol?

England need to bat sensibly tomorrow. Not mindless Bazball but proper batting.

They should bat till an hour after Tea with a target of around 300. That should be enough.

Yes lovely day. I'm sure people are rattled. The more appropriate word is that they're probably bewildered. Bewildered by a middle aged indian coming to pakistani forums to attempt to "troll". Get a hobby! You're embarassing yourself.
:yawn

Eng can get out for cheap as well. Don't really have the bowling to threaten the batting. On the other hand, even if Eng go big tomorrow, Indian batters can bat out for a draw.

Useless umpire should have allowed another over and penalised the unsportsmanlike conduct from beanpole Crawley.

Fantastic test in play.

When Jadeja and Nitish were batting, I thought they would get a lead of 50-100. They were at 326/5.

But, England came back strongly. They cleaned up the tail quickly.

Yes the umpire should have known that a poster named @RexRex would get upset and he should have allowed another over to make you happy.

Oh lord what transgressions has he committed

If English bowling was actually good, they wouldn't have let them score as much. The current bowling is toothless. Carse has been their best bowler in this series and he looks fatigued now. Archer is just coming back. Woakes is finished. Bashir is below average atm.

English bowling is obviously not that great. Both their spinners and pacers are ordinary. I say even Ireland have better Test bowling than them currently.

However, they did well to bundle India out for 387 after India were 326/5. England are now back in the game.

Beanpole Crawley being macho is a funny visual.

Gill's initial comment about Crawley's nethers was funny. But I think him showponying when Crawley called for the physio was silly. He should have just stood where he was and either laughed or abused him.

But Crawley has set himself up as a big wuss for the rest of the series and with his form, not the smartest thing to do. Duckett was more chill about the whole thing. Not sure why everyone is fighting here when the players all walked off laughing to each other. Even worse, Pakistanis fighting on behalf of the English, when they themselves weren't this hot in the end :ROFLMAO:

Yeah bro, hes clearly showcasing false bravado even though in a fist fight he would kill all of your team easily?

Just look at the picture. Gill face comes slightly below his shoulder :vk2 .

Again delusion upon delusion
Bro do you see England posting around 300 runs and set this to india?

This is a Pakistani forum and we will say what we want. You don’t even the courage to use an Indian username.

Still pakistan has been the best touring team from Asia in sena its only now with 1 billion population so called best team is catching up with pakistan and have a look at india record in england compare to pak is the worst pak at their lowest and india at their best win ratio is still the same have some shame before coming to pak passion.

You called Crawley a "beanpole".

Can you imagine if an English white called you something offensive? You would probably call it racism. :inti

India has gifted the series with some stupid run outs, catch drops, collapse. India overwhelmingly won most of the sessions in the first 13 days of tests still equal. Hope youngsters don't repeat the same mistakes again and again.

Definitely a team will celebrate a single test draw at the Southern hemisphere because they are so pathetic that they can't even drawn a Test from long time there forget about a test win. :kp

England are lucky to get away with such rubbish bowling dept....They must being changes in upcoming Tests
No their bowling is good

Carse is tired
He bowled so many overs

What do you expect? The other 2 are good too

It’s only woakes but he got 3 wickets too. So no they are actually good

But bother India and pak have won equal amount of series in England though

And pak hardly play more than 3 tests with England, which means their poor stamina issues don’t get exposed as much.

Easy to draw 2 3 test series vs 4 or 5

Umpiring has been terrible. Time waste from both sides there must be some penalties. Also, england should let go of their obsession with duke ball or make better ones.

It is hard to prove time wasting. These things happen in cricket. Part of the game.

Crawley was hit on the gloves. It was possible he was genuinely injured.

In Test cricket, umpires can warn a batsman for time-wasting, and repeated offenses may result in penalty runs under ICC Law 41.10
Ball 3: Zak Crawley pulls away four times , That was ridiculous.

As the title suggests. KL Rahul cost pant his wicket because he was desperate to get his century.

Such acts should be punished severely. But India don’t have cojones to drop their so called stars

Keep worshipping cricketers like they are celebrities.

Here is the article;

India were 247 for 3 as Shoaib Bashir lined up to bowl the last over before lunch on Saturday. Three balls later Rishabh Pant ran himself out in a self-destructive fashion. In the second over post the break, KL Rahul, having become only the second Indian to put his name more than once on the Lord's Honours Board, edged one to give Bashir his only wicket. India were 254 for 5 in suddenly having otherwise controlled the first session, scoring 103 in 22.3 overs until Pant's run out.

So how did India lose their firm hold over the match? Rahul raised his hand at the end of day to admit his desperation to reach the landmark before lunch "changed momentum" of the Indian innings.

Rahul revealed that he told Pant of his plan to get to the century before the break a couple of overs before lunch. Then when he pushed a single to sweeper cover on the first ball of Bashir over before lunch Pant moaned about his senior partner wasting the opportunity to punish what he felt was a bad ball for a four. Two balls later, Pant, attempting a risky single, was run out by a brilliant pick-and-direct hit from England captain Ben Stokes. Pant walked back disappointingly as he might have sensed a century himself until his inning was rudely cut short on 74.
Not ideal," Rahul said at the media briefing. "There was a conversation a couple of overs before that: I told him (Pant) that I will get my hundred if possible before lunch. And with Bashir bowling that last over before lunch I thought there's a good chance for me to get it, but, yeah, unfortunately I hit straight to the fielder.

"It was a ball that I could have hit for a boundary. Then he just wanted me to rotate strike and see if he could put me back on strike. But, yeah, it shouldn't have happened: a run out at that stage really changed the momentum.

"It was disappointing for both of us. Obviously, nobody wants to throw their wicket like that."

While the series is level 1-1, India have hurt themselves in the foot across the three matches by committing untimely errors which has robbed them the opportunity to dominate. Rahul agreed that India batters, including him, wasted the opportunity to convert starts into bigger scores which could have put the visitors "ahead" at Lord's.

"Yeah, yeah. Of course there's a little bit of disappointment because till just before tea time we were in a really good position. Obviously, me and Rishabh got that long partnership and (then) we both got out (in quick succession) - he got out just before lunch and I got out just after lunch. That wasn't ideal so you had set batters in the top five who had gotten off to starts so ideally you want one of them or both to go on and get a big score and that's how you get ahead in a Test match."

Personally, though, Rahul said he was happy to carry forward the form established in Leeds, where he scored 137 in the second innings after chasing a wide delivery in the first innings when he was closing in on a fifty. His 55 in the second Test in Birmingham in the second innings played a role in India raising a big target and winning in dominant fashion. At Lord's, where India won a classic in 2021 tour, Rahul was the Player-of-the-Match for his 129 in the first innings. Those memories surely must have spurred him on to do a repeat this time, but Rahul said he has also been working on his mental side of the game since his last visit to the venue.

He pointed out in the last two-odd years he has also been working with a specialist who has helped him with "improving reaction times" by engaging in mental drills and games which top athletes involved in F1 and adventure sports practice. Rahul said he travelled to Salzburg in Austria, the base of Red Bull team in F1 to work with the specialist who has also helped elite F1 drivers in being sharp and proactive.

Win or lose, people like Kl Rahul need to be chastised and punished. Rebuked for this kind of petulant act.

Needs to be dropped irrespective of his performances thus far. Examples should be made out of him.

This applies to all teams. Not just India. Take a note Babar too.

And Washington exposing tail? He did ok but exposing the tail a fair bit was questionable too having said that Indian tail is the worst. Get paid millions to play and yet can’t put bat on ball. Number 9 and 10 need to learn how to use bat swing and hold the bat.

Crawley did was right, trying to save his & Duckett's wicket. Though it came out as cowardly, Crawley did the right thing. India shouldn't create any fuss about it.
