What's new

England defeat Pakistan by 54 runs in final ODI, win series 4-0

Yep. I remember the "Sarfraz Dhoka Nahi Dega" bit from 2015.

Now he's more driven by the type of Biryani him and his wife should make.

She must be making good duck biryani in that case

Sarfaraz is one of the better strike rotators we have, its so surprising he wasted himself down the order for last 2 years. He himself also to be blamed being the captain.

Having proper roles for players which can maximize the potential of the team plays a huge role in tHe performance of the team.

I can't believe people are defending Abid ali. HE WAS OUT. CORRECTLY GIVEN OUT

He was unlucky in that only a home umpire would have given that in the hope that it might be kissing the stumps. If it was an England batsman the appeal would definitely have been denied and the batsman (English) would still be there.

He's one of the best striker rotators in the world. He would be 30 odd and no one would really know. Ykwim

As we discussed in other thread - most critical 2 players for PAK in WC are Babar & Amir. Babar obviously understandable, but without a genuine world class spinner, Amir's role is equally vital. Whatever assistance for pacers left in this WC is few overs of new ball, and apart from Amir, rest are actually uncomfortable handling that. Unless Amir makes best use of the new ball, every game bowlers with old ball can't recover from 150-1 (23) sort of start)

Sarfraz used to open in WC 2015.

If I remember correctly he played one gem of an innings against SA.

Boohoo

Seems like Plunkett is out of contention now. This attack looks good with Wood and Archer.

don't think so, he is englands most successful odi seamer currently and is a crucial wicket taker in the middle overs.

although, he has been pretty bad this series.

i think archer will not make it, but if he does, its either willey or plunkett not making the cut

What do you think about shadab khan? His average is 40+ against top team

Sarfraz's shot productivity (100% minus % of dot balls), is probably among best in world. But, more than accommodating others, I think it's guts - he came at #4 in Asia Cup and got badly exposed, didn't try thereafter.

Kohli usually rotates strike till 35th over and climbs into bowlers from 35th and 40th overs. That is where he bosses the game while chasing.

Babar: first 24 runs off 18 balls -> next 26 runs off 42 balls

I never had problem with Babar scoring the first 50 runs the way he does, its lack of dominance after that when he is set and decent score under his belt. He is just 24 so he will learn that with time but him being our best batsman, if we want to win matches he will have to do bit more.

Sarafaraz playing well.
Hopefully this will give him some much needed confidence.

sarfraz is not a lower order batsman, he is a no .4 batsman and should not be near the lower order

Yes I will never forget that over he hit JP Duminy for 20 odd, I went crazy that day!
By the looks of today’s innings Sarfraz seems to be in mood...

If he carries on like this it will be a huge boost for him.

Babar is just not good enough to accelerate
If he start accelerating he will be out within 20 balls

Sarfraz against spinners is as good as younas or misbah

No, he is not - not even remotely close to YK. You are watching him on absolute batting belter with white ball - YK scored over 600 runs against Kumble & Bhajji in 3 Tests on Indian tracks.

4 is a pretty tricky position especially when you lose early wickets and you are technically not well equipped as well if the bowl is swinging.

5 should be his position. It also depends around other players. Like Hafeez can bat at no. 4, 5 and 6. Given 15-20 overs have passed

Today he did handle new ball better, but I think 5 is best place for him because batting after 4 hours of keeping isn't easy.

there is not going to be much swing in this tournament. Sarfraz can manage with whatever little swing is on offer.

If Pakistan are 180-3 at the end of 30th over, Pakistan should chase this down.

However these two need to stay and keep the scoreboard ticking.

WOn't make most teams as specialist bowlers - then bats with an SR of 65 @ #7 - you draw your own conclusion. Brilliant fielder though for PAK's standard.

True. Haris is the only one who can bat at 4 even in difficult conditions and that is why I believe he should be in the playing. Sarfaraz and Hafeez would struggle inside 10 overs more often than not.

Babar needs to score boundary in each over while Sarfaraz should just keep on rotating

Sarfraz showing he should have been batting much higher up the order, don't know why he never batted at his advertised no 5 position before today.

Because Fakhar didn't fail, Fakhar and Imam are perfect for each other and complement each other well..

He did play 2 overs worth of balls before he got injured, taking whatever shine one of the balls must have had.

Also Imam usually takes first strike over Fakhar since Fakhar is a bit nervous first up.

Abid Ali is old and has no place in the side.

So its more dependent on Fakhar? As Babar also provides the team stability by anchoring the innings.

You make a good point about taking the shine off the ball, but not sure how much that will be relevant on these phattas. Headingley seems like the only ground where there is some sort of swing available.

Criticism on Babar's innings the other day from 80 to 100 was warranted . .
Criticism right now is naive and devoid of any knowledge . .

If he gets out right now, its game over . . he's playing it perfectly with Sarfaraz . . They need to target 250 in around 38 overs . . that gives us a chance with SHoaib and Asif at the back end . . if they get out now. . there's no chance . .

THe only thing Babar needs to be cognizant of is not slowing down . . his strike rate should be going north, not down . .

But but but.. He is useless

Its his fault he didnt use himself properly and this raising questions. He being the captain should have played where the team required him to. A performing captain effects the mindset of the team as well.

All the batsmen will leave with a happy face after this series. All the bowlers will leave with a sad face. Total
imbalance between bat and ball.

Sarf haters burning ouchhhhh...
Excuses: useless fifty, so what dead rubber...lol

Keep going Sarf let the haters burnnnn feel the burnnn

Credit to Sarfraz for punching above his weight. Scoring a half century above a run a ball is good from him
