It all depends upon 1st session tomorrow. If Aus does not loose quick wickets and bat till tea, then it will be their game.

Agree, we had a good day 1 but need to push on and make a really big score. We have scored quickly so that will be to our advantage if we are pressing for a win on days 4 and 5.

Should have prepared a green top but with the new drainage systems don't know if that would have mattered in the end.

I think the grass would have stayed alive longer this year so you may be right there. But there is no rhyme or reason to pitch preparation here.

Dunno, scoreboard pressure is a funny thing and Australia usually win at Lord's. What fires them up there? The sight of all those MCC ties?

Lords gets a lot of hype here and we value runs or wickets taken at Lords. Caution against counting of early chickens, we have a good start but that does not mean we win fait accompli.

20 to 24 Celsius with more high cloud today. Good batting weather again.

Your best bet is to bat up to 5 p.m. and then get Chef in. He will be tired from directing his bowlers and standing like a cardboard cutout for two days. If you can get him early I think you are well on the way. If he gets in he will be hard to shift.

Broad bowled very well again but there is no help for him at all. England needed a DKL or Waqar or Steyn yesterday. I don't know what Mick Hunt (MCC Groundsman) is playing at. He is supposed to have worked hard for years to get some pace back in the wickets but produces road after road. At least Cardiff had a bit of variable bounce to help the bowlers.

Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi :mc

Pile on them runs. Gonna need it :))

Can't see us taking 20 wickets cheap enough(the mitchs on this highway and quick outfield could be nasty stuff) or quick enough to force anything here.

Still it's already better than 2013 when the series was pretty much already over after our first dig at lords.

Aussie groundsman are the same - full of it. They talk about preparing good cricket wickets with pace and bounce but they serve up road after road.

Agree we will look to bat most of the day, then get a couple before stumps.

Rate the groundsmen based on their county wickets.

Rate the groundsmen based on their county wickets.

The groundsmen are all terrified of getting penalised if the wickets help the bowlers too much, so they err on the side of the batters. There are very few green seamers or bunsens any more even at County level.

On a positive note it means that test-class bowlers such as Harmison, Hoggard, Flintoff, Anderson, Broad and Swann have emerged in the last few years, rather than the mediocrities we had in the late eighties and nineties who relied on green seamers to help them and got found out at test level, particularly overseas.

Broad has kept it tight but you need pressure from both ends. Either that it you need a bowler capable of bowling 150 kph Yorkers. England don't have anyone who can do that.

Rogers out at last, for 173.

Magnificent batting from the ex-Middx man. Can England swarm into the breach? No! - is the answer!

Warne on commentary - Wonder why England are doctoring pitches just to negate Johnson's threat. Nasser seemed to agree to that calling Cardiff as "Mumbai" like pitch.

Painful watching the stuffed back version of clarke bat, looks like an old long retired great trying to play a young tearaway in a testimonial match.

Do the team a favor Mike, drop yourself from the next match, get in Shaun. Smiff can take care of captaincy. That way, we can expect some runs at the least.

Aussies have set a good platform here going into lunch at 424/3 they need to come out after lunch and be aggresive and get up towards 550 so they can declare

Fortunately Mitch Marsh can slog it around

The Beard has gone round the clock.

Broad has 2-64 off 23 overs, good going on this road.

Looks like the pitch could be quickening up though....

This nevil guy is related to George Baily or what because he looks exactly like him and his helmet also replicates the later's.

Australia need to put their foot on the gas pedal now. No point hanging around . The faster the runs come, the more demoralised will be the English team.

Good partnership between the debutant Nevil and Smith, scoring at a faster rate than Pakistan usually do in ODIs.

Batted Smiff.

Jimmy about to go round the clock, wicketless.....

Aussies 531/5 wonder how much longer they will bat on here, think they should try and get england in just before tea.

Smith gone LBW, goes for review but looks plumb on 1st look...

Nevill gone, 2nd wicket of inns for Root.

Aussies should just declare now...

Under Clarke's leadership, this is the highest total by Aus away from home. Wonder for how long before he declares

Aussies need to bat for atleast half an hour after tea and extend their lead to 600, that would demoralize Englishmen even more, grind them into dust!

Day 2's First Wicket - Rogers.A brilliant knock from the experienced man,

Fm1dJsT.gif
Coupled with an extraordinary 284 run stand with Smith.

The Joe Root Rescue Call has come already.

This is sensational bowling from a world class attack. Never ever write the Australians off.

Wish :rahat would be watching this. Bowl full and straight mostly and use short balls sparingly, not the other way around.

Bell and Ballance always looked suspect against Aus. Ballance has been playing like sheit for a while.

To think Ian Bell used to mock Steve Smith for not being any good

And now Root is gone ! Massive wicket for Australia, the Joe Root rescue job ain't happening. England in all sorts of trouble now.

Oh my word. Very lucky escape for Stokes. Australia look like they might take a wicket with every ball !

There's not many bowlers more exciting to watch than Mitchell Johnson when he's at his best.

How is this pitch looking full of life all of a sudden? The ball is rising from good length and there is a hint of swing.

Jesus Christ, Johnson with another thunderbolt. Isn't this so much better than watching teams rack up 500 and 600 thus boring us all to tears ?!

There is nothing, NOTHING more exciting than a great bowling spell in cricket. Stuff your batsmen.

Johnson is such a confidence driven bowler. When he is down, he is worse than Ishant. When his confidence is up, he is the best in the world.
All of this can happen in a span of 1 week.

He scored a 72 in Cardiff

Pitch has no pace, Johnson is bowling well. First one swung in air at pace and second one was a poor shot by root.

It has quickened up ever so slightly. Going through nicely to the keeper, slight movement as well.

Of course Johnson is bowling at his best as well. Scoreboard pressure, wickets early in the spell and has suddenly found his rhythm
