What do you mean Kohli can't be trusted to bat for long periods. He batted plenty long in SA. His wicket is the prize wicket I reckon.

What I meant is that he cannot be trusted to dig in like Vijay or Pujara can be. Secondly, he'll more likely make a hundred off say 130-140 balls but what's needed is someone to face about double the balls or even more for a century as India needs to make sure they allow England minimum time to bat again.

I don't think you are giving Kohli enough credit. He isn't some slogger. He's a very intelligent batsman who can stay at the wicket and occupy whilst scoring off bad balls. He's the most valuable wicket in this Indian team IMO.

EDIT : He just needs to make sure he doesnt' get out to some pie thrower like Moeen Ali.

It's all about situations mate. In current one, I'd be much comfortable with a Vijay/Pujara batting rather then a stroke-happy Kohli.

Yeah but he would be a decent second spinner i think. Not good enough as a frontline spinner id rate him a bit better than a piechucker

Probably a decent third spinner but still a pie chucker. If his last name wasn't Ali you would agree with me!

stroke-happy kohli is better ...if we can reduce the scoreboard pressure quickly then the guys coming down the order can play more freely on the other hand pujra-vijay type batting could have taken some time out of the game but once they fall it would have led to a collapse due to the pressure of mountain of runs on board

Haha No mate i am not a Moeen Bhai fan. :Amla his race or religious observance dont influence me. He did Ok against SL and Indians are best players of spin they make the besy look like piechuckers against them. :Warne. I think Moeen on a pitch that turns a bit could do well against teams that arent good vs Spin like AUS PAK etc

He's a piechucker :D But a useful allrounder to be sure. And yes he will probably roll the OZ on a turning wicket :(

I reckon Kohli is one of the top three (the other two are Amla and ABCDEF) batsmen in the world at the moment.

Haha the ECB apologist strikes. I mean Jordan was born and bred in Barbados not really English is he ?

No apologism, because there is nothing to apologise for. If Jordan wants to better himself by emigrating to a new land with better job prospects than his own, then good luck to him.

Doesnt look Test Class bat to me very elegant but a county trundler basher. He was struggling against Jadeja at Lords made him look like Ajmal. And is a bunny against the short stuff. Think he can be a good LOI all rounder. Needs to work on his technical flaws to be a good Test bat.

As an English supporter dont you feel a bit weird seeing foreign nationals representing England. Surely In England their is enough talent to have more homegrown lads in the team. I think the ECB should invest more in inner city areas theres a lot of talented kids amongst second third gen immigrants.

For that he would need to put his mind into the sport he's playing, rather then other issues which have nothing to do with cricket.

Haha mate a few wristbands doesnt mean that all he thinks while batting is Gaza and Palestine. Its like saying Strauss supporting help for heroes means it would distract him. The reason it is an issue is because it has been highlighted by the press and been made into an issue. I mean Cristiano Ronaldo openly supports Gaza and Palestine and he still won the Ballon D'Or. Moeens political beliefs have no effect on his form.

His earlier statement on religion was also into taken into consideration Bro.

I know he has said i wanna be a role model for British Muslims etcs. But he has technical flaws in his game i dont think his religious or political beliefs are affecting him too much. Sometimes people can use their beliefs to motivate them and become better. Moyo said his conversion to Islam and the spiritual enlightenment he received helped him in his record breaking year in 2006. Whether that was true or not is a different matter but he certainly believed it.

My basic point being that once you make a irrelevant statement or act, there'll be reaction to it, and you are bound to get distracted. A successful sportsman has to remain focused, specially at this stage of career.

Kohli throws it away. He will find it difficult to score big in Test Cricket if he continues to get out like that.

Pretty harmless ball outside off. Should have left it alone.

Indians have gifted the wickets to England bowlers and English fielders do not drop catches.

I think maybe the media attention surrounding his act could affect his form for sure. But the wristbands themselves i dont think affected him that much Moeen was backed by the ECB so he probably notified them before the game that he would wear the wristbands. Plus because the ECB backed him the media havent ripped into him as much as they could have.

well i guess i got that wrong....still a long batting line up to follow....england gonna feel the pain

Yaar why yaar?

Things were going really well in this series till you started hyping us up.

Tone it down and maybe we can win.

I don't care who is right or wrong...just want India to win.

So stop these predictions. Its only harming us.

lol india's win or loss doesn't depend on my predictions.....don't be so superstitious

Regarding your first statement, foreign nationals have been representing England since Prince Ranji a century ago and all the time I have watched cricket. I find it quite normal.

I agree with your second statements but this is one for the Department of Education not the EWCB. Labour Education Secretaries disinvested in cricket, considering it elitist. The irony was that many working class boys stopped learning to play and the game became more and more the purview of the public schools attended by boys from rich families, so it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I see many Brit-Asian lads playing in the park and wish there was a way to harvest from this pool of talent.

Right fair enough top post mate. Didnt know about what Labour did.

Flat pitches with a little bit of help is the way to go to beat India.

I wouldn't say this is a flat pitch.

It has true bounce, good carry to the keeper, helps good bowlers who bend their backs, allows shots to be played by good batters, and exposes weaker players.

They should all be like this in England.

What a difference has been made by Cook getting runs!

- he has relaxed and is making better and more creative tactical decisions instead of fearful stereotyped and negative ones
- Bell immediately starts scoring too
- the whole side looks as though the shackles have been taken off them

Its not flat. It swings but not a proper swing track. Runs can be scored easily too.

If Vijay, Kohli didn't make those mistakes, India would still be 2 down.

That's not the pitch doing its job. Its us making idiotic mistakes.

Plus our bowling in the first innings reached new levels of low.

So if you have to 2 properly playing teams on this ground, it would be a boring draw.

Great news for England.

Alarm bells for India.

one innings and you are on cloud no. 9 ....he still looked nervous throughout the innings and freaked out once he got to the 90s

Kohli's dismissal was inexcusable. GIfted the wicket to Jimmy.

Vijay also played terrible. Getting played trying to leave the ball is horrible.

India should have been 160/2 right now. Also, England did not give 10 chances via dropped catches to our batsmen.

Cook, Bell, Butler should not have scored more than 80 runs combined. Instead they made 400 combined

Basically up to this point, India pretty much choked. Very very poor stuff from India.

Exactly.

Don't forget Dhoni's bad captaincy in not leaving out Shami (has been out of rhythm for 2 Tests) and not picking Ashwin with 7 lefties. Rohit picked up 1 wicket with his part time off spin. Even if it was not out, the ball was a snorter.

That's why I am so angry.

Its like we have self destructed.

And what's up with Pujara lately?

Clicked in all 5 innings and then threw it away. Should have had atleast 2 hundreds in this series alone.

Pujara always looks set for a big score. But throws it away when he scores 40 runs. He is not able to break that 40 run barrier.

I am not too worried about Pujara. He needs a bit of luck. Sooner or later, he will score massively again. Worried more about Kohli.

Same case with Kohli.

He is fluent and is just throwing it away.

Both need concentration lessons.

India will draw this test. Rahane not playing spin that well. have closer fielder.. England have to put pressure on instead of playing waiting game and being patience.. Indian plan working better in my view. rahane decision was a big one..

The way their are playing now Rahane will get 100 and Rohit will getting also close to 100.. got to take 1-2 wickets here...

The difference is, Pujara is not poking at deliveries outside his off stump. He is getting some great deliveries in his 30's.

On the other hand Kohli is getting out to rubbish deliveries which should have been left alone. He is poking at every delivery outside his off stump. Probably his aggressive instict tells him to score runs off those deliveries.

I mean the delivery that Jimmy bowled to get Kohli's wicket was a rubbish delivery. Kohli wanted to score runs off it. He does it go for back foot punch. But he goes for front foot poke. Kohli needs to work on his patience a lot. Probably do some yoga or something before any Test series. Then when the ODI series comes, he should start watching Sunny Deol and Rajni Kant movies :D

Dhoni went one-up in the series and chose to try to guard his lead by picking an extra batter instead of Ashwin, whose continued absence baffles me. With three tests still to play, playing for draws is dangerous. England were playing badly but they are at home and had to click eventually.

Has Pujara played in England before? Maybe he is getting used to the movement off the pitch and in the air. I'm sure he'll get a hundred at some point. Too good not to.

Rahane is looking good again.

A draw here will go a long way For India in saving this series. It is poms who are one down and need to take initiative.

Rohit Sharma averaging 60 now in test cricket....if he can become more consistent then pujara, kohli, rahane and rohit can form the new fab-4
