How come applying foreign substance such as saliva on the cricket ball doesn't count as "Ball Tampering" ?:13:

122 more runs to get before Cook's defensive captaincy comes into play and saves India the match. :msd

Dhoni is trying everything not to let Jadeja vs Jimmy dual, intentionally or unintentionally :po:

If India avoid follow on, its safe I think.

England will have trouble deciding what target to set, how much time to give considering scoring happens fast in this pitch when batsmen get well set.

Time for Broad to go back to dressing room. Half of the time he is on field and the other half, he is in dressing room.

Make him run Jaddu.

you are late buddy...it has been pointed out by others...india still in the game....look out for sir jaddu and his sword
I'm not late. I'm just commenting on the mark I made which no one else did as I write this I also see that sir jaddu is out :91:

It's a sad day, when Bhuvnesh Kumar averages more than majority of Pakistani batsmen and matches Pakistan's best test hope Umar Akmal.

Another 4.

Broad is being schooled by Kumar.

3 fours in over already.

Doc, Bhuvi looks a better batsman than many Indian batters too :))

I think he is staggeringly good.

The way he left some balls...man that was shocking. Amazing well lefts.

I am not taking a potshot at Dhoni (right now) but I think he can only dream of judging those deliveries the way Bhuvi did. Even Ashwin won't be able to have those well lefts from what I have seen of him.

Brilliant batting by Bhuvi.

Easily one of the top batsmen for us in this series.

Will England enforce follow on? Reckon they'd be really thinking about it!

Unlucky Bhuvi.

BK was all set for another 50.

Good 20 runs from him.

Hopefully Pankaj and Shami can also wag.

you jinxed it SIF ..lol

That was a good jinx.

Anyways, Bhuvi looks a goodish batsmen.

Very poor performance from Indian batsmen here. Credit to English bowlers for bowling with venom and most importantly for the patience they showed.

Even Pankaj singh has 3 half centuries at first class level with highest score of 74...so all is not lost just 50 more runs come on

I think England will make India bat again if they get out before the Follow on target..They just want to have time on their side..

From pounding England to saving ourselves from getting our backside kicked.

Dude, how things have changed with your predictions.

Anyways, only 50 more to score.

So hope for the best.

If Pankaj has 3 50's why isn't he coming to bat?

Maybe cuz Shami is more dependable at the moment, and Pankaj is unproven.

lol...i said england's best hope was draw ...50 more runs will ensure that....pounding was based on pitch conditions if you remember ....they will still lose the series 3-0,2-0,or 1-0 depending on the conditions...

Imo if India cross the follow on target result of this match will be most likely a draw as then England would need to bat for two sessions or more to make the game safe.

And unless India collapse totally, they will play it out.

On the other hand, if India get out right now, probably following on, India won't be able to bat for 02 whole days.

You are deluded mate. Or a big time troll.

I like your optimism.

My post was in reply to this post you made:

Yep.

"Avoid follow on, save the match" is the mantra now.

By no means. England will not enforce the follow-on even if they get the chance. No point in wearing out Anderson and Broad for the last two tests.

They'll charge to 200 in the second dig, promoting Buttler and maybe six-hitter Jordan, and give India four sessions to survive.

Really? England will not enforce the follow on no matter what?

Then its a great thing for India.

Well, I don't know what is in Chef's mind, but in his position I would not enforce it. He can win by batting tomorrow. And he will want to protect his two main guns for the rest of the campaign.

You can win by batting tomorrow but your chances dip seriously.

Think about it.

1. In this pitch, its hard to get batsmen out unless they do mistake or you bowl jaffas. Indians made mistakes but no guarantee they will do again. With this rubbish batting display, we lasted 100 overs and still counting.

So calculation of overs to bowl us out in the second innings would be a headache.

2. Once you are set in this pitch and not too stupid, run scoring is pretty easy and comes fast.

So the target must be safe enough but not too safe (because you might end up losing valuable time trying to attain that).

So no follow on and the draw chances improve significantly.

I would be GLAD if they don't give us follow on.

50 more runs means almost a session
even with six hitters you need at least 50 overs to score 200.....takes out almost 2 sessions
thus leaving India just about a day to save the test

I think that if India follow on they are quite capable of getting to 400+ and then England would have to chase 200 in two sessions on a wearing pitch. Better to get India to bat on that pitch on the last day.

Might not be 50 runs. Might be two balls.

Eng should win this game from here on comfortably. Leading by 250 runs and only 12 more wickets to get. 6 session left to force a result and whole Eng team can bat again for some runs.

Indians have to play really well from here to save this test. I don't think Indians have it on them to grind it out. Only SA and Eng have done it many times in past. Indians are stroke makers and they don't change their game. 90% chance of Eng win and I think it will be Eng win irrespective of follow on decision.

The Indians only have to blame themselves ….. both Rahane and R. Sharma got out to Moeen Ali trying to hit him out of the ground !!!! I guess, the URGE to whack the ball triggers a rush of blood that can't be suppressed. Well, they paid the price.
TWO big wickets, absolutely ….. GIFTED !!!! T20 baby !!!! People badmouth Dhoni, but he can still avoid the follow-on, all depends on how him and Shami survives tomorrow morning. At present though, 80-20 an England win and 65-35 a Draw. Good luck to both the sides.

This is interesting (about as interesting as one of the dullest matches of the year can get).

This match was the deadest draw ever with probably a 90% real chance of being drawn, till India decided to display some of the worst batting they could come up with. Even then we somehow have 323/8 (which doesn't really sound that bad in the abstract until you see how easy batting was). A follow on should be enforced, assuming it's possible, not a foregone conclusion at all (it's the only way for England to play safe and try to win).

England are 1-0 down and have to play for a win. The only way to do that without risking loss is to follow them on. Broad and Anderson have to deal with it, because the alternative is; bat for some indeterminate number of overs and leave yourself enough to bowl out India (which is how many overs?). The lesser time you bat, the less difference it makes to the 'resting' bowlers anyway. On top of that, how much is enough that India can't get them? I'm not even sure 400 is.

India have batted like circus clowns and are 323/8 with captain still around. The pitch has shown literally no signs of acting up at all. Indians have some of the best limited over batsmen and target chasers around; would you really want to risk giving them 120 overs for 390? If they get to 100 for (0/1) off even the first 40 overs playing carefully, it will begin to look like a regulation chase for Kohli and gang on an easy pitch. This is a risk Cook has to consider.

If India follow on it's 50-50. If they don't almost 100% of the time, we will end up chasing something between 350 and 420 in 90-120 overs. The lower the runs figure gets and the higher the overs figure, there's a very realistic chance that we will end up pulling off a miracle chase.

Not really. Did you see those balls? In particular, if Rahane isn't going to try and hit that for a boundary, he should give up playing cricket professionally, and everyone knows it. Their execution was VERY bad, but you can't blame them for playing the shot which was very much on.

You need to read this, though I daresay, even the author doesn't understand the implications fully. http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/764205.html
