There isn't that much. It's all about Amir for them. Azhar asad sarfaraz Masood have all gone under the radar

I understand why Amir's a big talking point but I'm sick of hearing about 2010 and spot fixing. I get why the media have to hype up a series to generate interest but let's MOVE ON already and focus on the cricket.

Part of the anticipation is because its been six years in the waiting. These big foreign tours outside Asia have been few and far between for us. Even Sri Lanka have toured England three times since we were last here !

Yes that's exactly the reason! Good were back in 2018 at least.

That's my point brother. We have done well in tests yet all they want to talk about is a player who hasn't been involved in our good test match run.

Literally watching a news report about the game, the 1st thing they mentioned was Amir :)) :)) and they never mentioned Misbah press conference or any other player.

Mohammad Amir has been overshadowing this match in every way possible. Every single press conference and release is about him, there are way too many threads on him. It's as if it's Amir vs England. The hype needs to be toned down a bit, they need to let him go and play. There are 21 other players playing this game.

Bro I have been waiting for this series for a year. I am a bit nervous won't lie. I hate how long we have had to wait. Living in the UK and watching how much they are going about Amir and none of our other players is annoying need our players to show them where not all about Amir!!!!

I would be heartbroken after all this hype we get smashed although it wouldn't be a suprise

Let's hope we don't get smashed.

This is what I have been saying. Tbh it could work in our favor as the other bowlers could go under the radar

Here is the summary of discussions so far:

1. It is going to be a flat wicket. But not so flat as in the UAE. Just flat enough to not be flat enough.
2. Therefore we should play attritional UAE style cricket. Therefore we must attack.
3. We have the best attack in the world for a green wicket. Therefore England will not prepare green wicket. However, they will sprinkle just enough green-ness to trouble our batsmen.
4. Amir and Yasir are confirmed. The other 2 bowlers should be Wahab and Rahat. Therefore we must go with Imran and Wahab. And Rahat and Imran. And Wahab and Sohail. Good.
5. Our openers are abysmal. But Shan has guts. And Hafeez will surprise. Therefore Azher should come at his normal position even though we see Shan and Hafeez failing. Hafeez will surprise even though we don't know what that surprise is. All we know is that his injury can be controlled with a band aid.
6. We have the best middle order in the world. Which is the UAE. Which is the world.
7. We expect Misbah to fail who isn't technically equipped to handle anyone other than a toddler who spins in the UAE. Younis is old and afraid of fast bowling. Shafiq is untested. Sarfaraz's place is set even though his keeping may kill us.
8. England's middle order is useless. They only rely on Cook and Root. Therefore they will score 400. Even though our attack will reduce them to rubble. And not.
9. Anderson is out. Which is good. Which is bad. We don't know the unknown hyphenated bowlers replacing him. We are afraid of hyphens. And unknowns. And bowlers generally.
10. Our overseas record is better than India's. Ergo we are better than India. We want to play in the IPL.
11. Bring Ahmed Shahzad back. Sami Aslam has been hard done by. So has Hafeez been for being banned or we'd have an all rounder. Put Sohail in since Imran can't bat.
12. Conditions will be dry. And overcast. No rain about. We must win the toss and bat. Therefore we must win the toss and bowl. If we lost the toss, we must bat and bowl.
13. Crowd will be chanting no-ball at Amir. Therefore he is our little brother.

POTW
Absolutely brilliant

Amir is your only world class player, and his past makes him a huge story.

Mohammad Hafeez
Shan Masood
Azhar Ali
Younis Khan
Misbah ul Haq
Asad Shafiq
Sarfraz Ahmed
Wahab Riaz
Mohammad Amir
Yasir Shah
Rahat Ali

The top 7 are a given. However from what I've seen of Misbah he will go with his most gun bowlers that have brought him the most success over the recent years.
He's more of a safe captain and knows having Yasir Shah puts a psychological dent in the minds of English batsmen (after his exploits against them in UAE), so he will definitely be in there, unless its a green top Misbah might then go with 4 pacers..

Its a tough decision between Imran Khan/Rahat Ali, and Misbah would ideally want a Right Handed fast bowler in the lineup, but Rahat still plays because he has got new ball control, and is Misbah's trusted man, whereas Imran Khan has a big injury lay-off which doesnot go in his favor, so Rahat wins this one.(Sohail Khan maybe in one of the later games)

Wahab Riaz is apparently the most hated guy on PP these days, maybe because he is probably the original poster boy of our fast bowling, (which is taken over by Amir) but these same fans were the most over-joyed about his spell against Watson, and were counting the days to Wahab bowling in Australia/England again. In my honest opinion Wahab is a must, because he is the best reverse swing exponent out our whole lineup... Not to mention he was the man of the match in the first test match against England in Abu Dhabi.. Misbah will not let such a good performance go unnoticed.

Before Amir hadn't come to the test side.. Wahab was our goto fast bowler.. Things have changed quite dramatically since that England series in UAE.. Wahab has not made any news whatsoever, really become a shadow of the bowler who was feared by many, and the media doesn't think much of him either.. I haven't seen any media person or sky sports analyst rate him (maybe its more got to do with Amir's inclusion and everyone's obssession about him)

Wahab apparently has felt sort of an inferiority complex since Amir has come in the side.. I saw him trying to bowl seam up against India in the t20 where Amir got 3 wickets in 2 overs.. And he rightfully got smacked for 2 fours by Kohlo.. This is what happens when a penguin tries to fly :D

For obvious reasons Mohammad Amir makes the cut in the starting lineup.. It is almost unthinkable to drop him.. because that is what will spice up this series. And hopefully, just hopefully he lives to the billing of what he is being rated as..

I understand why Amir's a big talking point but I'm sick of hearing about 2010 and spot fixing. I get why the media have to hype up a series to generate interest but let's MOVE ON already and focus on the cricket.

Even Sachin has something to say about it.. needless to say the pressure only builds up more on Amir.. he must be feeling the pressure of the world on his shoulders..

I want Amir to do well. But I hope it's someone else who is he star peformer tomorrow. So sick of the media talking about him like he is our only player.

It infuriates me how azhar and asad are going under the radar when they are better players than Bairstow vince ballance and Moen yet no pundit really talks about them. Even sarfaraz I have hardly seen any English pundit mention him.

Hopefully Amir does well but for tomorrow I hope another bowler stars (if anyone of our bowlers out peforms Amir than Amir will have bowled one hell of a spell). Or one of our batters takes the headlines tomorrow if we bat 1st.

The English have a history of over hyping what they see.. That's why in the Premier League you get pundits like Michael Owen who say Liverpool is the only team players will consider after Barcelona or Real Madrid..
and then players like Sterling get compared to Messi..
And Jack Wilshere is better than Xavi etc etc.. the list goes on :))

Amir is your only world class player, and his past makes him a huge story.

World Class bowler who hasn't played a test match in 6 years.. he still hasnot done for Pakistan as much as some of the others have in this time.. so the hype needs to definitely go down a little
Yasir Shah, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali, Junaid Khan, Abdur Rehman.. and then comes Mohammad Amir making his debut again after 6 years..

Amir was expected to over-shadow the first test pre-show discussions since the time he got banned in August 2010. Its a huge story. Bigger than both teams combined. News outlets in the UK would be fighting like dogs for this story. You think they would care about the scoreline for this series right now?

This has to be the biggest story coming out of cricket in the past century or so. A spot-fixer returning to Test cricket at the very same ground where he was banned, with the potential to perform as well or even better. Wouldn't be surprised if the coverage of England cricket team goes for a toss completely if Amir lives up to the hype.

LONDON – : PCB chairman Shaharyar*Mohammad Khan came over to the Team Pakistan hotel to meet the boys and management on the eve of the Lord’s Test Wednesday, and gave them a pep talk.

He urged everyone to focus on playing hard cricket but without resorting to un-supporting tactics or displaying rancor.

“Play good cricket and be competitive in every sense of the word; give off your best on the field, but your conduct and demeanor at all times must portray nothing but grace.

“We are here to win matches, but also to win friends with our skill-set and also our conduct on and off the field. For us, Pakistan’s image must always come first. So, while I would expect everyone to give his best, nothing but hundred per cent, I also expect them to uphold the best tradition of the gentleman’s game,” said the PCB Chairman.

The meeting was subsequently addressed by head coach Mickey Arthur with manager Intikhab Alam giving concluding remarks.

Hate these last minute pep talks. They distract. Let them focus.

On topic, can't work, can't eat, can't think. Start already!

Congratulations parosis on the start of what will be a historic series for you guys.

Greenstorm incoming in about 3 hours.

Looking forward to the start of play. Hoping for an overcast day to go with the flat Lords track.

Weather is good, no rain.

I kinda want to see us bowl first, see how Amir does.

Guessing we'll go with - Shan Hafeez Ali Younis Misbah Shafiq Safaraz Riaz Rahat Shah Amir

Though I'd rather see Imran > Riaz

And anyone else instead of Hafeez, I like Shan but I just don't think he has what it takes.

Sorry, can't resist a #Greenstorm reference before that start of any important Pakistan match.:inzi

Misbah is not for upsetting team combinations. So I think Imran/Riaz will get the nod over Rahat.

Such a shame that none of them bats well - or they would all be in.

My only expectation is that Pakistan put up a fight in this series, I think a series win is very unlikely.

But Pakistan being Pakistan, anything is possible..

Will most likely be a flat pitch. England knows that bowling is Pakistan's strength and won't risk laying out green seamers in the series (especially since it's batting is inexperienced).

Pak bowling will cause trouble like it always does. If the batting and fielding can stand up, we are in for a close match.

I think they ll go with Wahab, his line is good or not but he has pace in his favour
so Rahat might be fighting for his place with Imran

don't think Pak would like to bowl first, they would love to bowl in 4th inning as we have Yasir.
disadvantage is there (for pak batting)in batting first, but all they have to do is survive first session and then it ll b ok

Bro would be better if you post this info in Broadcast thread also, will help people.

so it's started by mods only now a days ? didn't know that

It's not like this. Pak matches are always sticky threads, and any one can make the thread, but before 40 minutes or 1 hour of the game.

Not before 4 hours :) for this purpose we make Pre Match threads.

Gaah! Had only 2 hours sleep and I'm up. 3:34 AM, have a job interview at 11 AM. Exciting couple of hours ahead.

Symonds on PTV sports. I have huge respect for him as a cricketer but this will be awkward. They shouldve chosen someone else. Maybe its just for the first Test

Jake Ball is going to make his debut. Looks a good bowler, just saw him on Youtube. Any idea about his pace? Bowls 140-145kph+ or 135?

We have 8-9 test matches abroad vs Nz eng and aus combined.. This test match is vital a good perfomance here can be a huge moral boster

Hope You will get double treat Today, Insha'Allah! Belawal2014

I am not watching PTV Sports analysis, just because of Rashid and Saqlain, what has Dr. Noman seen in these two? Rashid is still decent, but Saqlain is not a good analyst at all.

I have lunch and meeting from 12 to 14 so will see score 2 hours into the game I think it can give me serious shock.

Bad day to take work so seriously.

Hope Pakistan bowl, I'm keen to see Amir bowling in the whites again.

How's the weather like for the match?

Guys just woke up, 4:40 am est!
Had a dream hafeez got out for Duck, ball coming in and he's leaving it!
