What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 2

While I am supremely happy with how things have gone, I think it is a legitimate question as to why would England make a flat pitch, considering how things went at Old Trafford. Was it because of the rain?

Would've been a repeat of Old Trafford had England won the toss.

Should really give the new ball to Woakes. Anderson and Broad are utterly useless.

Not that I mind but honestly, what the hell is he thinking

They probably wouldn't want it to backfire if they lost the toss, we got them all out for 297 but it could have been a lot less then that if the groundsman left some grass

Maybe, although confidence in England camp would have been quite high.

In England the groundsmen are usually pretty independent.

Really?? - Lets see what they do after this Phanti. Now they need to give their seamers rest, Green Top is coming!!!

They were over confident after OT, last year there was more green on this very ground.

i reckon misbah has pulled a blinder here lol. i thought it was a negative, bad decision myself at the time

Looking at the history of Edgbaston and the pitch condition at the time it was correct decision.

Nasir is hammering English attack...Like we were after our guys in OT ;-)

Pakistan has shown lot of resolve in this tour. Yesterday it was Sohail, today Sami and Azhar. In A tour couple of guys were really good. As a fan we were lot more worried. Only thing that was really disappointing was the "Amir Show", which we were expecting but did not see... Other than that pretty good tour thus far!!!

Its good that they are bowling 8/10 overs with new ball today, when batsmen have good eye and they are tired :)

yes it is good and 4 more overs before end of play they should just stay here.

This is Azhar's best Test knock yet, in my opinion. Haven't ever seen him look so fluent as his innings progresses.

Got to give it to younis in a way, he is obviously struggling and it's easier said than done to stop dancing etc when you're in terrible knick but he's still desperately trying to fight instead of throwing his wicket away like the master blaster Hafeez did

No.. his innings in Lanka to chase 300 odd in the last innings was the best of Azhar

That was in the UAE. :usman

This is a far more impressive bowling attack in tougher conditions. Having said that, he was dropped playing a very poor shot earlier so not a chanceless innings.

The press conference at the end of the day should be interesting

Current partnership quietly reached 73. I didn't even realize.

You know he is playing well when he is not exposing his leg stump in an effort to cover the swing from the bowler.

His 157 and that partnership with YK in Dubai back in 2012 was absolutely brilliant as well.

I guess the main blemish on this knock is the earlier drop, as we would have slated him for throwing away his wicket if Root had held on, however, what's impressed me the most is his intent to score after getting into the 70s/80s. Not constant tuk-tuk for once.

Aek Lanka mein bhi thi.. :afridi

Yes that ton from him at P Sara Oval on a very difficult track is under-rated because we lost that game. But I remember Azhar was the lone man standing in that innings and scored a brilliant ton.

Damn, Azhar nicks one last ball of the day. Could've just left it.

Still, he's done his job and played brilliantly. Need the others to step up now.
