What's new

England v Pakistan | 4th Test | The Oval | Aug 11-15, 2016 | Day 2

Finally we get to see what Shafiq can do higher up the order.

Gets a boundary.

Two best bats of Pakistan at t crease. ...lets see whether they get 200 or 100 or.... runs partnership

Runs need from shafiq, he owes pakistan a big 100 here!

Don't these two boring commentators have anything to say about Shafique's promotion. Haven't offered any thoughts.

remember younis playing a great innings at lords in 2001 on a greenish pitch overcast conditions etc..i think that was at 6 if im not mistaken

Eng wud have been on about 90 by now . Thata th3 diff between pak and eng bowlers. England give one bad bowl every 3 or 4 overs where as pk bowlers 1 an over .

need to get to lunch without losing any more..please yaar otherwise ill be grumpy all day..

I told you we Poms have always enjoyed watching Pakistan.

Wasn't that Rod Stewart in the crowd?

Seems like a flat wicket when we are scoring over 3 runs/over

When pakistan is batting I want to fast forward and get into results of all the effort.

The Chosen One and Ma ka Farma Bardar beta at the Crease Together for only the 12th time in their entire careers playing together.

Let's hope Inshallah they mark their spots on this opportunity.

Who's that?

I may well be the only person on this forum who used to read "Smash Hits" in the 1980's. The crooner Rod Stewart used to be called "Uncle Disgusting" in that fantastic magazine. shaz619 might be impressed to know that I still have my full collection of inflatable Spice Girls from that magazine, although sadly they are not life-sized.

Rod Stewart loves the same sports as all Englishmen aged over 45. He pretends to be Scottish, and famously literally cried with joy when Celtic beat Barcelona a few years ago.

I think Geoff Boycott was right about this being a 600 pitch. I reckon Pakistan will make between 250 and 350.

Sorry, wasn't even born back then.

Pakistani drops costed 435 runs by far and this is estimate of proper chances grounded.

pathetic to say the least.

I remember that guy from the barca celtic match. As a Barca fan, was painful for me to say the least.:afaq

I think not a single seat in the Stadium is empty today ? Just looks absolutely packed. Does anybody know how many people are present there today ??

Sorry, wasn't even born back then.

Rod Stewart actually started his career in the 1960's. He's a really, really famous British singer - most popular in America - whose songs are just known by everyone in the western world.

But he's also famous because he replaces his leggy, blonde wives every decade with an identical model who is 10 years younger than the one before. His oldest kids are much older than his current wife!

He's a genuinely nice guy who is much loved by everyone except radical feminists. And he loves sport. But he wouldn't be at a Sri Lanka Test or a West Indies Test. It's a huge tribute to Pakistan that they are considered Box Office attractions.

carry on playing dont get bogged down, their heads will fall. Afternoon should be easy batting, 600 pitch here..

Even if we get a small lead of 50-100, we have a chance of pegging England back as Oval pitch does tend to take turn so hopefully Yasir will be a lot more effective in 3rd innings than he was at Edgbaston where the pitch offered nothing.

Fairly sure the Oval at fully capacity is 25,000 not sure exactly how many are in though.

Shafiq needs to make england pay for the dropped catches! Both these batsmen owe pakistan big hundreds.

After how we batted and bowled in the last test we need a lead of 200-250 or game over, match is Englands or will end up in a draw

The best thing for Pakistan is that every Test has made a big profit and the TV ratings have been really good too.

The series has secured Pakistan's former (and lost) reputation for being a big attraction as tourists to England. The 2010 team didn't just fix, they were bowled out four times in four Tests for less than 100.

This team has had a financial impact at the grounds second only to Australia (although Indian tours sell the overseas TV rights for much more money).

There is a BBC Test Match Special podcast from last week which interviewed the Warwickshire Chief Executive about the profits from last week's Edgbaston Test. They earned enough money for it to change their financial fortunes for the whole summer. ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p043xch8 )

So the best thing about this tour is that it has moved Pakistan far ahead of South Africa and Sri Lanka and New Zealand to the very fringes of entry into the Big Three. And Pakistan are a team that English grounds are happy to bid high to host now.

Its a boring passage of play, can't blame the commentators if the action's not very inspiring.

No, they are just boring commentators. A commentator like Warne would find something interesting to talk about.

Anyway as I said, they didn't even bother to offer a thought on Shafique's promotion and/or YK's demotion. A guy who always plays at 6 is suddenly in at 3 and they don't even comment a thing about it? Bumble is especially bad, I've noticed this series.

Shafiq playing to many loose shots here and needs to realize we need a big knock from him!

Yeah, they keep talking about the same topic. Botham has said "good pace from Finn." almost 3 times already.

Well this is nice to hear for a change :) However this new talk of a T20 competition that might rival IPL/Big Bash/ PSL etc etc scares me that it would most certainly have a negative effect on the attendances of test games in England - especially on the Young crowd

It is a pleasure to watch young lads (8-12 year olds) wearing caps in the stands for their favorite county team which shows how strong, competitive and entertaining the domestic First Class system is there in England !! Wish we had something even 50 percent of what you blokes have there in UK !!
