Question is, Agar was always an okay batsman, so why was he at number 11 in the first place?

I thought ken was injured why wasn't he called on to bowl earlier. Weird stuff.

That's lunch what a Test it has been thus far. Brilliant!

what an amazing test match Aussies fighting back. Siddle and Anderson magic yesterday now this. Never rated Hughes but this really is a very gutsy knock under pressure came to the crease with wickets tumbling and kept calm and played with composure and Agar!!!! what a knock playing like Gilchrist.. australia's secret weapon has been unleashed:yk

lunch.... Aussies will have an awsome lunch now and england will be feeling down. what a fight back.

All the other bowlers have made Test runs lately. If we picked the batting order on form Clarke would be the only batter in the top 5.

I love low scoring encounters in Tests. Those who are destroying cricket are the ground staffs themselves.

No-one wants to see 1000 runs per innings. everyone wants a result and a close encounter. Flat tracks dont ensure that

Has ball "maintenance" gone out of fashion with the Poms or they missing Boparas dry hands?

Looks like Cook has completely lost it. Asks Barbie to bowl the last over before lunch. :)))

So this pair has batted like 21 overs! England take the extra half hour but still can't get a wicket. This Ashes is going to be much closer than what everyone here predicted.

Wonder what Beefy and Vaughan are saying in the Sky studio now.

Vaughn trolls for Beebs

Great fight back but Australia still with a lot of work to do. England will bat again in very favorable conditions.

Anderson got it to reverse earlier in the day not sure what happened. The pitch was expected to flatten out today though.

Knew Agar would give us something with the bat.

WA gave him good practice winning games from similar positions.

Did it against Lehmann at teh Gabba

If Australia are nine out at tea time does tea get pushed back half an hour?

Yeah Eng is sure to pile on the runs this time around. Then Aus will be really up against it already plenty of cracks on the wicket. Aus screwed up today. Looked in control at one stage when Smith and Hughes were batting but then fell away. Eng still very much on top I would say.

Jonathan Agnew said:
"You've conned us you Australians haven't you?! You've said 'we're going to pretend this is a left-arm spinner who bats number 11' when in fact he's the next Gary Sobers and he's going to bat at number three for the rest of his career."

Yep

michael holding thinks the reason is that he is just 19 years of age, Else he is nothing like a number 11.

Surely that's not good enough. He's got a good FC record. Now, let's assume Hughes had got out, and he'd been playing with the tail.

Yep. Should have batted at 8.

FC batting average over 40.

well he averages 33.6 in FC cricket which means he is no mug with the bat!

Over 40 now and more important has won WA several games with the bat and ball after WA continually collapsed to about 7/100

What a great match! Gutted that I've watched absolutely none of it. Snowed under with work.

Am pleased the Aussies came back, going to be a one innings shootout to the wire.

Agar SR 100+ have australia pulled out an :afridi same story brought in as spinners turned into a hitter although Agar's played very neat so far

This is a good old-fashioned English Test match, the kind you used to see in the 90s quite a lot.

Hopefully we can set 250 in the final innings. The Swann factor will be crucial.

Good to see Australian fight back. I gave a 2-1 series win for Aussies as a prediction based more on hope than realty, so let's see if Aussies make my prediction real.

Go Aussie Go ... Give a thrashing to the Poms.

Agar looks like he can play.

Watching on phone at work...so please enlighten me as to how much they debated that stumping decision. I can imagine Botham getting annoyed.

To be honest though, can only see these guys getting a 50 run lead. England will still score heavy in their second innings. Australia will in all probablility lose.

Russell Arnold from Trinidad tweets :Tino Best is nervous about hi record of 95 as no. 11

Exactly what I love about test matches! The match keeps swinging one way or another until a winner is decided!

Real torchour this.Eng are a methodological side they bowl by videos and analysis and got caught napping by a debutant....

England really don't think out of the box, they just seem to follow the textbook all the time, the reason why they aren't that good to watch.

I do not think England are doing that, i.e sticking to plan. They need to bowl six out of six deliveries on good length in the corridor of uncertainity. They are all over the place. Bresnan or Onions would have wrapped this up much sooner.

Wicket has completely flattened out under the sun it seems. Only if Aus had a few wickets left in the bank could have really pushed Eng here.
