England will play either Tremlett or Finn for Bresnan . I hope they drop Baristow & play the A/R Woakes .

Weather forecast for all 5 days is mostly clear . A win toss & bat first kind of match & surface beyond doubt .

England playing two spinners?? This would be the first time in several years we have had two spinners in England home games.

just now read this on tms : Some interesting breaking team news to bring you. Sir Ian Botham has handed caps to Chris Woakes and Simon Kerrigan this morning, suggesting both men are in the team. We're not sure who drops out just yet - other than Tim Bresnan is already ruled out with injury.

I hope England go with 5 bowling options .That will ensure a result :)

Australia have won the toss and, surprise, surprise, Michael Clarke chooses to bat first, could be a big toss.

ty bro . It was such a silly mistake

Kerrigans only 5 foot 9!

Edit: Nvm thought he was a fast bowler

Botham said in pitch report - extremely dry pitch , good for batting on day 1 , reverse from day 2 & spin day 3 ,4 & 5 .

Anyone know how far Lord's is to the oval? Is it driving distance or something?

I note the fast bowler better than Dale Steyn is averaging 31 for the series, on his home pitches against undoubtedly poor batsmen.

Looking forward to seeing us bowl later today...;)

I think low bounce with new ball is indicative of the fact that we will have variable bounce in last 100 overs of match . Not a batting paradise imo .

Anderson pwns Watto. Made him look an eejit.

It was Warner lol.

Well that's Warners second failure whose in next? #australianpuzzle #australianlogic

Australia change their batting order so often it's difficult to remember who comes in where!

Good decision by Dar. Just clipping the leg stump but was enough doubt.

Batting failing. Get rid of number 3 batsman replace with number 6 all rounder on debut.

CA has outdone PCB. Congrats.

Australia 112/1 after 29 overs. That's lunch on day 1.

Watson has been hammering these English bowlers today. He has raced to 80 off 77, while Rogers is on 21 off 87.

Just saw the scorecard and its seems Watson has welcome the debutantants pretty well :11:

Well we have been going for the PCB crown for some time now. Its only a matter of time while Gilly and the boys are in charge.

Great to see England debut a couple of English players in a dead rubber, its like those coach encouragement awards that used to get given to the hack in junior cricket.

Trust me, he is. He's debuting in an ashes test, he's nervous.

Wont be the first or the last to have a shaky start in an Ashes. We'll see how he goes.

Swann has been a real thorn all series, just keeps getting top order players out. 2-120 which is OK for us and we have cunningly picked five bowlers which ironically shoukd strengthen our batting.

Woakes has been good in domestic cricket but has been found out in international cricket. He hasn't played very well for England in the shorter forms and looked very wayward today. I personally think we have plenty of better players than him. Such as Stokes.

Nasser Hussain, "Australia have weakened their batting" by dropping Usman. Lol wat. We are going to miss his 4(15) efforts.

Swann bowling without elbow pain is a gun.

Im sure you do but are any of them English?

Woakes isn't an ODI bowler, he's a 4/5 day specialist. He'll be fine when he settles down.

Personally I'd have played Reece Topley or James Harris.

Like someone said earlier, generally our bowlers are English. Stokes is English, Borthwick is English, Chris Jordan is English the list goes on. I do have to wonder if Woakes would be playing if he didn't lay for Warwickshire...

Only about 5 miles apart? Why?

Clarke really struggling against Broad. Would have been good to get someone like Tremlett in and see how the likes of Clarke like him aswell.

Nice looking 4 though.

Quineyesque.

Watson has batted like man told he needs to score runs or he will be dropped.

Needs to beat the dreaded 87

Why is everyone clambering for Tremlett. He's been awful this year. Isn't the same bowler he was in Oz.

Or Tremlett? The Aussies realy didn't like his pace and bounce in 2011 and although he isn't totally the same bowler since coming back from injury it would still be nice to give him another shot.

Watto, the best way to avoid being hit in the head is by keeping your eye on the ball and avoiding moving your head to the side which exposes the unprotected parts of your head underneath the helmet.

Tremlett is finished for international cricket. If he couldn't make the starting XI this game, when will he ever? It's clear that Flower doesn't particularly rate him. If we want pace & bounce then we have Steve Finn.

We need to move on from Tremmers I'm afraid.

Cook is a rubbish captain... Watto would have thrown his wicket away against Kerrigan..

Unlucky Clarke.

Ball hit the pad and went on to hit the stumps.

Looks like Anderson will bring his average under 30 after this Test.

Finn simply does not have the mental/physical ability to plant the ball on a good line outside off stump regularly. He's stuck in the LOI mindset of constantly switching things up and in Test cricket the batsmen simply wait for him to put one short/wide/on leg and then hit it away. Finn needs to improve considerably to be considered as the third seamer.

I stand corrected. I knew that he played for the England U19's so assumed he was born in England. Although before the "England stealing players" brigade emerges he did come to England aged 12 so has learnt his trade in England.

Watto might not have much of a cricketing mind but even he is going to struggle to get himself out to constant full tosses and half bungers

You know Watto once he's in the mode he goes for everything one good or decent ball is all it takes :afridi

Good on England letting Watto score a ton. Another easy target for the return leg.

Liked the reigned back celebration from Watson. Some could learn a thing or two from him :kohli

Watto needs to build from this.

Probably got told to sort out his batting or be dropped for good and to his credit he has responded.

But he needs to continue.

Now reaches Phil Hughes test career tally.

Watson may have a poor conversion rate but he's still the better batsmen.

Watto is a very talented batsman and nice to watch when on song.

That's probably why he is so enraging.
Agreed the thing is he always seems to get starts but never goes on to score big.

Dropped a sitter cooky

I demand a full match fixing investigation into the England team.

They obviously have money at 100,000,000 to 1 odds on a Watson double century.

Agreed the thing is he always seems to get starts but never goes on to score big.

And never seems to learn from his mistakes.

But I guess this year has made him face some hard truths- that he is in his 30s in a weak team and if he wants the respect he believes he deserves than he needs performances to back it.
