India should look to wrap up the innings. There have been several instances where Indian bowlers have leaked up runs to tailenders. Need to get England under 150 at max.

Agreed.

Don't know why Kohli brought Pandya on now. It's time to get Ashwin on and have Shami and Bumrah share duties from the other end.

England made a huge mistake dropping Curran.

Good start by India but this might turn out like Lord’s.

Can't understand why our thick bowlers can't stick to bowling around the wicket when that line is so much more productive . Ridiculous stuff

Why is it always so hard to polish off the last 3-4 wickets? :(

India should be disappointed if England get anywhere near 200.

With Curran and Ali, there are two attacking batsmen at the crease, so its just a question of keeping your nerve and bowling dry in that channel. They are bound to go after one.

Have to bowl the occasional short one to Moeen.

If Sam Curran had played the third match. England would now be leading 3-0 I reckon..
:D

If England scores above 170, This Indian batting line up will let the match slip unless and until Kohli gets a 150 odd in the 1st inning

So counting on the other 10 Indians to make 20 between them?

Single single single ..... too easy.

...and it's Chai.

So never choose players that are actually good but choose players that perform against spl teams,Laxman against Aus, Moen Curran vs India

Looks like Sony have replaced Swann with Harmison.

This won't be so frustrating if our batting line-up was solid. Sadly, there is a good chance we'd be 139/6 as well.

So it's imperative we finish them off asap.

When a team bats this deep, you have to expect to have 200 odd scored against you when they have a bad day.

Moeen to get another ton against his whipping boys InshaAllah.

Be it Dhoni, Karthik, Saha, Pant, whoever....is there a rule that they have to always pretend to be uber-excited when Ashwin bowls?

Its all over for Poms , Anderson and Broad are walking wickets , do not expect them to score more than 10 runs each.

We'll probably need to survive ~10 to 15 overs before the close.

Eng will be happy to get to 200+ after being 6 down for 80 odd. Poor effort from Eng after winning the toss.

Curran can take them past 220. And India might also struggle with the bat..lol...look at the ball swing.

Every balls looks great in these conditions. That's why I don't rate Anderson that high. You got to really run it on in different conditions.

Seems like the wicket is difficult to bat on.. I am not seeing india making more than 160 on this pitch if england manages to get kohli out early..

India is not going to put a big total here. Ball is doing enough.

If India can bat sensibily here like they did in Trent Bridge and get close to 350, thry will be significantly ahead in the game.

I don't think this is a 200 pitch. This is the best batting pitch in the series so far. India should do better with the bat here.

This guy sam curran is an exceptional talent.. Batting beautifully on a difficult pitch..

Absolute wastage of spot this Rashid guy is - they should have picked one more batsman and bowl few overs of spin with Moeen.

After Indian pacers almost won the game in 1st session, I think, Poms have crawled back significantly here - if they can mange to reach 225, this game will be decided on the 2nd innings. In any case, it's going to be a great game.

India should've been able to bowl england out under 150 considering they were 80 odd for 6 at one time..

Is Anderson an ATG in your opinion?

Root is neither using him as a bowler nor he is a good batter.. but he is not good in either of the departments..I am wondering what kind of role is assigned to adil rashid..

Very good bowler, but comfortably below ATG level.

I totally agree. It's funny how the English and Aussies go OTT with how they rank their so called greats.

Even in his FC career, I have seen him being used mostly on 4th innings. His County Captains won't use him in 1st innings, and if they are bowling first not much in 2nd innings either. That's against County batsmen - against Indian batsmen, it'll be counter productive if Root uses him more in 1st innings. Either ENG should have used a SLAO spinner or straight 4 pacers + Moeen. I think, at Oval, Rashid'll make way for Woakes if he is fit and they'll drop one of the openers, if not both.

India have done very well again much to my disappointment. Seems as if England winning the toss then batting keeps backfiring on them. It would be a great result for India if they can reduce England to 200.

Ideally, ENG should try to blast out for next 20-25 minutes; bowl 8-10 overs tonight and come back with semi old ball next morning. I have noticed, these Dukes balls actually start swinging more & late starting at around 12 overs' mark.

India need to get a lead of about 150 in the 1st innings to be ahead in the game.
Else I see England winning.

This is a poor total , after winning the toss. Failures of Root and Cook hurting them.

Eng getting some runs. Hit 40-50 more and they will be in safe position.

England batting has been horrible throughout , Even if India make this one innings shoot out , India will be ahead.

100 might be enough, but a decent lead is extremely important. This wicket is going to get faster and if there is some cloud, even on flatest of wickets batting is challenging because of the swing. AT this point, I think Poms are more than happy from 83/6 than IND should be.

It's a two innings game, and ENG has got out of jail for 83/6 or so. I can recall Eden Test in 1999, when PAK went to 183 from 25/6 or so. I am sure, it won't be easy to bat on Day 2 either, and probably the best day for batting will be Day 3 if Sun comes out. Cook is understandable, but surprised to see Root like this - he was rated to be best since Compton!!!!

To be honest I don't see India chasing more than 150 in the second dig.150+ and England are firm favourites

The runs keep flowing...unbelievable.

In low scoring games, 20 & 30s from bottom half often are the game decider. ENG actually is significantly ahead in that scope, while IND's last 3 won't add much. Still, I think up to 200 is chase-able, but here Poms are putting a good fight for a meaningful total.

Eng should win this test. Kohli is the one they need to get cheaply. None of other Indian batsmen have gone big.

Add in another inevitable 50-60 runs for the last wicket and they'll get to 300. From 80/6!
