England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 1 | Match Thread

England batting at Pakistan-esque run rate.... that in itself is an achievement because they are playing at home and chose to bat first
 
A few years ago at Lord's against New Zealand, Stokes came in at 4 down for not much and smacked a 92 that got them to nearly 400.

He's dangerous when he gets set and frees his arms so need him gone early.
 
Good battle between Hasan and stokes here, hes a dangerous player so we need him out.
 
For me, the job of Faheem Ashraf in this spell is done . . 1 wicket . . 3 good overs . .bring back amir for 2 3 overs while stokes is still new at the crease and then give to shadab until lunch . . Amir was getting the ball to swing. beat the bat a few times

Hassan will get him.
 
Stokes was terrible in IPL. Looked totally out of touch with both bat and ball.

Lets see how he performs in the longer format.
 
We need to get cook in this hour or this could end up getting really tricky for us if he somehow bat's through here.

Need to get him ASAP

He's not the most free flowing of batsmen, doesn't always look like he's in, but his strength has been his determination and stubbornness. Every time he's in a bad patch of form and written off, he comes back.

He'll have more time here to get some form back..harder in ODI's to regain form..

Why dont PCB and Management do Amir a Favour.👍 Drop him from Test for good and invest in new fast bowler for the future. For 2 reasons.

1. Amir body language suggests he is not interested anymore and dont want to put any extra effort in order to protect his body from any injuries.

2. Amir needs to understand that if he has long goals to become the best bowler like wasim akram, he needs to proof his worth in Test Cricket, hell even when wasim akram was in his late 30s he was running in with same energy and effort like when he was 18 yrs old. Its better to invest in someone new than Amir if he thinks he can only play in ODI cricket. He always have the talent but he will not be remembered as someone great.
 
I think an England first innings total of about 230 would leave the match evenly balanced, given that Pakistan has to bat last.
 
Amir picked up 5 wickets in the last test and PP'ers are acting as if he has gone five matches without a wicket :))
 
No matter what situation, England seem to be 100-4 every time these days and the bowlers have to dig them out.

This is the weakest England top order ever. Even in the nadir of 1999 we had Athers, Stewie and Nasser.
 
This is where captain needs to step in and take a decision. Hasan and Shadab are leaking runs
 
Not sure how effective Shadab can be on a Day 1 wicket outside Asia.

Amir tends to bowl better against left handers so hopefully he can step up and snare one of these.
 
This is where we needed an off-spinner. He would have made short work of Stokes and/or Cook.
 
Stokes has come in and put England in the driving seat...
 
Seen England's lower order counterattack from positions like this many time. Shadab must keep it tight.
 
I hope now the lovers of tuk tuk on PP realize what can happen if you play positive cricket in tests. Cook was playing Azhar Ali-esque innings yet Pak always felt on top. Stokes has come in and played nice positive cricket at SR of 70 odd and suddenly Pakistan are on the backfoot and looking helpless.
 
Mr. Captain needs to take decision regarding bowling changes. Perhaps introduce Harry to atleast stem the flow of runs from one end.

Would be good to see aamir’s pitchmap in this innings. Pretty sure he has been shorter than the other bowlers
