What's new

England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

I think, your examples are not appropriate - Fahim doesn't make in a 6+4 combination. I put it other way - 214/4 with 70 overs old ball - instead of Captain, Fakhar comes to bat .......

Shadab is there for his spin, not batting; he won't have been there had Yasir been fit - won't be there in near future either if PAK goes with 1 spinner strategy.

Even so, he's done well enough for where he's batting. It's too soon to say he's a better version of Shahid Afridi, but he's fulfilling his role well. He's batted sensibly and if you consider it, him and Faheem saw off the second new ball in devastating fashion.

This is appropriate.

This exactly what some people said...

They wanted Wahab Riaz/Rahat Ali instead of Faheem as the pacer.

They wanted Imad Wasim/Usama Mir instead of Shadab Khan as spinner.

This Pak team is underrated.

Pak has an excellent ODI team now due to the emergence of Fakar, Hasan Ali, Shadab and to some extent Faheem.

But your Test team is still raw. Talent is there, but they need time to gain confidence. This performance is a bit unexpected for me.

Credit where it is due. Pak will be a very good Test team in the future. They have all the ingredients. Just Fakar needs to get in the team.

I think, from now on PAK'll go with 5 bowlers including Shadab & Fahim. Depending on venue, a spinner or Amir/Abbas will play.

Was about to type that Cook has had a horrid year in the slips.

Just as I check, he drops another.

Faheem has TWICE the number of boundaries than Izamam’s nephew in his Test career!! Imagine Fakhar in Imam place.

Spineless performance by England. Poor batting, poor bowling and their shoulders have dropped in the field.

They are not going anywhere in Test cricket, and their Test giants are a dying breed.

It appears that they are directing all their resources to LOI cricket at this point. This is comfortably the worst English Test team I have seen since the late 90’s.

Bad luck for IND - Poms made a blunder on the first Test of summer, which happens to be against PAK. Now, I can see their bottom half - Stokes, Woakes, Berbi, Wood, Jimmy - may be Mo'll come back for his spin (should, much better than Malan or Stoneman with bat).

:)))

When Pakistan do well England are terrible mediocre and a dying breed.

Before that they were a “world class team in home conditions”

Two drops and you are here.. Lol

Nasser is one of the best cricket minds of the game; probably he is earning much more from Sky, otherwise, he was destined to be a Woolmerisque Coach. Athers is a great batting technician, with a Cambridge blue (means he can express with right words), but not bold enough to be a coach.

Nasser and Atherton are indeed brilliant to listen. Sky has the best cricket coverage in the world. Another good thing being that both Nasser and Athers love Pakistan cricket in general.

By the way England could really use someone like Nasser as a strategist.

Great back foot shot. These two deserve to reach their fifties.

Lead 134 - 73 partnership of 89 balls. Excellent stuff

300+ score in early May conditions in England.

What a fluke guys! No hope for this team :srt

We were told that these guys wouldn’t be able to hold a bat in “early season English conditions”

I told you - you are digging own hole. Bowling was NEVER, NEVER a question for UK (Won't be in AUS either, or SAF - if instead of cookies and coffees, PCB spends some money to send 4/5 pacers for an A tour every year like BCCI does), as long as fielders don't drop by dozen.

It was always batting and Azhar did exactly what his perfect role - saved top order, against new Dukes ball for 35 overs. If only Haris was groomed to play 10-12 hours innings in QeA style, Poms would have been crying by now - and this is 2nd Day......................

I'm pleasantly surprised by this awesome performance by Pakistan so far. Didn't think our batters would do much against Anderson and Broad, but they have absolutely blitzed them to the ground here.

Faheem Ashraf will turn out to be a great asset for Pakistan cricket. You just knew he had something special.

10 overs left and spinner round the the corner. If we be sensible lead could be 180 tonight

That won't happen with Strauss in charge - Nass is too stubborn, proud and uncompromising. Retired on his 99th Test!!!!

My fear is, next time PAK tours, Cook might be in charge as a Coach - he fits ECB's bill perfectly :(

In fact, PCB should rope him as a Director Cricket even keeping Sky job.

Fahim should stick to attacking shots. His defensive technique is not going to hold up at this level.

Good little knock from fahim. Amir and hasan need to stick around here. Shadab needs to take charge here

Anderson has his tail up, albeit a couple of hours too late.

Let's see if we're in for an Amir special now. Every now and then he surprises you with a top notch batting innings.

Don’t think appointing Nasser etc. will make a difference. England are done in Test cricket, and they have successfully transitioned to LOIs now.

They won’t produce the likes of Cook, Anderson, Broad, Trott, Swann etc. anymore.

Man! Imagine if Rahat Ali played instead of Hasan or Amir! Imagine him bowling in the first innings! Now imagine if he came in to bat right now! What would happen?

Not every team is in “terminal decline”.

You are damaging your reputation with this subliminal display of trolling.

Faheem has really showed his worth at this level. Took a crucial wicket at crucial time and now some really match changing runs like he did against Ireland as well. Kudos to Shaddy as well.

Klusner!

They'll lose the first KO in 2019 WC - the SF. Their Kungfu style won't work, when the stake is higher. ECB appointed an Aussie coach, but they need Aussie mentality first.

You can mark this post.

Why did he not retire after his 100th test? Would have made more sense. So he isn't doing anything for Essex either?

If he is stubborn then he won't survive any Pak job either. Even Mickey had to change things the way he did as he told to Athers. The PCB loves Misbah types and he will probably be the next guy taking that sort of position.
