What's new

England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 3 | Match Thread

Three un-necessary players on hook. There should be none. And get a short leg in. And one of that in slip. And one in galley. Leave a gap on the cover, and slant the ball if it's not reversing, asking them to drive, as that will bring the slips & catching in. Pitch the ball up for that. Not short.

I still think with bess we should be looking to get the edge rather than bouncing him out

Will washed tomarrow.
On Day 5, well dismiss them at Lunch. Then we’ll collapse for 70/9 with pace swing under clouds

Repeat of poor captaincy and losing the plot. Attack vs saving runs when you have the lead.

OK, question - what is more valuable:

A: 15+10 runs & 58 overs of Yasir; or
B: 52+25 runs & 48 overs from Shadab?

Times like these, i wish we had someone like shoaib akhtar, who could kill the batsman with sheer amount of pace. All we have are medium pacers, who only work when ball is doing something.

We have been successful when pitching the ball up and now Hassan is only bowling short.

They don't even need to bowl a perfect yorker just a good full-length delivery also does the trick.

Azhar mehmood himself was a mediocre bowler, and he could never get the tail finish. How would he impart these things to bowlers?

Bowl wide, & away till we get new ball. Thats what England did if someone noticed yesterday against us.

This is sloppy from PAK, and this happened in IRL as well - bottom half of order putting resistance from a hopeless situation.

Which, indicates what Sohaib said actually is fact - even with 5 bowlers, 80 overs work out in a day is too much for 2nd innings. This won't change, unless QeA style is moved from OCT-DEC period with 65 overs/day in nice, cool autumn/early winter weather.

Only man in slip. yar, this is tail. How come we get wickets if we are busy saving runs.

He's not obsessed with stats, he's just a terrible commentator.

If he isn't able to tell the same old anecdotes we've heard dozens times before about reverse swing or the 1990's players then the only thing he can do is read whatever is on screen as though the viewer can't see it.

Watch, all he does is read the on screen graphic aloud or just narrate the action exactly. You'll be watching a slow motion replay and instead of any explanation as to the mindset of a player, the tactics they should be employing or anything like that you will just get "Pitched it up, half volley, batsman on front foot and cover drive, ball went to boundary, four runs"

Lol you've summed it up nicely. I ain't a big fan of Ramiz but for all his flaws, he does manage to produce a few analytical pieces of his own on the live action instead of either relying on his fellow commies to influence his judgement or repeating the on-screen graphics like a parrot. Something Wasim & Waqar are renowned for, obvious lack of skill & creativity in com-box.

Butler can play all day long against Abbas like that. Time to waste deliveries before we get new ball. Save runs in the mean time.

No silly leg or any fielder in catching except slip. Poor captaincy by Sarfraz

Looks like nothing will happen until the second new ball which probably won't be taken until tomorrow morning.

Shadab could really do with a decent top spinner in his armoury, too easy to play him off the back foot when there's not much in the pitch.

If they surpass 100 lead, Butler won't stop, and they could set a target of 200+

This is the problem with an extra batsman, usually always strengthens the batting line up. Just an extra player for the tail to bat with.

With an extra bowler, if the other four aren't doing it, chances is the fifth best bowler isn't going to do it either.
