England vs Pakistan | 4th ODI | Nottingham | May 17th, 2019 | Pakistan innings

But if these two bat deep into the innings he will have to accelerate against Joffra Archer a tough proposition for him even on a road like this.

Yes, we are only making things worse for us if we have too many runs to score in the last 12 overs.

Won't get to a good total.

Bowling skills of these bowlers are okay. But bowling strategy is one-dimension. No slower balls, no slow bouncers, no wide yorkers. They purely rely on raking up huge scores. Not upto speed with modern day restrictive bowling.

Don't judge Archer and Wood by how they bowl against Pakistan. I've seen Archer get some epic phainty by Australian domestic batsmen. This is a very poor English bowling attack and could be taken to the cleaners by NZ, India, Australia.

Exactly.

We don't need Imam who generally slows things down a lot, particularly on flat/batting wickets.

Imam is there to stay, at least for few months, even if PAK has a horrible WC. What they need to do is put FZ at 3 or may be even 4 as Hari is better against pace. Looking at the batting conditions in May, PAK's ideal batting line-up for WC should have been

Imam, Babar, Haris, FZ, Sarfraz, Umar, MoHa/Asif .....

It’s a hunch. I anticipate a better bowling performance by Pakistan and an inferior batting performance by England today.

They are batting deep precisely for that. They need just 3 of their batsmen to click to hunt down anything infront of them. Won last 20 matches in ENgland chasing with one tie.

Pakistan has already played him well and I have a feeling he will be taken to the cleaners by the pak batters today.

Fakhar needs a move on here. Rotating the strike at this stage is not his role.

I know you are hypercritical of Pakistani players, but Babar is world class. I will keep saying this, and the critics can keep swallowing their words when he proves me right.

Most people agree that he is world class so you are not showing any foresight here. However, the critics think that he can be a much better player than this and I think they are right.

Ability wise he is a damn good player, but his mentality is quite mediocre. A batsman like him should have had more than a solitary hundred against India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England by now.

If he had half of Imam’s grit and composure, he could have been a top 3 ODI player by now.

either england bowling too good or we unable to capitalize the small ground... comon now both should be batting at 150+SR

Fakhar and Babar make a solid left right opening combo, this has been our best start for sometime

England is shooting in their own foot by preparing pitches like this in the long run. This will kill their bowlers. THe day Bairstow and a couple of others hit a rough patch they will be struggling.

Pakistan experimenting here, which might blow up in our face.

Two of Hafeez, Malik and Asif will play. All three have been given the center stage to stake a claim.

Does any team in WC will have two 50plus averaging openers like Pakistan? These two Imam and Fakhar are going to make a decade long opening pair for Pakistan.

Is there any x-ray update of imam?

Fair point, perhaps the desire of the really top players is missing. Ability-wise he is in a different league from the rest of the Pakistan batting line up.

I take this, purpose of this match for England is decide who to retain between Archer/Denly/Wood.

couldn't ask for a better ground... I still think MAlik will fail

If there were ever a case for ball tampering, it’s this five game series.

Oh God the next batsmen are Hafeez, Sarfaraz and Malik. :danish

One wicket and we will collapse to 150 all out.

bro, thoughts on pak top4(imam, fakhar, babar, haris)?

Imam - not very talented, but his temperament is fantastic, his technique is solid and he has a huge appetite for scoring big. He needs to improve his SR, but he is a wonderful find for Pakistan. Our most reliable batsman in my opinion. Almost always comes good when the team is struggling.

Fakhar - not my cup of tea. I don’t like his batting style and I think he can easily be caught in a web if the the bowlers bowl to him with a plan.

I recognize his importance to the team because of his aggressive style, but I feel that always needs to ride his luck in order to score runs. If I were the selector, I would be looking at ways of replacing him.

Babar - talent wise, he is as good as anyone. However, he has not maximized his potential because he has a soft underbelly. If he can work on his mentality, he can break almost every batting record of Pakistan. At the moment, I don’t see him a trustworthy option under pressure.

Haris - similar to Babar in most respects. Very talented, but his attitude is questionable. His dodgy fitness and lazy attitude means that he is not someone who can be relied upon. I doubt if he has the fitness and the durability to play 9 games in the World Cup. Needs to be in the team though, he is the best bet for number 4 at this point.

Imam's injury might be a blessing in disguise in this match and in the WC, if means Babar moves up one and opens.

I've always wanted to see Fakar, Babar and Haris batting in the top 3. Imam has progressed well, but felt he should be the automatic starter after the WC.

Its fine - Denly bowling well here. No need to risk anything yet. 6 an over till the 25th should be good.

They can open up after the 150 mark in 25.

With our bowling we wont be defending anything unless Hafeez pulls a surprise with the ball.

400+ pitch and RR is under 6. Unless Fakhar and Hafeez fire we will not even score 320. Pathetic batting by Babar.

We cannot beat them with pace, maybe we should have tried playing 3 spinners, two specialist (no Yasir, but a quality spinner). Between 2010-2015 Pakistan survived in ODIs with spinners, we can find quality wrist spinners in domestic circuit... We need to think something out of the box!!

Resembles a Left handed Malik :p

This is a good base for a 350 plus score which is the bare minimum, but the problem is going to be when the push comes to accelerate. Who will hit the big 6's?

Fakhar's off side game is a sign of little worry, struggling to hit boundaries on the off side. We can't afford our best and only modern day batsman to struggle on one side ..Grant flower trying his best to ruin him

If Hafeez is still there at the end he can accelerate better than Imad and even Asif Ali.

Babar is technically the best but from what I can recall, has yet to score 50+ in a match winning cause against the top 5 (SENAI).

Pakistan can only win on 300+ wickets if Fakhar gets going. He was the reason why the CT final was won and why the team was able to record their highest chase (187-188 runs) last year in the T20 tri-series held in Zimbabwe.

Your analysis on Haris and Imam is spot on.

Damn its a wonderful sight when both bats hit 50s one after another.... that would be a definite psychological blow for the opposition.

people are asking for a 350 total seriously?? this is a 420+ ground/wicket.

Excellent now both are set, they need to go big and that too at a good pace
