Fakhar Zaman's brilliant 193 in vain as South Africa [341/6] defeat Pakistan [324/9] by 17 runs

What a third rate player this phelu is. Sarfaraz should have called him that instead of taking a racist jibe. Would have been a hero in my book.
 
Babar just did not show the belief required for these big run chases. Most disappointing thing so far this innings. No gameplan whatsoever and the shot to get dismissed clearly showed he was rattled by the magnitude of task ahead
 
such a shame to see the obsession with personal milestones, milking the sixth bowler when u need 10/over just to get to a hundred

wont be surprised if he gets out straight after playing an ugly hoick
 
I wont be surprised if this was Asif’s last ODI and he got the opportunities in this series mainly due to the bubble. Unless he completely turns around his career in T20Is, it would be difficult coming back.

Outside of Fakhar and Babar, everyone has been below the score of 20.

This is what happens when you pick mediocre players. 2 of those top 6 batsmen don't even belong in ODI's whatsoever.

I am an Indian so please don’t take me in wrong way but Asif is genuinely not an international quality batsman. At best he can hack at no.6 in PSL, IPL etc. His only scoring shot is slog over mid wicket. It is frustrating to watch his batting. I hope Pak management gets permanently rid of him.
 
Could have been a match winning knock for Fakhar if the Pakistan batsmen were even half decent today.

Great knock for him though and I really hope that 17/18 version of Fakhar is back.
 
Good knock from Fakhar taking everything into account. Could have been much better if any of the other batsmen could have sticked around.
 
Fakhar showing that after getting set likes of nortje can also be handled easily
 
How come Bavuma get into this team, leave alone the captain? He can't bat at ODI level, can't field, looks more confused than Kohli.

Faheem was really Pakistan's last hope...Zaman has no batsman he can trust now.

But ets talk about Nortje, he has been phenomenal in this series! So much fire and bounce.
 
Fakhar should have accelerated little earlier no point playing markram with caution
 
This is a superb innings by Fakhar. Pakistan has a very competitive and diverse top 4. If they can also steady 5,6 they will be a really tough team.
 
Hasnain should model his bowling to Nortje style. He can match him for pace but needs to be aggressive and use his height to attack the batsman

I wish Nortje showed more aggression on the field like Steyn and Shoaib. His body language is like a good boy just like Pat Cummins, Bumrah. We don’t have many hostile fast bowlers these days.
 
See, the difference between Fakhar and Imam is that if Imam scores a 60 ball 40, he can't accelerate to 110 ball-120. Fakhar has the game to accelerate from a 60 ball-40 to 110 ball-120 and that is where the difference is visible.

Not comparing but just an example, Rohit Sharma takes some time to get his eyes in and he can afford to be at 60-ball 40 because he knows he can hit 50 off next 15 balls and cover up for that.

This is why Fakhar should open alongside Rizwan and Babar should bat at 3. Rizwan's best bet is as opener only.

Your analysis is spot on and I completely agree. Thing is he was hitting a few around in leagues and domestic cricket and Pak’s desperation to find a player who can clear fence led to him which one can maybe accept in T20s but not ODIs. Lack of power hitting options have been a big problem for Pak and that is why you usually would have seen poor finish to the matches and innings from Pak so that has led to mediocre selections.

Imam is consistent and Fakhar not even half consistent.......problem is we keep Haris Sohail Sharjeel out on fitness ground and play fit but not good players like shadab Asif
 
The match doesn't matter. Fakhar Zaman finding more is more important than winning a series that we'll win in the next game anyways. If you had told me that Pakistan would lose but Fakhar would score a century, I would have taken it.

Fair point. Thing is Fakhar is one of the very few such batsmen Pak have and other options in opening are Sharjeel... I guess pretty much thats it and both of them are technically not the best unless we want to consider Rizwan with his recent development. On the other hand Imam is one of the few openers who can play some quality new ball bowling on his day as some other openers are technically well equipped.

It would be ideal for Pak if both openers can push the game when set but at the moment its a not really a clear scenario with none being a perfect option.

NRR is important though as this series is part of WCSL.

We don't want to be dragged through Qualifiers against Venezuela and Uganda.

You have Babar and Rizwan for that and probably Haris also once back. Don't need another anchor in it. It becomes a problem in a 300+ chase.

Fakhar is a left hander, attacking batsman who can score hundreds, averages 47 at strike rate of 95 and should be persisted.

As an example, if Babar and Fakhar scores, 330 chase is possible.

If Babar and Imam scores, 330 chase is still not possible. They are good for 270-280 chase.
