PESHAWAR: A cricket team from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) will participate in third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Zafar Iqbal Jhagra said on Tuesday.

“The PSL administration will be approached in this regard,” Jhagra expressed these remarks at an award distribution ceremony in the tribal region. The governor awarded Rs10,000 each to students who secured first position in their respective specialty. Moreover, Rs100,000 were awarded to each respective teacher.

The K-P governor said the government was focusing not only on curricular but extracurricular activities of students in Fata. “There is no dearth of talent among students and providing basic opportunities to the students of Fata is the need of the hour,” he said.

Jhagra further said that ensuring improvement in education and health sectors in Fata was the top most priority of the incumbent government, claiming it was expected to have a positive impact in the region. “We have also opened up a university in Fata.”

The governor went on to claim that the government was also focused on dignified return of the temporary displaced persons to their native areas across the province.

Fata Secretary Social Sector Department Yosuaf Raheem, Secretary Production Abdul Latif, Director Education Hashim Khan, Additional Director Education Muhammad Abbas Khan were also present on the occasion.

Pakistan recently hosted the second edition of PSL in the UAE due to security concerns in the country. However, the final match, won by Peshawar Zalmi, was played in Lahore amid strict security.

Just recently it was said that the region of FATA would be merged with KPK, so why make a team when this area would be merged with a province.

besides, a FATA franchise would be worth of less money. A franchise by the name of Sialkot would be sold at much higher price.

It is just a governor's wish and not the actual stated position of the PSL administration.

A franchise for Sialkot is not feasible at all. Faisalabad and Hyderabad have a much larger population.

its not about population. its about which city is well known and could attract more business men willing to buy a team. Pretty much which team has more demand. Obviously, if the sports industry people of sialkot get involve they will pay top dime to get this team.

FATA won't have that much high demand, same goes for Hyderabad.

Population matters. Who is going to support Sialkot? Like who is going to buy the merchandise for the team for that matter. That's why Karachi's team cost the highest.

thats why i cannot trust the PML-N guys. one 1 side they are merging FATA with KPK and on the other side their governor is talking about separate team of FATA

same way people support quetta and islamabad. not big population, but yet have following

People of Rawalpindi support ISLU because they dont have a team of their own and we all saw how much Quetta was supported in the final and Sialkot has even lesser population than Quetta.

There are several people who would buy all psl, these guy built their own airport.

It's not about buying a team sure they can invest but from where will they get the return in their investment?...There is a reason why India is the most marketable country in cricket.Population.Same applies here.

Multan should be the front runner along with Kashmir for the 6th team.

Its a surprise how little PPers know about Pakistan. Franchise teams are supported not by the city after the team is named but the whole area close by. In cricketing sense , Sialkot region also include Gujranwala which is almost two times bigger than Sialkot and many other cities including Gujrat and Sheikhupura. The whole area is densely populated and is very industrialized.

Sialkot team in PSL, will have a huge following and commercially very successful. Only other city which can compete with Sialkot and still doesn;t have team of its own is Faisalabad.

Faisalabad v Lahore would be PSL version of Merseyside derby.

Multan is most populated considering the surrounding areas.as whole of south punjab does't have any team in psl.

Faisalabad has a vibrant, passionate crowd.

I'd give that city a team. I'm sure they'll turn up in droves when the PSL goes back to Pakistan eventually.

That is a good thought... I don't want to be racist but there is already a 'Punjabi' side in the PSL. Wouldn't it be better if we let the Kashmiris have a side of their own or the Seraiki people of Multan to have a side of their own?

One more benefit of a Kashmiri side would be that ALL of Occupied Kashmir will automatically root for it aswell.

Just a political statement nothing else. I am sure the Governor wouldn't even know anything about cricket.

Sialkot region generally represents the entire Gujranwala division and Gujuranwala as you might know, is the most populated division in Pakistan.

Kashmir team makes no sense. One, it would mean we are accepting the status quo with reagrds to Kashmir and two, Kashmir doesnot have infrastructure that Sialkot or Multan would have,
As for another Punjabi team, they make up approx 70% of the population so another team is nit that bad of an idea.

punjab and sindh should have two teams each and 1 from kashmir.

Multani saeen
hyderabadi bhayyay
mirpuri londay

Multan would also be a Punjab based side, but in principle I agree, there should definitely be a side from Kashmir represented. There should be more teams in general, I am assuming the only reason there isn't is because there isn't enough quality players to go around. Or funds for that matter.

I aint gonna see a Multan team thats a sure:while having the Likes of Kashmir getting the 6th place

7th would be taken by Faisalabad and the last would be Hyderabad.

Multan and Sialkot would most probably get ignored due to Faisalabad's inclusion as the 2nd side from Punjab

But alas for the cunning organisers they might replace Hyderabad for Most likely Multan or Sialkot

Maybe should devise a system to relegate the bottom placed team from the next season from a pool of 7/8 teams max

e.g. Bottom team is dropped from next PSL and the remaining 7 play the next.
the Bottom from them is replace by the one sitting out, This way the competition will get a bit more intense from the bottom aswell unlike the 4 out 5 playing playoffs(should have been 3 out 5) and would divide the funds better among the playing teams only

What is the procedure of selling teams in PSL? Is it by an auction or just by political allotments based on population size or voting?

A franchise by definition can't be relegated since all the franchises are equal stakeholders in the PSL. It is not a league, it is a franchise tournament.

what would be the name?
FATA Lalas? FATA Storm? FATA United? FATA Mountaineers? FATA Niswarians? Feta cheese FATA?
