"I am hopeful of making a comeback if I get enough support from senior players": Umar Akmal

Umar Akmal was gifter player but he chose not to use his skills and instead flew away towards social media stuff and doing funny stuff off te field. He should still be focusing on making a comeback, he can play for 2 more years in t20 side, but he has to have an outstanding domestic season for that.

we dont need him

Nobody needs him but he should focus on his game rather than making such statements.

As per reports:

Amid Ahmed Shehzad's mid-match exit during the WAPDA vs SNGPL game, a formal complaint against Shehzad, alleging a breach of domestic cricket rules has been filed, and if found guilty, there could be a two-match suspension for WAPDA's captain, Umar Akmal.

Only in Pakistan where babas like Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad who made there debuts almost 15 years ago are desperate to make a comeback.
Abhi tou mein jawan hoon.

14 years ago, Akmal’s “senior players” were the likes of YK and Shahid Afridi. Today his senior players are Rizwan and Shaheen. Between these years, Akmal didn’t grow at all.
Have selective amnesia and wants to make a comeback.

It’s like Calvin’s sneakers being taken away from him in Like Mike. Someone’s taken Umar’s magic away, what a sad sight man.

Umar Akmal shares his plans for the future while speaking to local media:

"Each franchise has its own choice; the owners and coaches have their own preferences. But before this, in all the seasons I have played in the PSL, my performance is in front of everyone. If they didn't pick me this season, I won't hold anyone responsible, and I haven't complained about anyone. If I'm not playing this season, and if it wasn't in my fate, then, Inshallah, the time has come. I am doing my training, practicing, and playing club cricket at my Model Town Cricket Center. I am playing club matches, and Inshallah, I will make a strong comeback in the next season."

"For those whose this season of PSL is going well, the more they can grab the opportunity, the better it is. Because this cricket doesn't belong to anyone; it salutes the rising sun. If they play well this season, only then will they secure the next 2-3 seasons."

Scored 5887 international runs for Pakistan

100 in his maiden ODI series

Fourth-highest individual innings in T20Is for Pakistan

Only Pakistani batsman to score hundred on Test debut against New Zealand outside Asia.

On this day in 1990, a talented and explosive right-handed batter, Umar Akmal was born.

Happy Birthday to him.

Does he have a few games left in him?

I don't get it? Why can't players like sharjeel, Umar, Shehzad play in PSL? Just let them play and pick them for drafts at even bare bone prices.

At this point they just wish to play. You don't have to select them in international, but it's just league cricket that doesn't have international pressure and fans rushing to gut you at every turn?

Pakistan don’t want to manage complex characters due to their own lack of leadership ability and need to maintain the status quo. God forbid Umar or someone outside the Kliq do well in PSL and show up selfish players like Rizwan.

Why would he displace rizzu though? In a fair and just system, Rizzu's competiton would be fakhar or other openers.

Lol, not that fakhar vs Rizwan would be up for contention in any other country except Pakistan 😂. Even Bangladesh wouldn't do something as stupid as having rizwan open over fakhar

That’s not the point whether he would or not, if you read carefully and very slowly - ‘Selfish players like Riswan’, Mr. Rizwan is the gold standard of selfishness, hence he needed to be used here for example purposes. There’s a certain archetype which Pakistan have wanted in their team to be eligible for selection, if the suicide squad starts scoring runs and doing well in the PSL, then it puts pressure on the cake cutting regime to pick them, and that’s not something they want.

As for the direct comparison, since you mentioned it, Umar as a T20 player is levels above Rizwan and would do a better job exploiting the PP overs. But Umar’s competition is the System, and Riswan’s competition is anybody else who impresses Babar with a twerk.

Sharjeel was in lethal form even before the PSL, pretty sure he did very well in a FC game which is considerably more difficult to be aggressive in compared to a T20 game with random lanju panju bowlers to face. If Sharjeel played in the PSL, it would have been a bloodbath, a massacre of the bowlers, and more importantly, Babar/Riz jodii would get broken in half at the top as well, can’t have that.

It’s up to the franchises to pick them. It’s clear there is no interest from any of the teams. They can wish all they want, but the PSL isn’t the make a wish foundation for underprivileged kids.

Sharjeel is not wanted by people who want to make money, they don't find him useful

Azam Khan is the new Sharjeel.

He is clearly better then a vast number of PSL participants, the fact that he didn’t get picked, is more to do with management creating barriers rather then how good or bad he is, on his worst day he still makes the squad of any T20 team. You know what has happened here.

Sharjeel khan unpicked by Shan Masood, Yasir Khan, Haseebullah, Rizwan and Babar all great T20 openers..

Hahahaahhahahahahahaahaahahhahahaahha

And people have the audacity to use this against him, and the thing is it has worked because now he is falsely being made out to be a village cricketer by ignorant people. When those in charge, by keeping him out, served their own interest.

Shan Masood, Yasir Khan, Haseebullah, Rizwan and Babar have all committed crimes on the level of spot fixing, if not worse, those who can’t see this should be ashamed of themselves. The Pakistani team has been held hostage by thieves, it shouldn’t be supported until the situation improves.

The more I dig deeper, the more I uncover some dark and disturbing occurrences, but I wont be silenced on this.

Management saw someone they didn't want in their ranks - remember they are around to earn money and not support whims and fantasies of individuals.

Whims and fantasies which involve doing better for Pakistan, it’s funny how we will forget our morals to justify thuggery when it suits our agendas, the management are a bunch of criminals, the same who we get upset about putting IK behind bars, where is the outrage for the injustice which has happened to Sharjeel, now it has become about money all of a sudden - a jewish invention.

Sharjeel disgraced himself by getting himself banned. He would have been able to establish himself in the team when he was at his peak, had he not gone and stupidly got himself caught up with Khalid Latif and Nasir Jamshed.

Why are we always blaming everyone else besides the individual himself?

Did anyone point a gun to Sarfraz’s head and ask him to become unfit and useless as a cricketer, before he was booted?

Did anyone else eat all those parathas, niharis etc and come back an inflated balloon like Sharjeel did after his ban was lifted? Why couldn’t he have maintained himself like Amir did, despite serving a much shorter sentence? Who’s fault is that?

All the Karachi lobby does is cry about these two.

Mate the phew is from Birmingham and not Karachi get that right, why is it that all the special needs party do is defend Rizwan in-spite of Pakistan’s success, you talk about fitness and the guy needed emergency oxygen after attempting lofted shots, he’s always cramping, maybe he could eat a bit, or is he poor. Sharjeel is in terrific form and more qualified to open the innings then that 2 bit cricketer

Because franchises will have a net negative impact both on and off field. Shahzad did perform last season and could've been picked but hard luck.

Sharjeel failed to perform for KK for years and was rightly dropped.

Umar. The less said about the better. Last time he played in Ramadan Tournament. He got out on duck twice getting stumped against some random street kid.

‘Mate’ where did I mention Rizwan or Misbah in my post?

Sharjeel was the defacto opener for Pakistan in 2016, it’s his fault he got himself involved in shady proceedings.

When he came back, he was over-weight and unfit to play international cricket. He was selected in South Africa to play two T20Is btw. Didn’t perform aswell as he should have.

Why not, are Rizwan and Misbah sensitive topics 🤔 you talked about form and fitness, I just exposed a regular of the team. Mr. Azam Khan is in the team to though I admit he is still a better option then Rizwan. So Sharjeel is fit enough to play FC cricket but not good enough to be in contention for T20’s, he’s in the shape of his life

The issue is less about dropping sarfraz and more about what the coach appointed did.

You have a team that is consistently getting wins in t20 facing teams that are strong. Such as whitewashing an Australian team that may have been half strength but still included the likes of maxwell, stones and finch, so it was still an A to B string team.

This aussie team would murder NZ c team and Irish team that Pakistan played or the Zimbabwe team that Pakistan lost to.

Pakistan started losing because the coach haphazardly decided to change the entire structure. You tinker with a winning squad here and their but you don't overhaul it completly.

No one pointed a gun at misbah's head and asked him to establish a shadab, kushdil shah , Chacha and Asif combo when asif had been dropped permanently and Chavha, Kushdil weren't even centrally contracted players or ever in a pool of 30 and shadab wasn't a batter and played at no 9 as a legspinner in the tail.

No one asked him to bring shehzad, Imam, Rizwan at opening etc. If ba/riz opening combo was succeaful, then no one would break it up, and this combo wouldn't hilariously crash in 2022 and keep getting questioned 24/7 on its patheticly low SR.

Similarly no one asked misbah to pick husnain, unar akmal and these munafiqs.

People keep bringing up rizwan, Babar, Chacha, Shadab etc etc because these guys even 4 years later are permanent mainstays and have caused defeats. Ba/riz opening combo was in place when we got butchered by Zimbabwe.

So unfortunately you will have to deal with alot of posters who are understanbly upset at what misbah and now what babar did.

If sarfraz was unfit, cool replace with him rizwan, Muhammad haris etc etc and have them bat at no 7 where sarfi would bat. If one bowler is unfit, replace them for a psl top taking bowler.

Who asked the entire team structure to completly change? With the previous winning team just getting flagged into oblivion?

Rizwan being unfit in your eyes doesn’t mean how Sharjeel has carried himself so far is right.

Rizwan, Fakhar, Babar etc weren’t even in the picture when he had established himself as Pakistan’s opener in all forms of cricket. He threw it away by spot fixing and tarnishing his own name. He would have been welcomed back like Amir had he been as good as he was back when he was banned. He was consistently outperformed in the PSL aswell by quite a few players, including the younger crop like Saim and Haris.

He was still selected to be part of the team in South Africa in 2020/21 if I remember correctly. Didn’t do too much.

Sharjeel had everything and he threw it all away, and should infact be blamed for all the moaning posters like yourself have done here day-in day-out.

Had Sharjeel not got himself banned, he would have definitely opened with Fakhar once Khalid Latif and Ahmed Shehzad were inevitably going to be dropped for being rubbish

Was in Australia in 2009 and the only good thing about that tour was the emergence of Umar Akmal. Probably the most talented Pakistani batsman in a decade and once again PCB management bottled it

He really could have been special.

Sharjeel flopped in Sindh league lol. sharjeel was a flop at international level after getting a million chances.

Umar Akmal, like Sharjeel, has done more in his last 6-8 matches across formats, then Rizwan has done in his entire LOI career, he can never dream to bat like these special talents in the longer formats so forget about T20’s.

Which player do you like? I'm curious to know what your t20 squad would even look like? Since you advocated Abdullah shafiq and rizwan batting at 5?

Like seriously what is your playing 11?

1) Abdullah Shafiq
2) Babar Azam
3) ????
4) Fakhar
5) Rizwan
6) ?????
7) ?????
8-11) ?????

This t20 lineup of yours based of you wanting babar and Abdullah as our t20 openers with fakhar and rizwan at 5 is a test lineup waiting to get crushed

Umar Akmal is better than saim ayub . PCB needs to try umar akmal atleast in T20 . Most talented young cricketer pakistan produce after inzamam Ul haq. Simply wasted his talent by not giving him enough chances.

And then you wake up from your wild dream and realize them 2 are struggling in ramazan tournaments.

Akmals should have been thrown to the dogs decade ago why are they still around for a place on the team haven’t they damaged the team enough

I still believe he is good enough to play in T20 pajama leagues around the world. He needs a good manager.

Akmal, with his pot belly, earing and cartoon beard, would make a good security guard for the team. I can imagine him as a bit of a get-things-done kind of guy. He makes sure the bags are delivered to the correct player's room, nips out to get Imad Wasim cigarettes, and runs from the stadium to tell the coach driver to start the bus the players are coming.

He gives off that sort of vibe now with his aesthetic.

As a player he is so now so far off the mark that even sifarish from Nawaz Sharif couldn't get him in the team.

121 ODI’s and 84 T20’s weren’t enough chances? Should he have played 200+ matches before getting a fair chance? 😂

after this KKL blunder i can surely say that he is the one who is running his page. lol
All that’s missing is a highly filtered tiktok video where he’s holding up a home made KKL poster against the backdrop of Punjabi stage drama music.

Just shows how talent of batsmen have gone down in Pakistan. The way we are hyping up Saim and Haris was similar to how we hyped up Umar akmal and Babar. Neither are anywhere near that level. Umar started performing against Australia instantly.

That’s why we need to debut batsmen later. We don’t have any prodigious 20 year olds. Better to give the guys who do have talent a few years to hone their game. The only guys debuting so early should be absolute generational talents, which Babar and Umar are, and these guys are not. Doesn’t mean we write them off, but they need to not be treated in the same way as generational talents.

We don't have a choice. It is better for a 20 year old to get an extended run than a 25 year old who takes until 28 to get going and then he only has a few years left because his real age is 4 years older.

We also need to promote youngsters who are genuinely their age regardless if they perform worse than their age fudging counterparts. That is the only way to apply a filter until we unearth new talent because the state doesn't seem bothered in dealing with age fudging. No stopping PCB from deciding themselves.

Extremely talented guys you get a longer career out of. Because by the time they are 20, they’ve already reached the level of a good 25 years old.

The rest it just takes them longer to improve. There’s a higher chance of a batsman doing well if debuted at 25 and has learnt everything they can in domestic opposed to someone debuting earlier and not ready. The same way, generally batsmen who perform early are far more likely to perform later on too. It’s pretty rare for a batsman with a bad start to go on to have a good career. Not debuting someone too early can avoid that.

It's good you're atleast acknowledging Bobby is overhyped and havent claimed he's the best pakistani batter ever or claimed his reputation is greater then Quaid E Azam( Yes someone actually claimed that here no joke)

Still better than Saim, Itfikhar, Haider, Azam and many others.

Babar is doing injustice with Umar.

Umar is done now though. He's getting out by school kids in domestic.

He isn't the same from 10 years ago. Someone like tayyab tahir can be a great replacement as he's a solid MO batter

Can you enlighten us how you reached that conclusion?
It’s not rocket science. UA probably still is a better T20 player than those names, just like Imad was still better than all those jobber spinners Pakistan were playing in his absence.

Yes UA isn’t in the best of touches but he is more capable than those guys for sure on his best day

Imad came back on the basis of league performances, like Amir - that's credit to them for keeping up their form.

Umar Akmal has never been a responsible player, and instead always deflected blame on others in his own failure. Big difference between him and Imad.

Umar has himsef to blame. Even now if he got his act together he would walk into this team, thats how poor we are

And we will remain poor if we keep going to the past it and tried and tested failures.. it’s always been a case with our cricket” one step forward 10 step backwards”…
I agree in principle, but we have really regressed when it comes to middle order limited overs batting

our batting culture in domestic cricket is also rotten

Everyone wants to open.

Everyone wants to be a pseudo all-rounder like Shadab and Imad.

We need to move away from opportunist players and give genuine specialists proper chances now.

Umar Akmal! You can be fit but performance should also be there.

This is kinda funny.

But ignoring his comedy twitter post aside, I don't get why people are laughing at the fitness itself, yes he's making a fool of himself with his shirtless pic, but besides the point, this type of fitness standards and body is what our players need? Look at aussie players and look at dad bod Pakistani players?

BTW I'm not advocating UA to return, but genuinely this is the body shape people need to have if their pursuing a professional sport. However yes, umar akmal shouldn't be showing the world that shirtless sas and commenting like a moron. All our players have no clue how to use social media for promotion 😂

Tayyab tahir wants to genuinely be a middle order batter and so does omair.

Pakistan would have a difficult time qualifying for ICC events if they bring back players like Umar Akmal into the team.
They would but he I think the overall points need to be taken into account.

Players do need to have UA levels of fitness, his body makes Azam khan blush tbh

We don’t plan long term and always look for shortcuts. This has been our modus operandi from day one that we catch the players young, throw them in the deep waters of international cricket and expect them to learn on job. This used to work in past as we always couple of senior players in the team with some brain cells who could guide the younger lot however over the years we have produced some very low IQ cricketers who don’t understand or know their own game how will they guide the youngsters. Salman Bhat was our last player who had something above his shoulders and even he messed it up in the end.

Pakistan cricket won’t improve unless we have these low IQ paindus at the helm of affairs..

Not saying that I don't believe him ... but this photo looks so fake and the abs look like they've been edited in. I'm not saying that IS the case - it just looks like it lol. Cus if you look at his arms, they have no vascularity or definition whatsoever but he has great abs. Idk how that works bc you would have to have an overall low BF % to get those abs & it should show on his arms too.

Don’t think it’s fake, to me it looks like liposuction.
