First of all, stop worrying about weather. A weather forecast which is 2 or more days out is always iffy. Same fans were cribbing before the game against Ind. If the forecast remains the same in the last 24 hours, then it is a valid concern.

I am hoping for a full game on one of the 2 days. No matter what, we need to field the unchanged team. No experiment now in the final game. That time is passed.

I am hoping there won't be any spin in the PP. Eng will go hard and any chance offered would most likely go for begging outside the 30 yards.
The fast bowling should be just short of length on the 4th stump line. If the ball swings, then of course go full attacking stumps.

I am hoping for an awesome day for Shaheen and Naseem. If they removed the openers, game is on - especially Naseem if he got his length right and kept the moving away off the 4th stump, he will get Buttler behind the wicket. Shaheen gets the ball in and remove Hails early LBW/Bowled. Openers gone in PP and we win! And no I am not dreaming; It shall happen.

Same team if the game is played in full.
If its 10 over game then Shan Masood should drop out and one of Asif Ali or Haider should play.

We need to be wary of the English openers, Moeen and Rashid. The rest of them aren't anything that we can't handle.

InshaAllah, our third World Cup win will be delivered on Sunday.

Guys like Waseem, Sam Curran and Jordan are always possible victims of a phainty galore. Look at what Pandya did to both.

Use Hasnain. He’s taller and faster and so can extract more from the MCG pitch. Yorkers alone (which is Waseem’s only specialty) are not enough Vs a batting line up like England’s. These guys know how to neutralize Yorkers.

Terrible idea. Hasnain hasn't played a single game while Wasim has been doing well as our fourth pacer and can hit some boundaries, if needed.

Neither is going to bowl their full quota most probably so it's better to have the extra batting and slightly different bowling style than to pick the poor man's Naseem Shah.

In live commentary, Waqar Younis was giving this height for Wasim Jr as well during a recent PK-NZ T20I match (not during the current WC but the tri-series).

Hasnain is 6'1'' as per PakPassion Talent Spotter profile, and it seems right.

Looked 5’10-11 to me. This is just going by him standing to the same players I’ve seen Hasnain stand next to. And Hasnain looked taller than all of them by a few inches. Looked 6’1”-6’2”.

Naseem, Haris and Waseem are all about 5’10-5’11”. That’s my estimate because I’ve seen Haris Rauf take a side by side pic with Kohli who is 5’9”, and Naseem and Waseem look the same as Rauf when standing together. If Hasnain is 6’2” that’s quite a bit.

These are the only two pics I can find of both next to the same player. Now ofc if Waseem is wearing drastically flatter footwear in the second pic then I am totally wrong here but I don’t trust Pakistani listed heights on google or whatever 100%. As we know, even things like age have been known to be fudged with in Pak. Shahid Afridi despite playing for 2 decades is still misquoted anywhere from 5’10-6’0”. Amir was listed as 6’2” for the longest time when he’s also 5’10-11”

What's strange is MW Jr's Wikipedia claims he's 188cm tall i.e. 6 ft 2. Having seen the side by side comparisons I'm not sure that's legit :))

Thank Allah the Creator that we have short ball specialist Muhammad Yousaf as batting coach.

Have you all forgot how Babar & Rizwan scored so many runs off short pitch bowing? Even Shady can cut those balls for six.

InshAllah Saqlain being head coach is already working on counter plan and training for short pitch bowling. We will score 200 first. inshAllah
 
I think we need to include Muhammad Hasnain in place of Shan Masood. Just send Haris at 3, Chacha at 4 and Shady at 5. Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah and Muhammad Wasim should bowl all 20 overs. Dont make a mistake of 4 spin overs on that track. It will at least go for 40 runs
 
Shan run a ball 50 anchor will cost us the match. We need those 50 balls played by Shady and Iftikhar. Shady can hit long sixes. He has ability but doesnt show off and gets out cheaply to show opponents that he cant hit long ball when in fact he is saving the best for final and crucial moments
 
Batters need to practice cuts, scoops and flicks instead of hook shots as that would be easier using pace of the bowlers. Cant believe they dont use Dilscoop more often

Im open to this suggestion. I think it has merit. 5 pacers + Shadab + Ifti / Nawaz gives us plenty of variety that makes it harder for their bats to settle down.

Shan is not a game changer. Hasnain might be considering the conditions + his experience in Australia.

You need balls of steel to pull this decision off as a captain. But imo it may be the right one.
 
^ whoever is most economical will obviously bowl full quota.

Yes. Pakistan won 2002 series in that stadium.

I wonder why Australia no longer use that ground. South Africa also played a series there.
 
The blueprint for Pakistan to win against England is how much they plan for the English line up.

England are coming off hot, trashing India in a 10 wicket win. The pair of Hales and Buttler have enjoyed themselves in Australia, not holding back and hitting anything in their sights. The pair has struck 410 runs @ 146 while averaging 51. Of the games England have won in this world cup, the pair scored 67% of the runs for the side. In the one game the pair failed for a combined total of 7 runs, England lost.

England will hope that their openers will start as they left off against India due to the middle order (3-7) concerns. The English middle order has scored 186 runs @ 112 while averaging 17 runs. England will need their openers to perform or else it could spell trouble for the side.

Given Pakistan's strong bowling line up that takes wickets up front with pace and swing, England may find themselves being a touch more defensive than their usual selves. Of the 12 top sides, England fall on the lower end against swing bowling (22) in the powerplay. Babar should not hold back and attack with Shaheen and Naseem with at least two overs each up front, allowing the ball to swing as much as possible.

Consider that Melbourne is the least swing friendly pitch in Australia, it is likely that wickets may not come as easy for Pakistan. In that case, spin will become very important. Melbourne has the highest spin rating (53%) for this World Cup which make Shadab, Nawaz and Iftikar's overs very important. Given the left handers in the middle order, Iftikhar can expect to bowl at least 2 overs (ideally before the 10 over mark).

As for batting, England will target Pakistan will high paced short bowls. Pakistan has one of the lowest averages (20.07) against short pitched bowling among the top 12 teams. The stat makes it very important for Pakistan to attack in the powerplay to force England to bring in Mark Wood early, potentially in the powerplay so his short balls do not have fielders supporting him.

In any case, batting first or second, Pakistan will need to be aggressive with the bat and bowl. The English line up is filled with hitters top-down and the only way to come out on top is to fight fire with fire.

The stats for MCG is outdated. The wicket there isnt the usual. Its pace and bounce is only next to perth. Expect same India Pakistan match level conditions

Instead of making styles in front of camera, they need to practice against short n rising balls, cuz THAT'S what they are gonna face in the actual game ... not these halwa balls pitched in the hitting zone.
 
PP posters seem to be nervous and anxious. I on the other hand feel we are going to smash them.

England have not faced a bowling line up of our depth and quality before. They will crawl their way to 150 odd. Babar and Rizwan will inflict the slow torture turning of cork screw treatment and then Haris/Iftikhar/Nawaz/Shadab will come and finish the game off.

Exactly. Facing 140 plus bowlers at the G with two terrific spin bowlers is different than facing Halwa bowling in Adelaide.
 
MELBOURNE, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Pakistan have soaked up stories from the landmark 1992 Cricket World Cup final win over England in the lead up to Sunday's Twenty20 decider and hope to share their own tales of triumph in years to come, team mentor Matthew Hayden said on Friday.

Imran Khan's side beat England by 22 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in that 50-overs tournament to claim their first World Cup trophy in a landmark moment for Pakistan cricket.

Hayden said Pakistan board chief Ramiz Raja, who opened the batting and took the final catch that sealed victory in the 1992 final, had addressed Babar Azam's team on Friday morning.

"He was reliving some of those stories around the '92 World Cup," former Australia opener Hayden told reporters at the MCG.

"And I think that's great, because that's why you play the game. These boys .... their careers will be but a blink and they'll be looking back on this tournament.

"And they'll tell these stories around campfires in their villages, in media conferences like the one we are here and it will be an important chapter of Pakistan cricket - as the '92 campaign was."

England, who won the last 50-overs World Cup in 2019 on home soil, are rated clear favourites by bookmakers to win on Sunday after humiliating India by 10 wickets in Thursday's semi-final at Adelaide Oval.

Hayden, however, felt Pakistan's attack would be a good match for the English and particularly their captain Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, who chased down 169 for victory in an unbroken partnership to embarrass India's bowlers.

"I think the bases are covered," said Hayden.

"I think both sides actually have got very equal set-ups.

"It's just 'even-stevens'. At the start of this tournament I always thought that England was going to be a huge threat.

"And here we are on the edge of a final."

So we disguised an entire world cup to have the 8th match of our T20 series so we may equalize it at 4-4. Big brain Raja Ji.
 
Weather forecast does seem to be gradually improving. Percentage chance of rain has dropped from 90 to about 60. Same thing happened for the India game and it didn't rain. Fingers crossed we get a full game on Sunday.

MELBOURNE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja disclosed that he reiterated the exact words of former captain Imran Khan’s ‘shortest speech’ ahead of the 1992 World Cup final and advised the Green Shirts to give their best shot in the T20 World Cup final on Sunday.

Ramiz, who was also a part of the 1992 World Cup winning side, told the reporters on Friday that he met with the team and gave them a reference to that historic final at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) three decades ago.

“That was the shortest speech,” said Ramiz about Imran’s chat with the team before 1992 final. “Because what you are supposed to do has been done. Your technique cannot improve or decay in the next 24 hours. It is a mental game now.”

Ramiz revealed that Imran just asked the team members to step out, enjoy and win the match. “I exactly repeated the words that our captain Imran Khan said to us at that time,” he added.

Talking about the similarities between the 1992 World Cup and the present T20 megaevent, the chairman PCB said that it will be a ‘dream come true’ for him if Pakistan lifts the World Cup on Sunday.

He further went on to say that the Pakistan cricket team were playing as a unit and the players were not taking any kind of pressure.

“Boys are relaxed. They are playing tennis ball cricket inside, bowling bouncers to each and having chit-chats. So they look relaxed and this is how they should be” he stated.

Expressing his opinion on Babar Azam’s leadership skills, Ramiz claimed that it was beyond recognition and that he certainly had the potential to achieve greatness.

“I’ve just told him (Babar) that he has the opportunity right now to achieve greatness and leave behind a legacy. If he lifts the World Cup, nothing could be bigger than that in his career” he said.

Pakistan and England play the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground at 19h00 local time (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) on Sunday 13 November.
On Saturday 12 November:

Pakistan have cancelled training. They will hold their pre-match press conference at the Yarra Park Room, Level 3, Olympic Stand, MCG in person and via Zoom at 12h00.

England will be training at the MCG between 14h00 and 17h00. They will hold their pre-match press conference at the Yarra Park Room, Level 3, Olympic Stand, MCG in person and via Zoom at 12h15.

I am not sure if it will a full 40 over match, because they can shorten the match to 10 overs per side to get a result on Sunday.

A shortened match favors England IMO. Toss then becomes crucial as well. Win the toss and chase should be order of the day.

Pakistan should chase too if they win the toss, especially with rain around the corner.
 
if the match is rain reduced before the toss then the line-up needs adjustment. One of Asif/Haider needs to come in for Shan
 
The match officials appointments for the final of the eighth ICC Men’s T20 World Cup have been announced.
Umpires Marais Erasmus and Kumar Dharmasena will assume on-field duties in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 to be played between Pakistan and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13 November at 19h00 AEDT.
Chris Gaffaney will be the TV umpire for the match while Paul Reiffel will be the fourth umpire.
The final will be overseen by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle.

On-field umpires: Marais Erasmus and Kumar Dharmasena
TV umpire: Chris Gaffaney
Fourth umpire: Paul Reiffel
 
We have not chased a big total in whole of the tournament. Our strength has been bowling out opposition at low totals and chasing it. Two time we defended total was 160 and 180 and both times we made the other team pay for it. Now, what is our strategy bat first or bowl first. I have a feeling we might be better off a total than give england a chance to post a big total.

England will chase, if they win the toss, and I think thats the better option, especially with rain around the corner.

Never know that alu gobi could have been a luck factor for us
 
Going forward we shouldn't worry too much about our batting. Bowling is out strength and we should play according to our strength. We should definitely field first and have 2-3 wickets before the power play ends and not let England score more than 25-35 runs during the power powerplay to be on the safe side.

If we are batting first rizwan and babar need to get going from ball 1. Tuk tuk for 10 over strategy will not work vs England we need atlest 50-60 runs by the power play with no wicket or 1 wicket down. I think it will be better if harris opens and makes use of he power play he is a very good player of short ball and that's what England will be throwing at us. We need to get the England bowlers under pressure by attacking them

Probably hard to score 160 here to begin with.
The average first innings score is about 145 or something.
And the second inning average score is like 128 or something.

If a team scores 160 in the first iinnings, then it's pretty much a winning score.
 
What must Pakistan do to win?


Opening duo must fire

It's unfair on the rest of Pakistan's talented batting order to suggest Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have to score heavily for the Asian side to win, but the reality is that the two experienced openers are supremely important to the result.

Babar and Rizwan compiled their ninth century partnership in the format when they put on 105 for the opening wicket against New Zealand in the semi-finals and they will be hoping to continue that momentum against England's underrated bowling line-up.

A fast and safe start is imperative for Pakistan as it makes it so much easier for shot-makers like Mohammad Haris, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan to come in and play their natural game and attack the slower bowlers.


Fellow quicks step up to help Afridi

Shaheen Afridi has been Pakistan's most effective quick so far Down Under with a total of 10 wickets from seven matches and it's time fellow speedsters Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah stepped up and provided their pace spearhead with some support.

While Rauf and Nassem haven't exactly bowled poorly in Australia, they have just nine wickets between them and could turn the match Pakistan's way with a couple of breakthroughs early against England on Sunday.

England's batting order is so deep that taking wickets is going to be imperative for Pakistan to try and stop the flow of runs and it will be much easier to do that if Afridi gets good support from his fellow pacers.


Effort in the field remains strong

Performance in the field hasn't always been Pakistan's strong suit, but recent efforts have been good in this department and more of the same is required if they are to knock off England.

It's not just about holding on to your catches either, with effort in the field to save an extra run here and there often just as valuable as a spectacular grab in the T20 arena.

Shadab Khan produced a moment of magic in the semi-final against New Zealand when he threw down the stumps from close range to dismiss the dangerous Daryl Mitchell and a moment like this can be crucial to the outcome of the final.

Masood needs to be in the lineup for so many reasons.
1) We need a left-handed bat in the lineup and there is no other leftie in the top order.
2) He is a great fielder (remember that run-out he did in the 4th T20 between Pakistan and England?).
3) He is mentally strong, knows the game well and is a leader (Yorkshire has made him captain for 2023).
4) Probably the only player in the XI who is fluent in English (in case the team needs to make a point with the umpires).
5) His integrity is beyond question. I believe that it was Mickey Arthur who said something to the effect that Masood is the guy that he would want his daughter to come home with.

England bowler Mark Wood is struggling to be fit for Sunday's T20 World Cup final against Pakistan in Melbourne.

Wood, 32, missed Thursday's semi-final win over India with a right hip injury.

He has been the fastest bowler in the tournament and took nine wickets in four matches in the group stage as a crucial part of England's attack.

"I tried my best to make the last game but I couldn't bowl at the intensity and speeds required to play for England," Wood said.

Speaking on the BBC's Good Pace for Radio podcast, he added: "I couldn't get my hip going. Hopefully if required I can try and get it right for this game - I don't know if I'll be able to.

"The team did really well last game - if the captain desperately needs me and I'm fit enough then I'll put my name in the hat like everyone else."

Wood, who has bowled the quickest delivery at the tournament, at 96.15mph against New Zealand, also broke the record for the fastest spell in white-ball cricket, averaging 92.6mph across his four overs against Afghanistan.

It is understood batter Dawid Malan, who missed the 10-wicket victory over India with a groin injury is also unlikely to be fit.

On Friday England coach Matthew Mott told the BBC "there isn't a lot of time for them" but added "I would like to maintain a bit of hope".

Wood, who missed the entire summer with an elbow injury, also took six wickets in two matches when England won an away series against Pakistan 4-3 in September and October.

His injury is also of concern given he is a member of England's Test squad for the series in Pakistan, which starts on 1 December.

His ability to bowl at high pace is seen as vital, given the slow, low surfaces in Pakistan.

Fellow England bowler and co-host Tymal Mills revealed on the podcast the pair had to complete a 300m trip for breakfast from their team hotel in Adelaide on an electric scooter, because Wood was struggling to walk.

England have answered many questions after reaching the T20 World Cup final - but now have a few more on their plate ahead of their showdown with Pakistan at the MCG.

One of them is surely 'will the rain wreck proceedings?' with the forecast in Melbourne largely gruesome across Sunday and Monday's reserve day and a trophy share possible.

Jos Buttler cannot control the weather but he can decide the nature of his bowling attack and which players he would turn to if the final goes to a Super Over, just like the 50-over equivalent did at Lord's in 2019 when England pipped New Zealand on boundary comeback.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, Eoin Morgan, England's captain in the ODI World Cup three years ago, said he would consider playing David Willey if the "general stiffness" that ruled Mark Wood out of the semi-final against India kept him on the sidelines again, with the MCG's ground dimensions perhaps not suiting Chris Jordan.

Morgan also reckons the pressure of bowling the Super Over - a task he gave Jofra Archer in 2019 - would be taken on by left-armer Sam Curran and that Curran could even bat in England's Super Over if Pakistan opted to bowl spin.

On Wood, who was replaced by Jordan at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, Morgan said: "If you look at conditions at the MCG, they just suit him, whereas they probably work against someone like Jordan at the death with his yorkers.

"The MCG is so short straight and there is little margin for error so if Wood isn't fit you might even see someone like David Willey come in.

"Willey can swing the ball and then you can bowl him and Chris Woakes at the death, bowling into the wicket, forcing Pakistan to hit it square and create catching opportunities.

"You have to have the ground dimensions working in your favour in big games as if you make basic mistakes and are hit to the short side, you are up against it."

Curran to bowl England's Super Over if needed?

In the event of a Super Over, Buttler would also have to decide whether to bat himself.

Morgan opted for Buttler and Ben Stokes in 2019, with the pair going on to score 15 runs between them, but would they be reunited on Sunday?

Morgan added: "I would look at who is going to bowl for Pakistan. If it was obvious, I would send out who is most likely to counter it. I would prefer left-hand, right-hand, to be honest.

"If it was spin, absolutely Moeen Ali. It might be Curran and Mo with Buttler at No 3 - but Stokes is also pretty good at Super Overs!

Would Sam Curran bowl the Super Over it if was required against Pakistan?

"The England guys will also know who is going to bowl a Super Over. Things would only drastically change on the day if you're like 'this doesn't suit that bowler'.

"If you were to say flat wicket, everything set fair at the MCG, from afar it would be Curran.

"He would bowl into the wicket, wide so you can't get it straight. You would set an off-side field and make them hit to the long side."

Pakistan and England will attend the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Fan Zone in Yarra Park, appearing on stage from 13h15pm AEDT. This is an open event for fans where media can capture vision of both teams.

Pakistan have cancelled training. They will hold their pre-match press conference at the Yarra Park Room, Level 3, Olympic Stand, MCG in person and via Zoom at 12h00.

England will be training at the MCG between 14h00 and 17h00. They will hold their pre-match press conference at the Yarra Park Room, Level 3, Olympic Stand, MCG in person and via Zoom at 12h15.

There will be a pre-final image with both captains, which will be taken by the ICC and shared on the ICC Online Media Zone from 13h30 AEDT for media to use rights free.
 
The Event Technical Committee (ETC) has increased the provision of additional playing time on the reserve day to four hours from the original provision of two hours (clause 13.7.3 of the Playing Conditions), in case more time is required to complete the match and get a result.
