India (171/7) hand a crushing defeat to England (103) by 68 runs to secure their spot in the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

It is gonna be damp squib. Apparently not many in the stands. In a way it works for India with no people watching them.

Is there a reserve day? If not, why? any idea?" No reserve day because then one team in the final will have to play-travel play on consecutive days which the ICC didn't want

Why is the final not on a Sunday? I guess its to enable Indian audiences to watch the match on a saturday evening.

Anchor asked “who is the person?”

Harbhajan said “Duckworth-Lewis”

This joke is for the understanding of ppls from Bhatinda

On Indian TV channels:

Every 2nd advt is an online gambling site that is flogged by a cricketer who will never want his own kid to ever access

Every 3rd adv is some bolly dude begging you to consider paan masala ghutka as some kinda vital necessary product that will extend your existence on earth & whilst at it make it a healthy - happy- successful - wealthy - whatchamacallit life

Every 4 th adv is by a cricketer who won't be using the products he is currently flogging U & begging U to buy...MSD being the worst offender -kitne professional model ka baddua leksr Jayega yaar- give it a break ..
& Whilst at it Sir Harsha bhogle & Sir navjot siddhu should only display their 'talents' in IPL - please retire from intl cricket
& That's me rant for today :)

It has stopped raining, but we'll have a delayed toss for semi-final 2 in Guyana

Should india win isn't it unfair that get less rest than SA? Same with eng. How is the scheduling fair??

Whole schedulgin in the back end is cringeworthy. You want two reasonably fresh teams battling it out. Not one tired team. 2 days min gap was needed. But they took 17 ot 19 days to complete the first round. Just 10 days for second round/semi/final

Why are they doing timepass, just get the toss done while it isn't raining or maybe they waiting for the rain to arrive

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg, while speaking to a local Indian sports media outlet:

"It's a day game, so the wicket might be a little bit dry. But this is the good thing about the Indian squad—they've got depth in spin. They knew that when they got to the West Indies, they were going to play more spin than pace. But they've still got Siraj there that they can bring in, and they've got Hardik Pandya, so they've got more pace options if they want up their sleeve. Will they bring in Chahal? I wouldn't bring in Chahal right now. I'd stick with Jadeja. You've got to stick with the playing XI that you're going with."

"I love the thought of the question, though. Chahal against England would be okay. But there are a couple of left-handers in the batting lineup for England as well, which could do a little bit of damage. Kuldeep Yadav has been bowling exceptionally well, and Axar Patel has been going well. Jadeja hasn't been that flash, but he gives you so much in the field, as well as with the bat. And he's a player that, in the right conditions, he can also lift with the ball. If it's not turning and if it suits pace, I reckon Jadeja is a better option than Chahal as well. So, I'd stick with Jadeja."

Hoping for a cracker of a game with full 20 over for each side

When's the toss?
10:05am It's still dry, no details on toss time yet. A few members from the groundstaff are walking out which is a good sign. They're removing some of the pipes used to keep the covers grounded. Based on previous evidence this morning, Matt reckons they'll have it sorted in the next 30 mins or so.

Another 20 mins or so

Nowdays technology is there, why they not covered the whole ground? Time will be saved in drying the outfield

I feel like that's why Afghans got pummelled as well. No rest. Such a disaster.

ICC think short term, that’s why the game of cricket hasn’t expanded.
In a way ICC got lucky that BCCI were competent and Indian economy boomed in last 20-30 years, otherwise they would be bankrupt by now.
ICC never had additional funds until Dalmiya held CT 1998.. that’s when they finally got funds.
ICC are useless piece of administrative hacks, English since East India Company have been lazy in every field.

Lol the rona dhona has started already.. :uakmal

Dont be so paranoid brother. We aren't winning this even if make the final.
Lol... I know this tactics, you guys deliberatly making the India loss narrative so that the opposition fans won't go hard on you in case of India's failure. But at the moment you are in a really good position. With SA in final and rain threat here.

Yup, they just got lucky with Indian economy/purchasing power explosion.

The day India qualified for football World Cup, will be the day we will start seeing a slow death of ICC.

Not really, if you see usually we are pretty confident to make to KO but before the tournament itself we said Kohli Rohit Jaddu are deadweights, and that was true..
This time many didn’t even have us as qualifying for KO..

Also historically we have been poor in Carribean

'The shorter the game, the more England come into it'

Former England World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan on Sky Sports:

"India are the in-form team in this tournament - they have been absolutely outstanding.

"England, however, in knockout phases become better.

"If it's a fully completed game, India go in as favourites, but the shorter the game the more it brings England into it, I believe.

"Both sides will be chomping at the bit to get out there."

What’s the point of a shorter game than even 20 overs?

Might as well just play toss-toss and call it a day.

Unfortunately true.

Full game, advantage team batting first, Shortened game, advantage team batting second..

Am I right?
I did a bit of analysis earlier. Teams batting second win 70% of the time here. I don't think anyone's going to be choosing to bat first full game or not.

You know who funded this providence stadium. Government of India substantitally funded to build this stadium, Conceptualizatin, Design, Construction all were done by 3 different Indian companies. This was built for 2007 world cup.

ICC tried to be too greedy by hosting all of IND games during IST prime time. Now, they might not even get a game or even the final might washout LOL.

Rain again started …bad news… looks like complete washout… congratulations India, Hard-luck England

Hong Kong sixers lol not sure anyone remembers that fun tournament

Ya and even beach cricket in Australia/West Indies.

I think that one was 6 over a side and retired players used to drink beer while playing.

Viv Richard’s, Shane warne, Courtney Walsh etc all played in it.
Great memories

Greed is good though as Michael douglas says in Wall street :) Look at some of the cricket boards. Srilankan cricket board. HEck even Cricket Australia reported net loss of 11 million dollar for the last year. If cricket as a game needs to be sustained lot of money has to flow.

Regardless of who wins, if SA don't beat ad tired india or England in finals then they should just consider changing their official team name to SAC as in south african chokers. Not proteas. Or whatever they are called.

Indian team has really gotten so much better at giving interviews ever since Sehwag and then Dhoni left, almost everyone has a level head.

Pitch Report

'This pitch looks very dry, it's quite cracked but the cracks are solid and they're not really moving around.

"Expect this pitch to be quite low and skiddy. I don't think we'll see the bounce, or uneven bounce, that we saw in Trinidad for the first semi-final.

"The stats here for day games suggest that the average score is 167 batting first, even split, five teams have won batting first, four teams have won fielding first.

"England like to chase, whether they will today with the rain today, I suspect they might want to.

"I think we're going to see a low, skiddy pitch and it tends to favour the spinners."

The good thing is this is an incredibly fast-drying outfield."

Yes, it’s happened in past tours and tournaments played in Caribbean…. If they keep India’s match odd time of day, viewership will decline. Sponsors always trying for prime time slot I.e 8.00 pm IST

Just what I thought. It's the only real chasing pitch in the Caribbean. Was that number for T20I's only or does that include CPL as well ?

Oh well Kohli sucks on low bounce tracks. He needs bounce like in A ustralia.

ICC spokesperson confirms we'll start losing overs for India Vs England Semi Final only after 11:40 PM PST.

The start of a 10 over match should happen at 1.14 AM PST for the Semi-Final between India vs England.
So that is 4 hours from now. That’s a lot of time.

Indian team has really gotten so much better at giving interviews ever since Sehwag and then Dhoni left, almost everyone has a level head.

I like Sehwag till the time he crosses the line he quite funny in his own way.

Next update at 4pm UK time

No prospects of play, nor the toss, in the next half an hour or so...
So that's when we'll bring you our next update, 4pm UK time to see if the rain is relenting and any prospects of play.

Interesting take.

And I think you are 100% right.

And even now instead of trying to diversify the ICC dummies have just attached themselves to the Indian market and hope for the best

India needs to thank Afghanistan for sinking Australia for them. Easy breezy path to lift the cup. Their ICC tormentors are out of the World Cup and rain will eliminate England.

Okay I had some time to waste so I did some analysis with Statsguru (I love that tool)

15 completed matches. 6 won by team batting first, 9 by team batting second
Average score batting first 146. Lowest (Uganda) 58, Highest 191 (England lost that one in DL situation)

To be a bit more sophisticated, we need to exclude PNG & Uganda which have played 4 games there.

In which case, 4 wins batting first, 7 batting second so still a good advantage batting second
Average first batting score 159. Lowest ~120. Highest is still England

Spin's been more economical - 6.4 Vs 7.4 for pace though Pace has a better Average (24 Vs. 26) and Strike Rate (18 Vs. 23).

I would say win the toss and bowl. Par score is of course 160 so anything below that is a bonus but even a bit over that can be chased.

India should go in with a bit of an advantage on this tacky pitch with the quality of their spinners and Bumrah. They also have slightly better 'proper batters' in Kohli and Rohit. The last time they played here (a year ago), they split a match a piece with West Indies but not much can be read into it since both teams were missing a lot of players. Surya stuck a very nice 83 off 44 though so if he has the measure of things, that'll be useful. Kuldeep looked pretty good and I expect him to be near unplayable as he's been off late.
Just what I thought. It's the only real chasing pitch in the Caribbean. Was that number for T20I's only or does that include CPL as well ?
Here's the analysis. Just internationals. Didn't have time to pull in the CPL.

They know Indians suck at sports so probably still have 50+ years of juice left in them.

After that who knows, maybe we do develop strong teams in other sports and cricket just dies.

These interviewers should never bring up these controversial verbal diarrhea we see from EX pak cricketers. Especially disrespectful remarks like ball tampering. If i were Rohit i would have gone nuclear. He was too nice.

How come? On the contrary india thrashed Australia by 24 runs which helped Afg to reach semis..

Well... India is big enough for two sports crazy people to coexist together.

India eliminated Australia. I guess you missed that match

That's a long way away dude maybe 20-25 years. Before that will come such an explosion of wealth in cricket in India that will make everything that's happened so far feel small.

The next TV deal for the IPL will be an order of magnitude larger.

India can't seem to have a straight path. Over cast conditions apparently. This has 2019 WC SF against NZ vibes already.

Deliberately trying to delay proceedings, well paid BCCI.
