India (202/8) secure a convincing 61-run victory in 1st T20I against South Africa (141) to go 1-0 up in the 4-match T20I series

What i loved against samson is that he can play proper cricketing shots to score at 175-200 strike rate. Its not baseless hitting.Today his six over cover region sums up lads insane ability

I don't know how gill is starting over samson in T20.The striking ability of gill is nowhere close to samson who's a dream T20 player for any team barring india
There was no performance before these two innings by him after getting enough chances.

India just throwing away the Samsun momentum, but is it already a done deal?

Rinku gone.
India 194/6.

Very very poor finish , After 16 over india score were 175/4 .

Aren’t there any good T20I pacers in Indian team that they went with three spinners in XI?

Arshdeep, Avesh that’s it.

India st least 25 runs short given start they've.. Since Sanju's dismissal they only scored 27 runs in 26 balls.. Very very poor finish..

Indian batting today:

First 14.2 overs - 167/2

Last 5.4 overs - 35/6

This is India's third-highest total in a T20I in South Africa

Highest T20I totals for India in South Africa

218/4 vs England in Durban, 2007
203/5 vs South Africa in Johannesburg, 2018
202/8 vs South Africa in Durban, 2024

Damn! I did not even know that India was playing today.

What an innings by Sanju baba. (y)

Test - Pant and Jurel already there so no need.

But Pant is not done well in limited overs to cement his place so Samson can grab the opportunity.
At this rate, Sanju can play as a pure batsman. Pant or Jurel can keep wickets in all formats.

Already expected a runfest, there is a big betting mafia in SA, infact all the infamous bookmakers reside in Joburg Durban etc

South Africa are collapsing against TEAM IPL. Not good.

Need a few big overs.
IPL performers need more exposure. India are always hesitant in giving chances to new players. They always go back to oldies and has beens.

India defeat South Africa to go 1-0 up in the 4-match T20I series

India faced an early setback with Abhishek Sharma's dismissal, but Sanju Samson's aggressive knock kept them on the attack. Supported by Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, India seemed poised for a 230-240 total. However, South Africa turned the tide as Keshav Maharaj's crucial breakthrough slowed the scoring, setting the tone for the rest of the South African attack to wrestle back control and restricting India to 202 runs. Gerald Coetzee stood out with the ball, picking up three key wickets, while it was Sanju Samson’s magnificent knock of 107 from just 50 deliveries that defined India’s innings with the bat.

However, the Indian spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi cast a relentless web around South Africa’s middle order, triggering a collapse that the hosts had desperately hoped to avoid. From a relatively stable position at 86/3, South Africa suddenly found themselves reeling at 93/7, as the Indian spinners spun the game decisively in their favour. The Proteas tail managed to provide some late fireworks to briefly entertain the crowd. Among them, Gerald Coetzee’s quickfire cameo of 23 runs off just 11 balls stood out, offering a flash of resistance and spirit. However, the effort was not enough to stave off the inevitable. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi got three wickets each while Avesh Khan took two and Arshdeep Singh scalped one. South Africa were eventually bundled out for 141 runs, handing India a commanding victory in the first game.

Just saw scorecard. Comprehensive victory for the neighbours. Congratulations.

He is good but highly inconsistent. He will give u breath taking performances but it will be highly inconsistent .His dismissal will make any of his fans to rip off their hair. For first time he played well in 2 matches consecutively and its the testament (centuries in last 2 t20is) of his inconsistency.Even in ipl he scored 500 runs in a season only once that's also in last year. He will score century in a first ipl match normally and he won't even complete 500 runs in next 13 plus matches.

Sanju samson is hated mainly because of his fans. THey go overboard every time he gets dropped. As a person he is a nice guy. He has great skill level. So i say he has underachieved. Partly due to inconsistent backing of him. They didn't give him a steady run. Looks like SKY has a clear plan how to use him. It is working out well. You don't have to be super consistent in T20.

Not really, Sanju was a failure in T20I (excluding last 2 innings) but he get continuous chance there.. But he was actually very good in ODI but he didnt get much chance there.. So when people points that out they say he get many chances but he didnt grabbed it..

Technical glitch halts Indian national anthem twice before T20I in Durban

A technical glitch marred the pre-match proceedings of the first T20I between India and South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban on Friday as the Indian national anthem was interrupted twice before the start of the game.

The incident occurred while both teams lined up for the national anthems. The anthem stopped midway during its first rendition, with the Indian players, including Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, continuing to sing on their own.

A few moments later, the anthem was cut off again, leaving the players visibly confused and baffled, particularly evident on the faces of Pandya and Yadav.

The video of the incident quickly went viral across social media platforms.

India are slated to take on South Africa in the four-match T20I series.

Top knock from Samson. Since the time I have become his supporter, he has been riding a wave of good fortune and the performances are also coming up as expected.

Samson is a good hearted person too who understands the concept of how team building works and always focuses on his game rather than what world is saying. But he has got the worst set of Indian fans you could have asked for. Nevertheless, I have always enjoyed his batting and hope for him making a good white ball career for himself. But in case his fans come in my way or try irritating, they will be sent back home crying though :sree :inti

yea.. in ODIs they dropped him. He could have used that to get better in T20 as well. Besides this is the first time he is opening in T20. May be that is what made him click.

Suryakumar Yadav Angry As South Africa Star Complains Of Sanju Samson's Objectionable Act

There never goes by a moment when India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav doesn't have a smile on his face. However, during a tense moment on the field in the first T20I against South Africa, Suryakumar donned his angry avatar while trying to defend wicket-keeper Sanju Samson. Suryakumar engaged in an intense debate with South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen after the latter expressed his displeasure over Samson's act of stepping onto the pitch time and again. Even the India wicket-keeper had to join the face-off between Jansen and Surykumar in the middle of the pitch on Friday.

The incident took place before the third ball of the 15th over was bowled. Jansen, seemingly, wasn't happy to see Samson collecting the ball after stepping onto the pitch and complained about the same.

Suryakumar then pointed out that Samson also wasn't happy as was not being allowed to catch the ball because of Jansen who kept coming in the way. The India captain engaged in an argument with both Jansen and his partner Gerald Coetzee in the middle to cool the matter down.

Surya also had to explain the matter to the on-field umpires Lubabalo Gcuma and Stephen Harris.

Samson was the hero of the match as the Indian team put a gigantic total of 202/8 on the board, courtesy of a second successive T20I hundred from the wicket-keeper batter. Chsing the target of 203 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 171.

After the game, Suryakumar doffed his hat to Samson, who has been working hard over the last 10 years to gain the sort of recognition he is now getting.

"The amount of hard work he has put in over the last few years, doing the boring work, he is eating the fruits of that. He was in the 90s but still he was looking for a boundary, playing for the team which shows the character of the man and that's what we look for," said Surya after the game.

While speaking to local broadcast media, Mark Boucher noted that David Miller seemed at a loss against spin during their 61-run defeat to Team India in the first T20I:

"David Miller wasn't picking a thing at all. I mean, there's one over there where I think he missed four out of the six deliveries he faced. So yeah, he was bowled really well tonight, and it just goes to show two quality spinners. There was something there for the bowlers on that wicket. Something that South African bowlers could not exploit."

"I was watching a couple of his (Ravi Bishnoi) balls come out a little bit different and I think what he did really well tonight, especially in the dark, is he changed the seam up. Sometimes you look at the ball, especially as a wicket-keeper as well. You look at the ball and see if you can see it spinning different ways. But he muddled his seam up very nicely."

Im not yet convinced he'll have a good T20I career.. In IPL he takes some times to settle in, for India he cant do that.. But in ODI he can take some time to settle in..
