What's new

India [245/3] beat New Zealand [243] by 7 wickets in the third ODI, lead series 3-0

Now lets see what stuff our middle order is made up of.

As I said earlier, he should skip the IPL but he won't.

He isnt playing any cricket after this game for the next one month...

Well needed rest after having arguably the best season by an Indian cricketer ever...

Kohli was baby-sitting Rayadu. But now he is on his own Lets see if he can survive till the end and take the match 'deep' till 50 th over like his mentor MSD

30-40 runs and this could have interesting.

India should cruise this.

Our bowling does lack penetration on flat wickets, should consider giving Bennett a chance for the remaining ODIs.

If we could have gotten breakthroughs early, we could have really tested that middle order.

Probably a good thing it didn't happen for the WC.

I think it is in the best interests of NZ that the flaws are being exposed much before the world cup. NZ should be in a good shape by then. I expect Kane to ring in some improvements to this team.

Whats new in that? Everyone can see that besides our clueless think tank.

He's beyond garbage. If he can't even score off bracewell , he should play domestic only. Hopefully they gill a go and he fires in the next two matches .

It is also good that you guys are losing this JAMODI series no one cares about. Some liabilities are now firmly a part of the Indian XI which the other teams can exploit during world cup ;-)

Yeah! Why doesn’t Rayudu just roll over and die! Average of 50, SR of 80+. Pathetic /Sarcasm

Even with those liabilities, India has beaten Australia, Pakistan, SA, NZ, etc. So I'm not sure which teams will be able to exploit it.

Yep, this series has ruled Munro and CdG out of the WC squad.

Need to have a look at a few batsmen and bowlers before the WC, but those shouldn't be on the plane to England.

India have exposed our weaknesses while we've helped to cover theirs, we've done all the other teams a service for the WC :))

Absolutely. If there's one good spell from Amir/Boult/Starc/Rabada, the respective teams stand a great chance of knocking India out cheaply.

India needs guys who can score quickly at the death. Karthik despite his inconsistency can do that. Rayudu is mirror image of Dhoni. KKD is a better fielder too. He can keep too if needed. Ideally don't want both. Between the two KKD probably is a slightly better choice. Only slightly.

Another day, another phainta. If NZ was in Asia, Bangladesh would still be the second best Asian side. :cobra

Got to give India props, they've completely outplayed us in all facets.

Hopefully the team learns from these defeats and has a game plan for when they meet India again in the WC.

Best to not implement those plans but to study tape and identify weaknesses which can be targeted in the world cup.

Don't want to be giving the Indians the time to correct those issues.

Rayudu plays out a maiden over, except for that wide.

Good one! Had India lost this series, it'd have been very meaningful.

Let's be honest. All the teams including India are looking up to the ongoing series as preparation and fine tuning to the world cup. Not taking anything away from India, but it's the truth.

Yes, credit where it's due. India appear to be in good shape leading up to world cup. But the team that peaks at the right time wins tournaments.

Karthik has wide range of shots. No real weaknesses except concentration lapse. Rayudu on the other hand has lot of weaknesses.

India can only be knocked out by Eng or Aus. Pakistan has no chance. Our domination over Pakistan in WCs set to continue.

Yeah, may have peaked too early with everything going their way. Law of averages will eventually catch up with them, for India's sake they better hope it's not in a WC KO match.

What strength does Rayudu has except for making delicious biryani which Dhoni has a weakness for?

This guy's only strength to keep his wicket intact lol Rayudu has been around since early 2000s. Not even in the wildest dream i expected this guy to be in the starting line up in a world cup. That is about 15 years lol.

It happened in both 2015 WC and 2017 CT. They got the knockout punch when they came against maveric fast bowlers in Johnson and Amir just when everything looked set.

Don't know what does Kohli see in him which nobody else can. He has been suspended from bowling, he is a pathetic fielder and a below average bat!

I think India, Eng, and Aus are confirmed for semis. 4th spot will go to one of PAK/RSA/NZ/BD in that order.

Well, I share the same sentiment as many posters here, but the management must see something in Rayudu that we don't. We'll find out in WC if it ever comes to that.

If he has one thing going for him, it's that he's relatively consistent, albeit at a slow RR for a middle order batter.

yes He can protect his wicket much like his guru Dhoni lol

I am not supporting Rayudu. He should not be in team but his performance is better than almost anyone except the top 6-7 in the world today. You can check your sources.

Only one player has ever crossed average of 40 and Sr of 100. And that’s ABDV, who is retired. And so are Viv richards, Tendulkar, Ponting, Sehwag though none of them meet criteria of 40 average and 100 SR. Not even Kohli, Rohit, Babar, Kane and Shikhar.

You can keep dreaming about unicorn. There’s no one with average of 40+ and SR of 100+ today. India needs either Rayudu or Dhoni in team for middle order stability.

Only the top four teams will qualify for the knock out stage in this world cup. If teams qualify according to their ICC rankings they the teams to qualify for knock out will be England, India, South Africa and India. So neither Johnson nor Amir will get to bowl to India in knockout stage. :srini

I tip my hat to Rayudu, the gum chewing Viv Richards from Hyderabad.

The whole of Indian cricketing fandom is willing for him to fail and he wouldn't put a foot wrong. Doing just enough to keep his place.

Rayudu batting is riling up indians.
actually No! It’s a few Indians on PP who are just having fun! He provides stability to the middle order that was very fragile till 6 months back.

Indians are spoolt by the exploits of VIrat and Rohit.

Only thing that can beat India is that powerful England batting lineup: Hales, Bairstow, Morgan, Root, Butler, Stokes, Ali, etc.

I would take Karthik over him. Better fielder. Backup keeper. Can accelerate much better. Far better range of shots.

When one looks at the statistics of Rayudu, they are not only better than most batsmen in the world. even in this series, he has scored more runs than many illustrious batsmen participating in this series.

Rayudu may look ordinary, but he keeps scoring runs. May be he is as underestimated in batting as Jadhav is in bowling.

++

It’s just that Rayudu does not look good as Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan or Babar while making runs! And of course everyone wants him to be replaced with someone who can score at average of 60 like Kohli with SR of 150 like .....No one ever.

I reluctantly agree with this. Lesser of 2 evils..A WK to boot, in case grandpa gets injured at an inopportune time.

I don't think India will need to qualify twice to make the semi-finals.

Congrats India!! That's a demolition. Huge gulf between No.2 and No.3.

Looks like Bracewell is a better bat than a bowler...

Good to see after a fluke win in the first match, NZ have comeback strongly in the next two matches and dismissed our top3 out without a century.

Such a pathetic and boring series so far, feels like we're playing Zimbabwe. Even the Aussies without their two best players gave us a close match but this was a joke. Makes sense why Aman was supporting Pakistan.

Good for India to tip back the scales and sending Kohli back for the next two matches. Should atleast be 4-5 wickets victory instead of 7.

Most wins after 63 ODIs as captain:
50 C Lloyd/ R Ponting
47 V Kohli
46 V Richards/ H Cronje
41 M Clarke

NZ coach Hesson said before this series started that there isn't much to choose between these 2 teams and NZ will edge this series 3-2...

We will need any 2 of Dhoni, Rayudu and DK in any match till WC for middle order stability and then start rebuilding team after that.

Consider these three are not so young, it’s good to have all of them ready in case someone is injured.
