What's new

India [303/6] beat South Africa [179] by 124 runs in the 3rd ODI to take 3-0 series lead

Some one needs to go big here otherwise we can't even get close to 300. Most important aspect will be seeing how batsmen play wrist spinners.

Markram looks good in ODIs too. SA have a 15 year career player on their hands.

Amla averaging just 40 with a SR 88 since WC2015.

Looking worse and worse for him

These two looking comfortable against the pacers, lets see how they fare against the spinners.

I think Dhoni is the least chirpy of all wicket keepers. They have to appoint someone at slip to dish out the banter.

Good partnership. Double it without loosing wicket now.

Opps, need to not lose wickets in clumps here otherwise match will be lost in the next 10 overs.

Another noob gone. These wrist spinners are deadly dangerous even on this less than helpful wicket.

SA needs to play these two wrist spinners otherwise each game will be a repeat of previous game.

Not sure why people are expecting anything from SA when 75 % of their batting is gone. This is light work for India.

Rotate strike a bit here. You can't simply play off two spinners when chasing 300+

Bahut kharaab dhoop hai waha sai. Bahar wala nahi dalay gaa? Is that Dhoni? Doesn't sound like him.

Will this match mirror what happened in the ladies game earlier today between India and SA?

India scored 302 and dismissed SA for 124! The SA womens team was also 89/4.

Here, India scored 303 and SA is 95/4

Problem is survival itself has become a big question against these two. I bet my bottom dollar they would have played well with ease if they were Jadeja and Ashwin.

And people were crying about jinxes and what not when everyone said that this would be a 6-0 series

Are their Fafs, ABDVs, Steyns and DeKocks also "injured"? :srt

Dead blocks will ensure that you won't get out, but it's 50 overs game.

India made a mistake by not playing k. Yadav in tests. He would've ran through through the southafrican lineup.

These guys are bamboozling these Saffer team. It is a good experience for these guys .

Batsmen are playing poorly here to be honest. Spinners are bowling well, but there isn't much turn here. Batsmen are simply allowing bowlers to bowl at good spots.

Nah, there is no urgency to score runs in the test format. Pitch is barely turning.

SA as poor as ever when playing spin. I guess its the wrist spin with googly that is causing them trouble. In our last tour, SA batsmen played offspin and SLA of Jaddu pretty well.

There is sufficient turn, enough to beat the batsmen. You'll never get square turners in SA or Aus. They just don't know which way it'll turn with Kuldeep!

It is pure inability to pick the spin from the hand. This is not even a turner. Just a true wicket

I'm loving yadav's bowling. Leg spin is such a wonderful art. One can almost feel the amount of revs he's putting on the ball just by listening to his grunt.

That's the issue here. Not able to read which way it will go.

6 overs 10 runs when chasing 300+ is simply leaving it too much to score on other bowler's overs.

The zondo guy seems to have watched too much test cricket or MSD's batting in recent times, some one needs to remind him its still an ODI and they are chasing 300+.

Zondo was not even trying to score of Kuldeep. Just aiming to survive....this is a chase of 300!

What is the point if one side is not even looking to make it a contest.

Kohli at least making a game of it by bringing the seamers on! Giving the batsmen some respite.

Pandya is also going at 4 runs per over. That's 30 overs. Start hitting...

Zondo will be replaced by AB in next match. SA will still be weak without Faf and Qdk.

At the moment this is on course to be one of those odd games where a team just bats out the 50 overs without getting close to the target.

Normally, a team will boom or bust in pursuit, but South Africa look happy to plod along without going anywhere.

I meant he is better than most of Pakistani batsmen. In earlier days Dhoni was one of the best batsman in Indian team where teams hardly score even 280

Oh, fair enough then. But that still shows how poor pak batting is rather than how good dhoni is.

very rare to see 3 main batsmen including the captain getting injured at the same time. no idea why they played them in the 3rd test which was a dead rubber... SA bench strength wasn't this bad but it looks garbage....something very wrong with this SA side....haven't seen india dominate in SA as such even when dhoni was their captain..

Epic phainty again. India can declare and still win matches if they continue playing against wrist spinners like this. Obviously playing Tahir is not enough for them i suppose. These guys are different

India has all season bowlers for the first time. They are wreaking havoc

We never had wrist spinners of this quality before that's why. But our batting is weak, it's top 3 or bust.

I think SA used up all their energy in the test series. Playing on life threatening pitches must not be easy.

What was there to exhaust lol they got shot out under 200 3 times out of 6 times. Team selection, lack of practice, fielding is what let India down. It would have been a much more close encounter otherwise.

It is because of Kohli's wedding that India lost first 2 tests. Way too much partying without any practice games!

Kohli played a match winning knock . Chahal and Kuldeep are becoming vital for India. This is the worst era of spin and they are taking advantage of this. Bowling in the middle overs and being encouraged to attack. Big fan of Chahal.

Don't believe in excuses. SA won in deadly conditions. Sacrificed half their side to defeat India.

Again India played the same test series they were in a position to win even the first 2 tests. SA didn't anything extraordinary compared to what India did. India did not even have time to recover from jet lag when they played first test. Those are not excuses. Those are the reasons why SA had an edge in test series. They were not really that good in Tests either despite doctoring pitches.

More than the bowlers it is very poor display of batting... credit goes to the spinners for taking wickets, but these players are simply throwing the bat for a volley or anything overpitched....they always try to hit a flighted ball for a six..

these wrist spinners are just flighting the ball and bagging bucket load of wickets...Saffers playing spin like a minnow team, doesn't look like a top team at all... zero fight in home soil, very poor indeed...

Picking finger spinners is way easier than picking accurate leggies. That is their ultimate weakness. A reason why Warne has mind blowing record in these parts but poor record in India

It is quite obvious to any neutral watcher that South Africa don't care about this ODI series. They wanted to win the tests and thrashed India in the first two games. Then they took their foot of the gas and in the third test were unlucky to bat last on a treacherous wicket. They could have easily declared their innings on such a dangerous wicket as they have anyways won the series, but they knew Indians would start crying like they always do.

Clearly those injuries were a factor here as well, and only 2 of their first 11 players were chosen today. This is a hollow victory if there ever was one.

VIRAT KOHLI continued his domination of the Standard Bank Proteas bowling attack while the Indian wrist spinners continued their mastery over the home batsmen to give India an inevitable 124-run victory in the third Momentum ODI at PPC Newlands on Wednesday.

The result gives India an invincible 3-0 lead in the six-match series, leaving the Proteas with the unenviable task of winning all three the remaining matches, starting with the PinkDrive ODI at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, to square the series.

Kohli made his second century of the series – an unbeaten 160 (159 balls, 12 fours and 2 sixes) – to set up the Indian total of 303/6 and now has an aggregate and average for the series of 318 and a strike rate in the high 90s. It is difficult to imagine what he can do to improve on those statistics!

A share of the praise must, however, go to opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who also hit 12 fours on his way to 76 off 63 balls to be slightly the more dominant partner in a second wicket stand of 140.

Thereafter, however, it was entirely the Kohli show as he scored 101 out of the 162 runs that India scored following Dhawan’s departure. In a remarkable statistic Dhawan and Kohli hit 24 fours and 2 sixes between them while the entire Indian innings consisted of 25 fours and 3 sixes.

The Proteas briefly got into the match on two occasions, the first when Kagiso Rabada dismissed Rohit Sharma with the final ball of his first over, giving new cap Heinrich Klaasen his first catch dismissal off his sixth ball behind the stumps.

Rabada, who had an excellent new ball spell, really raised the mood of the Proteas when he had a successful leg before wicket appeal against Kohli in his second over. The Indian captain, who had yet to score with only 4 runs on the board, then had a reprieve when the decision was reversed on review.

The Proteas second good period following the early loss of Hashim Amla at the start of their innings came when Aiden Markram and JP Duminy added 78 for the second wicket to put the two teams virtually level on comparative run rate after 15 overs.

But everything changed with the second ball of the 16th over when Kuldeep Yadav entered the attack and had Markram stumped when he deceived him in flight.

Although Duminy went on to reach a half-century (51 off 67 balls, 4 fours), Yadav and his spinning partner, Yuzvendra Chahal, entangled the Proteas batsmen, almost without exception in their web, and finished with four wickets each.

Yadav was particularly outstanding with his superb control of both length and flight regardless of which variation he was sending down.

The plain fact of the matter is that the pair have taken 21 wickets between them in just 52.2 overs in the series to date and for the second match in a row the Proteas were bowled out well inside their 50 overs with the final power play not taking place and the first thing the Proteas will have to work out is how to bat out their full complement of overs.

On the bowling front Rabada and Chris Morris were the pick of the attack with Duminy completing a good all-round performance by taking 2 wickets and bowling his full 10 overs.
