India 39/1 at end of Day 4 as they chase 420 to win the 1st Test against England

Ashwin is a legend! Gets a big wicket. Good that Pope has come to bat. Hopefully, he tuk-tuks.
 
No Butler, Pope walks in. This is puzzling from England camp.
 
England lead by 312 runs / 6 wickets in hand / 138 overs left...

This is slowly turning towards a nailbiter...

England are losing wickets fast and India can still win this. Somebody will have to stay in with Root. I don’t trust any other Englishman to makes runs against Ashwin.

I thing England will win this. Draw may be a small chance
 
England will be happy it's starting to turn (atleast with new ball).

If it keeps turning with old ball.... They will be thrilled.

There is one end where turn is less but wickets are easier to get.

There is another end turn is more but wickets are harder to get cos it's so slow.

India will have to pick up 6 more wickets and then chase this huge total. India has a slim chance of doing it. Eng should keep scoring quickly rather than thinking about the possibility of losing the test here and bat slow.

Yeah, far cry from Saha.

I think this chapter should be closed forever. For all his faults, Pant has done something while batting which Saha can't even dream about.
 
I think we will get a target of 400-410 in 110 overs to chase.

Yeah, we can't win this test now. Best we can do now is to draw it which we should do, with Pujara & Kohli playing a leading role.
 
Out of reach for India with a out of form Kohli and bad top order. A draw is the best we can hope for now.

England need to aim for 400-450 and leave close to 4 sessions in order to get 10 wickets. India will go for the win, I think this will be close

We've bowled a total of 24 no-balls in this test, while England has bowled only 1 so far.
 
India needs to find a plan to silence Root just like how they did for Smith in Aus series.

Sachin and Yuvraj have the highest chase of 387 here.

That was an aberration though. The actual record here is:

England should give their bowler 120 over to get out india otherwise they regret their decision just like last india tour ( 1st test they should have won but they decleard too late ) .120 over target around 380 .

England have a lot of runs now but given west indues chased down almost 400 and SA on course for 370 they are looking to get 50 more somehow.
 
Come on England slowing down abit now. Smash a few and declare about 10 overs in to third session.

Washington should bat at 5 instead of rahane .he is better batsman .
 
England have another 7 overs to smash around 40-50. Much depends on Buttler, doubt Root declares before the lead is above 400.
 
England should bat normally and score 70-80 runs in these 17 overs. They can smash a few in the final 4-5 overs.

India won't chase 430-440 in 110 overs. That is way too much. We will lose this test.
 
England will declare after completely eliminating a possibility of Indian win.

Game should end in a draw. Time for Indian top order to improve their averages.
 
Engalnd might declare when the required run rate is above the psychological 4 RPO (just my opinion)
 
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2021.
 
Nadeem has flopped both with the bowl and bat. Highly unlikely to get another game in my opnion

Harsh on two very good batsmen. Pope looks a lot like Bell who got twenty centuries and 7700 test runs. Labuschagne has stiffened up the Aussie to order.

Before first test Kohli already said in prese meet, they are going to give him a long rope.
He will play all matches in this series irrespective of the result.
 
Pathetic gamesmanship by Kohli to slow down the overrate here. Only bowled 25 overs in the afternoon session, and now taken 25 minutes to bowl 4 overs.

England going nowhere with this scratching around though.
