India 39/1 at end of Day 4 as they chase 420 to win the 1st Test against England

Buddy if it was Pakistan, we would have dominated and smashed them at home and given them a nightmare at their own home as well. You cannot come close to the level of domination that Pakistan team has over England.

Yeah, we saw what he did in 1st test in England. But today, he literally batted shockingly.

Not sure maybe Virat would have told him from behind, "We are considering you as lower order bat for Royal Challengers Bangalore. We need a big hitters at 5-6 anyways". :yk

Yeah England are so scared that is why they are batting at a run rate of 4. Some fans said the same thing during England's first inning also. England is making sure that there will be only 2 results possible in this match. It is India who will be confused whether to go for the target or play for a draw. :inti

Is the pitch so much of a minefield now that England are sure India have absolutely no chance to bat out 100 overs here ?

They should go for attack. Especially stroke makers like Sharma and Pant. It's pointless for them to block and get out.

Leave blocking to Pujara as they did vs Australia.

This, i don't know if people don't understand the match situation and conditions or its just Indian fans trying to make themselves feel better but tactics seem pretty clear from Root at the moment and this is what England always usually do, bat themselves to safety first then go for the win, they can easily bowl india out in 70 overs on a 5th day pitch.

England just wasting time here. Declare and use time to get wickets

Lead is over 400 they dont need to bat on anymore.

Last man Anderson in....should just play out the remaining overs today and start fresh tomorrow. :))

India chased 328 in almost 95 overs in Brisbane. Not sure how will they chase 420 in 100 overs.

What a shoddy end to England innings, lol. They themselves are looking down and out.

Gavaskar in commentary by seeing Anderson padded up

"Seems they have contract to bat twice in a test match" crazy I say.

Alright, a high-class, thrilling, exciting game and series has just ended.

Time to switch over to this mediocrity.
Series of two lower rank team with pathetic performance just ended .its was just like andho m kana raja won

I am looking forward to Rahane batting .. he literally looked like as if he was standing on a hot pan .. nervous all around during his stay

England has helped us out a lot...

I can't believe they have been this generous...

To be fair, it's still a tough challenge for india.. M

All 3 results are possible in Shastri era :ravi

Who is a worse captain?

Kohli or root..

They seem to try to outdo each other..

By the way, can anyone explain Kohli tactics this innings?

I am flabbergasted lol

How many over left ??
Only 2 results possible , either England win or draw . England win chance is 75% ,draw 25%

Its giving yourself enough time on this pitch...

Expecting to bowl out a team in 70 overs is a very very defensive draw first approach...

This is a golden opportunity for eng to win and there's a reason why all experienced posters are calling Eng out.

They could have basically hit out and gotten to 420, atrocious tactic from England. They don't deserve to win, I am sorry.

They are both avg. India can draw this match but if they want to win top 4 need to click. Rohit needs atleast 50 plus. Other wise he should be dropped.

Dude is clearly unfit and shouldnt be playing. Dudes what 36 now? With that gut he will play maybe one more year.

Ashwin needs 14 wickets in 4 matches to become the 2nd quickest to 400.

he may get them in next two.

I want Rohit to succeed but deep down I am unsure.

Eng still in with a great chance to win.

Had India been made to play 20-25 overs today and been 3 down or 4 down.. We would be staring down the barrel.

Yea declaration was 10-15 overs too late in my opinion. Classix england never go for the jugular, kinda soft.

I think india has a pretty good chance to draw. Winning is a long shot, but its possible.

The logic of blocking in the last one hour was beyond anyone's understanding. Why not hit out and get to 440-450?

Absurd!

A true gift really.

Just shows the mindset.

Playing not to lose than to win.

Yes eng might still win but the mindset sucks.

I am sorry.

Didn't Ab Fan said England should give a target of 420? That's what they did. :inti

We gotta first not lose any wicket today. Max 1.

Then start Tom strongly... Same like gabba and then see from there.

Need a blinder to pull this off.

Yes runs can be scored faster than gabba but wickets can fall too so it's a double edged sword.

Looks like you also think that we can win :yk
I am on the same boat.

They actually have 106 overs to bowl India out which is more than enough if they have any capability. India only played 95.5 overs in their first inning. They have done the right thing by securing their position in this match first where they were expected to be rolled out by the same fans who are calling Eng out lol. :inti

At tea, England were 360 runs ahead. I recall myself saying, England would look to add 70-80 runs. They added only 60 and got bowled out.

He is 33 and scored a double century in the last series at home in 2019. And his fitness is fine for a batsman.
But I would like Mayank to be given more chances as our opener as he is our future.

If they tried their level best and got here, they would then it's fine.

But they were dead batting last hour lol when they cud have easily gone for it.

Imagine making India face 10 more torture overs today... Could seal the game...

If India get away today unscathed... Chances are we can draw it.

This is one of those times when even a wrong decision can get the right result.

But if it goes wrong, you England will regret this approach whole series.

We can chase if openers provide solid partnership at least 150.

This is a golden chance to Rohit, he got the same opportunity in Gabba.
Hope Gill will repeat his Gabba heroic performance.
Kohli and Rahne has to score.

Wrong buddy.

India will always think there's a chance with any target below 450 post gabba.

Its the opposition that has to utilize this to their advantage and roll them out.

Your strategy can't be dictated by what others feel they can do.

When taht happens, you you are reactive and prone to get bluffed

Im looking at their batting on paper and its posdible, declaration was late because these fools were blocking and wasting overs while not scoring runs. Eng is soft.

If ind dont lose wicket tn eng players heads will be down, also i eng spinners are bang average.

Also i dont see gill throwing his wicket away this time, dude is in great form. Rohit just needs to stick around tn.
Its a tough chase but possible.

How many times have india batted 106 overs in the 4th innings of a test match? Its not experienced posters its India fans hoping the declaration came earlier so they had a lower score to chase or more time to chase. England fans seem very comfortable with their position at the moment.

England plan a lot on analysis and numbers, theres a reason behind thir tactics whether you agree or not.

They rely too much on it, anything can happen in cricket, especially when your spinners are bang average.

Im not even an indian, im just a fan of good cricket.

England looked nervous in the dugout idk what match you are watching. They are not comfortable at all. They tried to squeeze every single run while also wasting overs.
