India [502/7d, 323/4d] defeat South Africa [431, 191] by 203 runs to win 1st Test

yep clearly. I agree with ram shekar babu. completely. phattu team. ball is turning and still can't get anyone out. useless team. little fight back and india is found wanting.

Toss matters in subcontinent so much. Had india lost the toss india would have been languishing around 200/5 as well. India should revoke all their wins vs australia when they toured. 2 matches were won just because they won the toss.

England won the toss 4 times when india toured but on seam track batting second becomes easier and pitch doesn't deteriorate. In fact it turns into a flat patta yet india couldn't overcome the mighty Brits. That one match which india won was a fluke. It was actually a turning pitch because England felt sorry for india since they were already 2 nil down. Had to make the series a little competitive in order to increase TRP.

He was ourbowled by other spinners in the same games. He could not even utilize dry conditions laid out for him.

yes he was. He isn't good enough to play in englsnd or anywhere else. he is trash. He is only good in Indian pitches. What a dud fodder. India csnt even produce quality spinners that can excel anywhere else except Asia.

De Kock and Elgar are turning it on! What a sight. One more white team exposing fraud spinners here. I foresee this series turning on its head at this moment!

absolutely de cock is a decent player. Dean acruslly is underrated in fact. no surprise here that he is fighting back. s.africa will bring back ngidi for the next game who will be a threat to the overrated Indians.

Exactly. I hope they can expose the techniques of our fraud batsmen

Day 3: 2nd Session - South Africa trail by 271 runs

South Africa should look to bat until team tomorrow and give us a lead of around 70-100 runs. I'm sure we will crumble under pressure (surprise!) after that!

Except Pujara and to an extent Rahane, most of our line up is fraudulent and has **** poor techniques. There are no good replacements as far as I can see. Most of the players want to make hay while IPL is still happening. Indian team gets away most times as we play at home on tailormade dust bowls or when opposition is not able to field good players (Warner and Smith) - you know what I'm talking about. Even poor teams thrash the men in blue like there's no tomorrow (England and South Africa). And this is supposedly our best ever team. Shows how poor we have been throughout our history and how poor we continue to be. On top of everything we have pretenders who can't score a single run under pressure but make tall claims about building a legacy. All in all, I follow this circus to entertain myself. :inti
So we are fielding the better batsmens we have and hoping them to perform. There is nothing wrong in that.In fact pujara technique is not that good if ball start to swing, he kept on getting bowled.
The so called tailor made pitches is what all the teams around the world are employing.Every team in the world is weak outside of their home, so they are making sure to win the matches at home grounds by preparing the pitches to their strength. In india you can't make a pitch that swings or bounces for 5 days.
Indian team is weak outside Asia, that's the only point you are making is true but remaining what you talk is absolute trash.

This match reminds me of how Cook, Prior, and KP turned the entire momentum in an innings in 2012 series. Wish Elgar can do something monumental for South Africa! The last thing cricket followers want is to see a one sided WTC final at Lord's. India doesn't deserve to be there!
That's funny. What make u say that india didn't deserve to be there in the final.u can't make the final by just winning the home games. If any team reaches the final they deserves it.
The competition just started this season and even before matches played u came to conclusion that India doesn't deserve it.Again trash..

Day 3: Tea Break - South Africa trail by 210 runs

2nd innings is the best time to bat on Indian wickets, after losing a session because of rain we are in early day 3 territory. Just need to be patient, match will accelerate towards a finish on final two days.

South African rugby team also currently playing. And South Africa womens cricket team were playing not so long ago (I think yesterday)

The decision to pick the better keeper over that rubbish pant has really worked out for us.

Good fight back SA. Thought they would lose 10-12 wickets today(Yes that's how low I rate them!!!

A question for anyone watching, is murali kartik the shittiest commentator there has ever been, he makes the stupidest remarks there can ever be made.

Have to also applaud the CAC folk, brilliant job renewing the fielding coach's contract over giving the job to jonty Rhodes, only 5-6 catches dropped this innings

No matter what crisis South Africa are going through, they always find a way in test cricket. A true test specialist team.

One more department where Indians are shining very well. Sanjay Manjrekar, Laxman Sivaramakishnnana, Arun Lala, and now Murali Karthik.

They are boring, he is cringeworthy. Yesterday i had the bad luck of switching on the cricket when he was commentating, it was just after kohli got out, Gavaskar i think just before i switched on said that muthuswamy will remember this day and will mention his first wicket to his grand children, kartik asked gavaskar how is someone like him (kartik) suppose to have grandchildren.

How many of these had 98 or more overs bowled because if these are in 90 overs then it is a sort of misrepresentation even if factually correct.

Incredible effort by South Africa especially Elgar and De Kock. But I don't think they are going to save this test if weather remains good. Pitch will deteriorate from tomorrow and India still has a big lead.

DEAN ELGAR and Quinton de Kock both scored their maiden Test centuries against India as the Standard Bank Proteas fought back impressively on the third day of the first Test match at Vizakhapatnam on Friday.

The fact that they both did it on the sub-continent represented an important turning point for this relatively inexperienced batting line-up as they head into an important summer that also includes a home Test series against England.

This performance, which saw the Proteas score at more than 3.5 to the over throughout the day’s play, is bound to rub off on all their team mates and to give them further confidence and momentum as the current series progresses.

In all, the Proteas scored 346 runs in the day’s play which crucially cut their first innings deficit against India to a more manageable 117 with two wickets still in hand.

The Proteas suffered the early loss of Temba Bavuma to a delivery from Ishant Sharma that jagged back off the surface and kept low before Elgar and Faf du Plessis put on 115 for the fifth wicket and then Elgar and De Kock added a South African record sixth wicket stand against India of 164, surpassing the previous record of Andrew Hall and Zander de Bruyn.

Elgar joined an elite club of Proteas who have scored more than 150 in a Test match in India before finishing on 160 (287 balls, 18 fours and 4 sixes) while De Kock continued his golden run of form on this tour with 111 (163 balls, 16 fours and 2 sixes). It was Elgar’s 12th century overall and De Kock’s 5th while Elgar has now made Test match centuries against seven different countries.

Du Plessis also made his highest Test score in India of 55 (103 balls, 8 fours and a six).

Nothing illustrated the new approach the Proteas showed today than the fact that both Elgar and De Kock struck sixes to reach their centuries. And, in this regard, the role of assistant batting coach, Amol Muzumdar, has clearly played a role.

Both India’s mainstream spinners, Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, conceded more than three runs to the over and, although they took seven of the eight wickets to fall between them – Ashwin took 5/128 for his 28th five-wicket haul – they had to bowl a lot of overs to do so.

The strong batting effort also meant that South Africa’s key bowler in the second half of the match, Keshav Maharaj, was granted a full day of rest after the 55 bowlers he sent down over the first two days.

Today’s centuries were the first that the Proteas have scored in a Test match in India since 2010 when Hashim Amla made a double century in the first Test and centuries in each innings in the second.

The Proteas are still significantly behind on the first innings, but they have sent a clear message of intent for the rest of the series and indeed for the future of the current era under Du Plessis and head coach Enoch Nkwe.

Weather forecast for final two days very grim.
What's wrong with Jadeja? He hasn't been the same since the WI test series, looked innocuous today.

According to experts like freelance_cricketer this South African team is mediocre. :inti

When there is no spin in offer, he turns into a darter. He does not have many variations. Good to save runs. Wickets will be hard to get. This is where you need Kuldeep.

It is bro. QDK has not played like this in a long time. He was a sitting duck against Indian attack even in SA.

When Rohit Sharma opens and scores a daddy hundred, you know the pitch is a highway.

South Africa surprised me. I thought they would get all out before 250.

They can now draw the Test.

excellent stuff from s.africa. s.frica will always remain a strong test team. Already said that before. This team would beat many top teams but india still favourites.

Hot and sunny in Vizag right now.

India should knock off the last two guys quickly. Morning session is going to be crucial.

Ashwin is still the best spinner in Asian conditions. Jadeja and Yasir are good, but they're no Ashwin.

SA have fought well , but India still well ahead in the game , with two days of cricket left

South African tail seems pretty capable.

Last pair added 30 runs already.

They now trail by only 76 runs.

The captain and bowlers need to stop asking saha, he is awful with the reviews.

Now comes rohit's real test, can he turn this into a big lead quickly and give the bowlers enough time to bowl the saffers out.

This is going to be a draw for sure. South Africa won't be complaining , after the way they started this off.

Boss , the pitch has started turning, SA would not last more than 60 overs in second innings

We thought the same when SAF were 38-3 that it's going to be an innings defeat for them. We know how that transpired.

This is still pretty much the same wicket as yesterday with no real wear and tear.

Not really, once the ball gets slightly older the turn is ver slow to get anyone who isn't trying to go after you out. These sort of grounds shouldn't be rewarded with games in future for serving up this rubbish.

Someone needs to tell pujara to score quicker, change your style a bit according to needs of the day. Attacking batsmen are expected to curb their tendencies on tough pitches, the opposite also needs to happen.

Are they playing for a draw ?

Pujara definitely is, its like he is playing for south africa rather than india. It was a similar innings from him against aussies in ranchi that cost us that game.

Rohit having a go at Pujara for his dopey running between the wickets. Some fruity language was also heard through the stump-mics. Amazing how Pujara comes across such a meek and submissive character even after playing so many test matches.

South Africa´s outstanding fightback has kind of shocked me to be honest. Never expected this from them. Seriously impressed. Kudos to them. The aim should now be to back it up with another good display of batting in the second innings too to draw the match. A collapse on day five can undo all the hard-work within a session of careless batting.
